WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama pledged to end the ban on homosexuals serving openly in the military in a speech Saturday, but acknowledged to a cheering crowd that the policy changes he promised on the campaign trail are not coming as quickly as they expected.
"I will end 'don't ask-don't tell,'" Obama said at the annual dinner of the Human Rights Campaign, a gay civil rights advocacy group.
He did not give a timetable for the repeal of the law passed by Congress in 1993 and signed by President Bill Clinton, who also promised to repeal the ban on homosexuals in the military but was blunted by opposition in the military and Congress.

HH^ - how is this being received?

Gare says he doesn't care as much....from my view having delt with it, it won;'t go over so well. Its more then just one Joe dealing with another Joe. We have alot of very religious folks in the Service, especially the Officer Corps...who hate this. Say what u want but Blacks don't like gay people and we have alot of religious blacks in the Service. This coupled with the Heathcare bill crippled Clinton in his first term and we weren't at war. This will be seen as caving to a minority group. We don;'t need this shit.

It will great hearing from people who won;'t be affected by this at all...they see gays at pride rallies...if they know somebody thats gay..they don;t have to live as well as work with them.

doesn't bother me
besides, a true professional puts personal beliefs and prejudices aside and just soldiers on
-
Sorry I disagree..we don't have time for this shit now.

I really dont even understand why this is an issue in the first place. The military is not the place for personal expression. Gays should be allowed to fight and serve like everyone else and sexuality shouldn't even be an issue.
This whole fucking thing is just a publicity stunt/ fiasco for Obama to make himself look good in the eyes of the gay lobby and to appease rabid homo's like Rachel Maddow into forgetting that he doesn't support gay marriage.
