Why do liberals glorify cuba? Their helthcare and quality of life sucks. Why do cubans jump on rafts risking their lives to make it to the US if Cuba is so great? Public Health care will bankrupt this country... thank you Obama "nobel peace priz winner".

If they are such a great nation then they shouldnt be dependant on one country. Fidel and Che planned their country on having zero interaction with the enemy (the us) so you argument is invalid.

Cuba beats the US for life expectancy and educational standards.
I think they'd do much better if the embargo was lifted.

I'm curious as to why 30000 Cubans attempted to poor into this hell hole (the United States) in the 1990's, when their own country is such a paradise?

...the penny drops.
America has the world reserve currency and as such it is incumbent upon America to continuously run a balance of trade deficit (that's not my opinion, it is an economic fact... if you don't believe me, you can look up the work of Dr Michael Hudson who has explained this in detail many, many times, or maybe you could read his book "Super Imperialism": http://www.amazon.com/Super-Imperialism-Origin-Fundamentals-Dominanc/dp/0745319890 ...or you could read it online: http://michael-hudson.com/books/superimperialism.pdf ).
Island economies, such as Cuba, are dependant upon exports for trade... but Cuba has been cut-off from 300m customers by America's communist-phobic reactionary foreign policy.
Again, think before you post.

How can I lay this out for you... Let's look at Cuba as a small business, let's say my business (the US) holds a large account with this business (Cuba). If this small business (Cuba) does something I don't like, (or any reason at all for that matter) I can always take my business elsewhere.
Is it my responsibility to prop up this small business, (Cuba) that may fail without my account? Not at all, I hold no responsibility towards this independent small business. Their future prosperity is their responsibility, and theirs alone. If they fail the burden is on them.
Hope this helps!
-
Would we handle a country that does have an effect on our economic interests the way we've handled Cuba?
No way
For the record I don't support the embargo but to say Cuba's prosperity is our responsibility it ludicrous. Their prosperity may depend on us, but it's in no way our responsibility.

Fidel Castro lauds Nobel prize for Obama
Reuters ^ | October 10, 2009 | Jeff Franks
Posted on Saturday, October 10, 2009 10:05:30 AM by myknowledge
HAVANA (Reuters) - Former Cuban leader Fidel Castro lauded the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to U.S. President Barack Obama, saying on Saturday it was "a positive measure" that was more a criticism of past U.S. policies than a recognition of Obama's accomplishments.
Castro said the prize made up for the blow Obama suffered last week when the International Olympic Committee awarded the 2016 Summer Games to Rio de Janeiro after Obama had flown to Copenhagen to pitch for Chicago, his adoptive hometown.
The Nobel Committee announced on Friday that Obama had won the peace price for his "extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples."
The decision prompted surprise in many quarters and anger from Obama's conservative foes in the United States.
But Castro, who has generally written positively about Obama, was pleased at the decision by the committee.
"I don't always share the positions of that institution but I'm obligated to recognize that in this instance it was, in my judgment, a positive measure," Castro wrote in a column published in state-run media.

Thats the problem, people don't take the time to see how the WHO comes to their conclusion, they just produce a list saying look, see I told you US healthcare sucks.

Alright jackass, there are so many variables involved in life expectancy and healthcare is only one of them. Americans are MUCH MORE wealthy then cubans and because of that we all have cars ( no exercise) and people eat in excess. The things we can afford here are not exactly good for us but we still do them anyways. Cuba doesnt have KFC and Mcdonalds. A very big reason why are life expectancy could be less is because of obesity and pure laziness. Cubans only eat just enough to fill themselves cause there poor.

...life expectancy doesn't lie.
Neither do crime stats; wealth disparities; bankruptcy rates; child mortality etc etc.
The figures on education levels don't lie either... you yourself are proof of this; a supposedly educated American who can't differentiate between facts and propaganda.
Check out the WHO and UN measures of which countries are best to live in.
You guys think I'm chronically anti-American... I'm not, I'm just a realist... I just don't get a chance to bitch about Ireland on here (most on here couldn't find Ireland on a map).

Of course people below par IQ will get left behind in a system like ours. We've got a lot of them, and they skew the statistics. So sad, anyone with a decent head on their shoulders can provide well for their family and live like a king.
The United States leads the world in everything, this thread is laughable. ;D
Instead of educating us "The Luke" maybe you should focus on educating your countrymen who are still pouring into this hell we call the United States.

Luke we've already has this debate with ur equally worthless clone TA. We ran down how the WHO generates its figures and what other 3rd world countries are magically ahead of the US. This was some months agao..maybe Ireland was embroiled in its latest civil war and u were bsuy. ::)

You guys don't "win" any debate... you just repeat your slogans and circle-jerk till you discourage everyone else.
Your capacity for self-delusion is simply astonishing... the UN are wrong; the WHO are wrong; your own bureau of statistics are wrong; immigrants and illegals are skewing the statistics (as if there aren't immigrants or illegals in any other country); Obama is a socialist (because he's trying to save capitalism?)... maybe it's time to stop repeating and start thinking.
If I say America is secretly run by a cabal of purple-coloured dinosaurs, that doesn't make it true.
Not if I say it... not if I say it a hundred times... not if other deluded fools agree with me... not if they repeat it a hundred times...
None of that... none of it constitutes "winning" a debate.

So, can I assume that this is your usual tactic of resorting to ad hominem attacks when you realise you've lost the argument?
The Luke
-
Luke..son ur done. U've been defeated again and ur still kicking. I don't need ad hominem attacks...u are wrong, we've proved u wrong time and again and u can't defend ur arguments. At this point ur flapping on the ground waiting for one of us to step on ur neck.
-
Luke..son ur done. U've been defeated again and ur still kicking. I don't need ad hominem attacks...
...then why resort to them ONLY when you can't make a counter argument?
u are wrong, we've proved u wrong time and again and u can't defend ur arguments. At this point ur flapping on the ground waiting for one of us to step on ur neck.
You haven't proved shit... you simply dismiss reality, so I suppose you are the one who can't defend your arguments.
The UN is wrong; the WHO is wrong; statistics are wrong; the statistics collected by your own government are wrong; I'm wrong because I'm Irish; every fact contrary to your prejudices is wrong... at what point does this type of thinking simply become outright delusional? Will there be a Church of Rush Limbaugh at some point?
By the way, if your only counter argument is simply repeating what you wish were true three times over... maybe you should try clicking your heels together too.
The Luke

I tried but ur still here..but u did a great job of outlining why ur wrong, thanks. What do u do for a living? U derail thread after thread with ridiculous arguments that we've already had. Keep trying.

Maybe I'm just willing to confront the dogmatic idiocy that scares off other posters.
These threads are characterised by my making a point, you parrots go apoplectic with your Pavlovian reactions, then I ask for an actual counter argument... after two pages of name calling (but no counter argument), you knee-jerk thinkers start to convince yourselves you have somehow "won" the argument.
No counter argument... no discussion.
The Luke

The great thing about the US, is the fact that we believe, or use to believe in personal responsibility. Of course some people won't get a decent education or healthcare when it's left up to them.
-
Go pat urself on the back and let all ur friends know...oh wait...well go pat urself on the back anyway.
-
What are your main points "The Luke"?
Are you saying the United States generally lags behind in all areas? ???
We went from you making the accusation that Cuban prosperity is a responsibility of the United States to umm...? What?
-
Yeah...see The Luke..generally ur ridiculous points make no sense..atleast when that asshat SAMSON makes a point, we can follow it, as stupid as it usually is.
-
We went from you making the accusation that Cuban prosperity is a responsibility of the United States to umm...? What?
Well, see, there's the problem.
This is a classic example of why you guys think you "win" these debates when you simply don't.
I never made the point you are attributing to me... you have misquoted me.
You fabricated the "responsibility" angle, now you are attacking ME for claiming that?
I made the point that Cuba is still beating the US in both health and education (according to the WHO and UN reports) despite their huge disadvantage of being under US embargo; effectively losing out on their biggest export partner. (A valid argument)
What you have done is:
-scanned over my post without reading it properly
-inferred a point that was never implied
-taken exception to an imagined slight against America
-paraphrased my quote tainted with your misconception (adding in the word "responsibility")
-dishonestly misquoting me
Now you are attacking me over a point that YOU made, but dishonestly attributed to me.
Would it be fair if I did the same to one of your posts?
The great thing about the US, is the fact that we believe, or use to believe in personal responsibility. Of course some people won't get a decent education or healthcare when it's left up to them.
...does this post mean you are accusing Americans of being irresponsible when they refuse to educate themselves about the healthcare debate?
Of course not, it's just a (mild) example how poor comprehension and deliberate/dishonest misquoting or paraphrasing derails proper discussion.
See your mistake?
The Luke

Luke ur melting son..we won.

Every single time we force u to post shit about how smart u are...we win. Its kinda funny Luke. RPF posted facts with which u could debate but u failed, again. Thats the problem with u Libs...they get so emotional that they explode or at the very least post drivel.
-
If you think you can win an argument by dishonestly misquoting someone... then:
Luke I'm melting son..you won.
...does that count as me "winning"?
You guys still don't get it do you? You "win" by proffering a reasoned counter argument. Not insisting you have won in spite of all the evidence.
I notice you guys really dislike being called on your underhanded tactics (deliberate misquoting)... maybe stick to basic name calling, it's a little more honest.

The WHO ranks the United States 37th and Cuba 39th. HERE IS A LINK TO THE REPORT:

I'm using the report YOU point to. Now explain your nonsense.
Second, post your proof about the educational system and the context. If your going by the UNICEF report, you're dead wrong. Going by another report? POST IT.

You aren't making a fair comparison... that's a measure of Cuba's public education system compared to America's entire schooling system (both public AND private).
Compare Cuba's (only) public system against America's PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM (even including colleges) and Cuba is actually streets ahead.
Many sources criticise the WHO report on this point as it doesn't take into account the poor standards of America's (non-science) private college system. Many colleges in the US give (Arts/Humanities) degrees once the tuition cheque clears, irrespective of academic ability. I know there are enough illiterate college grads in the NBA and NFL to validate this point.
If the American system was merit-based (like Cuba's) there wouldn't be so many Americans in college, nor so many colleges.
Also... American kids who drop out of public school to be "home-schooled" then drop out before sitting their SATs are included as being in school for all those truant years.
Also... American kids who are expelled from the public school system in the US are often "assumed" to have moved out of state, thereby allowing those states to meet mandated Federal enrollment standards. Even though the kids never attend.
Cuba's figures are just more honest than the US's... "No Child Left Behind" has encouraged widespread statistics manipulation in the US system. Sad, but true.
Take this manipulation into account.
That's why I wrote "education standards"... because I was referring to standards.
Let's not play the misquoting game again.
But, if you guys want to chalk up America being 37th in education; two spots ahead of Cuba and hoping to overtake Costa Rica next year, as a "win"... then don't let me stop you.
Ah, who am I kidding... you guys won't be able to read this far. "USA #1!"

Just too easy.
1. The WHO report refers to HEALTHCARE. The WHO does not rank education. Educate yourself Luke.
2. I did not make any comparison. You made a claim pointing to UN numbers. Now, when provided with those numbers your claiming they're statistically skewed. BUT YOU POINTED TO THOSE NUMBERS.
3. You never said, "education standards". Your EXACT quote: "I made the point that Cuba is still beating the US in both health and education (according to the WHO and UN reports)"
4. POST YOUR PROOF ABOUT EDUCATION STANDARDS.

The WHO's ranking system is a whole other discussion. The point is you made a bullshit claim, that you can't back up. You pointed to numbers and didn't even know what those numbers said.
That really helps your credibility. Keep going!! ::)

The WHO's ranking system is a whole other discussion. The point is you made a bullshit claim, that you can't back up. You pointed to numbers and didn't even know what those numbers said.
That really helps your credibility. Keep going!! ::)
The Luke has credibility? He's a retard who brags about a physics degree from some no name university that got him nothing but rejections from 2,000 jobs. He also spends his summers chasing Bigfoot across North America because he's convinced that he exists. Oh, and he claims to have a bigger back than a number of IFBB pro's at a height of 5'2.

My bad.

Haha. His credibility was shot years ago when he spent three straight months defending his concocted story that Squadfather's mom wrote him a letter about Squadfather being a manic depressive 13 year old. After that self-owning came to pass, he crawled off for a year or so until he found his nuts again. He's a lying shill.

The way I read it a "Commie" regime with few natural resources is 2 places behind supposedly one of the worlds great economic powerhouses. Yeah keep celebrating mediocrity.

Regarding point #1 ...oops, sorry about that. Meant to write UN, seem to have mis-typed.
Regarding point #2 ...perhaps an oops for you: This was my original point:
Cuba beats the US for life expectancy and educational standards.
I think they'd do much better if the embargo was lifted.
...it's the third or fourth post on page one of this thread, remember? That was the simple, reasonable post that triggered the wrath of GetBig's own self-appointed Team America.

...not disagreeing. Admitted I wrote WHO when I meant to write UN/Unicef.

Again, POST YOUR PROOF. Not claims that you feel like making. POST STUDIES. POST ABSTRACTS. POST STATISTICAL ANALYSIS. POST SOURCES.
POST YOUR PROOF.

We've got 2 issues here Luke. Cuban healthcare vs American healthcare. Cuban educational standards vs American educational standards. You cited UN numbers. You were wrong about the healthcare. (37 vs 39)
As to the educational standards, since you said UN numbers, I asked if you were referring to UNICEF numbers. If not, what numbers? POST YOUR PROOF.

..oops again.
Sorry, that misunderstanding is totally my fault. I went straight to the listing in the report you posted and didn't check the title page.
Very sorry about that, it's like 3am here... I'm still working on the computer and posting on GetBig.
Either way, I think my argument (which assumed it was Cuba 39th and the US 37th in education) can just as easily be applied to healthcare.
Just do a like for like comparison, Cuba's free universal socialised healthcare system versus America's free universal socialised healthcare system... oh, wait...
Anyway, you get the point.
I stand by my original statement... and I don't think you guys are "winning" if you manage to prove that the US is actually one or two places ahead. Considering the difference in wealth, I'd still consider Cuba to be doing better unless America was markedly ahead in both categories.
Apologies again, it's probably too late for me to be posting anyhow... I'll try to dig up the actual statistics I read about sometime tomorrow... too tired now, making mistakes.

Luke - give it up. You lost.

You have been proven totally wrong with the same facts you tried to use in your argument. You need to admit that you were wrong.
oops I meant to say you need to admit your a fucktard!
