Title: Russians praise, GOP mocks, Obama's peace prize
Post by: MB_722 on October 10, 2009, 12:00:37 PM
WASHINGTON — While Russia's president congratulated President Barack Obama for winning the Nobel Peace Prize, Republicans see the award as so outrageous that they're using it to raise campaign money.

Obama won the prize "for awesomeness," says the mocking GOP fundraising letter. Obama's honor shows "how meaningless a once honorable and respected award has become," says the letter, signed by Michael S. Steele, chairman of the Republican National Committee.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev had a different view. He said the award will encourage further U.S.-Russian cooperation.

"I hope this decision would serve as an additional incentive for our common work to form a new climate in world politics and promote initiatives which are fundamentally important for global security," Medvedev said in a letter to Obama.

Steele said Obama hasn't accomplished enough to deserve the prize. Numerous Democrats and independents have expressed similar views, although generally in less bombastic terms.

Asking for contributions to the RNC of $25 to $1,000, Steele wrote that "the Democrats and their international leftist allies want America made subservient to the agenda of global redistribution and control. And truly patriotic Americans like you and our Republican Party are the only thing standing in their way." What load of horse shit, republicans are just as guilty for globalization  ;)

Former Cuban leader Fidel Castro called the Nobel award a "positive step," although he said it was more a repudiation of former President George W. Bush than a recognition of anything concrete Obama has done.

South Africa's president, Jacob Zuma, cited a Zulu term — "Ubuntu," which refers to the importance of community" — in saying Obama's "leadership reflects the true spirit of Ubuntu because your approach celebrates our common humanity."

I agree, both parties need to go.  The GOP needs to be sent to the ash heap of history and are just as responsible for the mess we are in as the Dems.

Seriously, if Obama cured cancer - you can GUARAN-FVCKING-TEE that most of the republican talking heads (and many here on getbig) would be bitching about it.

"Obama ruined social security because people will live forever"
"Obama only cured it so he could chain smoke"

etc etc.

Face it, our President won the Nobel peace price and they're bitching.  Anything else he can do will pale in comparison to this major world accomplishment, and they're complaining.

The fact is that he didn't deserve it...and when the Russians praise anything we do..run screaming because they're getting something from it or beneifted over the US. This was nothing 240...nothing. Its a prize, it was based on 11 days work and as an attack by some lefty Euro's on Bush. Obama has failed this country.

He admitted that himself.  nobody here is saying he did.

Still, it's an honor for our nation.

That makes absolutly no sense, In one sentance you say it is unwarranted, and in the next claim it is a honor for America. An award is no longer an honor when everyone knows that it was undeserved.

Would you rather it be awarded undeserved to Barack Obama or pres Ahmedijahad of iran?

I think half the people here - given this choice - would choose iran's president to win it.

What exactly does that have to do with this, you don't want to argue the fact that the award becomes meaningless when awarded for no good reason,  but that repubs/convservatives/anyone who thinks this is a farce is only against it because Obama won it. At the point Arafat was awarded one, I knew that the prestige once attached to the Nobel Peace Prize was gone. It has now become a political statement and not awarded on the merrits of furthering man kind in some profound way. People that actually have accomplished something and could put the money and attention to good use to further the cause that got them the award in the first place. But no, now the nobel committee has to throw their hat into the political ring.

Instead of bitching about Obama winning the prize, why not bitch about the institution that awarded the honor in the first place?  Or would that actually make sense and thus rob you of your precious whine-fuel that you need to cry about Obama each and every day?

Last time I checked, Obama didn't award it to himself.  So why all the whining and gnashing of teeth directed towards him?

Thats why people said he should have given it back to some of the people who are far more deserving of it.  He could have saved face and made it into a win, instead, its now a worldwide joke.

Chavez is laughing, the former PM of austrailia is laughing, the terrorsts are laughing, previous winners are laughing.

Its a complete joke.

Maybe he should give the prize to teabaggers.  Then you won't whine so much.  Or maybe the RNC just enjoys acting like the Kayne West of the political scene.

It seems that since the Republicans spent over seven years claiming that all of their opponents were supporting the terrorists, turnabout may be fair play.  I didn't know so many of John Walker Lindh's cousins were Republicans.  Who would have thought it?

Personally I think he deserves the award for simply slamming the door in the face of that that snowbilly grifter and keeping her out of the White House.
