What are the opinions that weight lifting can cause anxiety attacks for people with underlying anxiety issues? That tearing the muscle down triggers a release of adrenalin which in turn leads to anxiety issues?

When I still did Judo I pushed my self hard with PL movements
With exercises like squats and bench were I was under the weight and going for singles or doubles if I was not agressive enough I would sometimes feel nervous.

Do you feel them come on at the gym? If so get on the treadmill, blast your ipod and run or get on a stairclimber until your too fucking tired to feel anxious.

I got panic attacks in the gym 2-3 times in my years of lifting. scary thing

I get The Bad Mood if I don't eat enough after a workout. Maybe it's just how low blood sugar affects you.

Agree I will get a bit anxious if I know I have to go in and push some heavy leg work, squats mostly. I don't go for singles but reps with relatively heavy weight, it's probally a combonation of fear of getting injured and knowing you have to push yourself deep into the pain zone. I usually do this on the weekend mornings when I have had a lot of coffee, adding to the effect. After getting the squats done the feeling subsides.

It's not always anxiety. Sometimes an arryhthmia can occur during workouts. Get it checked out...

The effects of adrenaline have worn off long before you have the anxiety attack.
Are you trying to 'feel' for signs of muscle trauma? It might be a a case of hypervigilance feeding your panic attacks. Try to ignore small bodily discomfort, as they're common after heavy exercise.

I use to get hem right after..... nothing worse than being on a scooter, having a full blown attack. ??? ::)
I just learned to take it out on guys faces and girls vaginas more, oh a and dropping the cocaine, paxel, and drinking seemed to help also ;D

you need to check your adrenals with a 4-point cortisol saliva test,anxiety is caused by weak adrenals and hypoglycemia is weak adrenals also,you can have hypoglycemia but still NOT show up in blood sugar tests,my brother is living this now,try to get a 3-4 days of saliva-testing 4 times a day done...frequent-does-chelation.yahoo.com

when you're compeltely whooped form a workout, waterlogged from loading creatine and 2 gal water a day, and sore in thighs, back and chest from the week's workouts...
i can't see having enough energy to do anything but vegg out and relax/heal.
I've been doing everything 100% right for 2 weeks now, and I can barely moved. Bloated, sore, and just plain beat.

I used to have them in the gym a long time ago. It was usually after very taxing sets. I was usually dry heaving in the bathroom and thinking, "oh please God make this go away and I'll never come back here again (the gym)". It was like the sky was falling down and my world was ending. But I always came back and it resolved itself eventually. A panic attack is nothing like the anxiety and nervousness felt before heavy workouts. That's nothing.

I know I posted about it a while ago. It's not really like creatine. It helps with endurance.
I wish I could get powdered potassium citrate. Supposedly much better than baking soda.

That's pseudo science IMHO. I mean what's "weak adrenals"? Things like hypoglycemia can trigger panic attacks but the etiology is more complex than something you can't define in scientific terms, like "weak adrenals".

Someone here said baking soda would work like creatine ...yes creatine works for sure baking soda is cheap as hell though

I never have it while I'm working out. Even thought I'm breathing heavy and heart flutters doing sprint or all out squats. Usually then I just close my eyes and continue and try to block it out.
Your adrenal glands can become exhausted from over training or stress. Not sure if that would result in panic attacks though, but maybe lethargy.
Sometimes just before a workout I feel damn in a few minutes I'm going to put my body through that!?

'Adrenal fatigue' is not a recognized 'disease' from what I've seen. No ways to test for it. Lots of quackery related to this term.

it happens if i work out by my self for too long (2-3 months). if i have a workout partner, or just someone to talk to while i workout i am alright. when i workout by myself i usually do a 45 minute workout in 20 minutes, i really stress the shit out of myself. i usually have to go home and walk through the woods for a few hours.

from lots of experimenting, if I bring my test levels up just a bit to more normal levels, I feel like a million bucks. But once I start training with weights seriously, I get this delayed effect of anxiety after I lift. Like some form of my body saying, "hey, we have torn muscles, emergency". I dont know how else to explain it. Or maybe its similar to an insulin drop but with adrenalin,...when I am lifting levels are high, and then later they bottom out and I get an anxiety effect. I really dont know.

I thought about it but Im not bringing them higher--why play with fire? I'm just sticking to the program of making them normal. And bringing them normal has only been positive in the past

Sounds good 8) I'm lucky the only time I deal with anxiety is when I'm stupid enough to take a fat burning or energy pill.then I need to go to the gym and work it off!

If something is torn, your mind would receive clear signal of this as it happens. What exercises do you do that makes you worry about torn muscles? Do you flat bench a lot and/or really heavy?

sorry I should be clearer---not torn in injured sense, I just mean torn as in normal wear and tear from training and then the muscle repairs and builds itself up.

nonsense, anxiety is caused by a lot of things, in Disturbia's case I think it's likely due to misinterpretation of normal stressors, or a hypervigilance/hypersensitivity to these normal stressors. Have you considered cognitive behavioral therapy? Re-appraisal of sensory information coupled with a improving your grip on the resulting cognitive processes: basically preventing your thoughts from spiralling into an anxiety attack.
I would seriously step away from self-administering test. With your history of depression and anxiety, your neuro-transmitters are likely out of balance. Test may be a temporary fix, but may do more harm then good.

regarding this. I have years of self cognitive and cognitive therapy with me. Also, when I do 200 mg test/week in the past, I had no anxiety, was level, no highs or lows and was in a decent mood. Fore years, as illustrated on here, with no test, I was a miserable, violent out of hand retard. I firmly beleive the test brings me to a more normal level. The anxiety issues only arise when I start lifting hard again. Maybe I just need to do cardio and only lift lightly a couple times a week.

Did you have CBT for anxiety? If so some basic principles should give you a handle on the anxiety from lifting. The other option is to lift lighter. Problem with the last option is that you're not treating the underlying issue, the next time you might get anxiety over something more mundane, something you will not be able to simply avoid.
