I am pretty sure this is one of the first episodes of the 6th season.  Cheryl is about to tell Larry how some people were adopting families that had lost their homes.  They would later adopt the Blacks.  If you haven't seen this season I don't want to spoil it for you, but some major changes happen in Larry's life. 

The 7th and current season is 6 episodes in and pretty good so far.  Pretttty...pretttty...pr etty good ;D

Larry and Cheryl split up, she satrts dating another man, and Larry hooks up with Loretta Black, whose already living with him thanks to Cheryl.

Agreed, I personally think having a year or two off making it, he's sort of taken Larry to a new level of gumption.  These episodes aren't so much awkward, as they are just way more sociopathic.
