good lord what a horrible tangle of disgusting muscle.
i didnt see a single competitor that had a pleasing physique...even from the women!
yuck.

That's what I think every time I watch a NABBA show.

On a side note - I see that Jason Corrick competed int he Masters competition - I remember him from when I used to live in Somerset (South West UK) and he trained at a gym called "The Pumping Station". He was the first bodybuilder I had seen in real life. That was in my very first year of training with weights - 1993 - how time flies eh, and this guy still competing all these years later. 8)

In regards to the Amateur overall winner, Martin Kasal, I'm not getting this. The guy has a tight waist, ripped to shreds and has good symmetry. And while this is less true of the professional winner, he is blockier but his physique is decent.
There were many impressive competitors who trained incredibly hard and traveled many miles to compete in this contest. Sweeping dismissive and mean comments like the one above does them all an injustice.
I would say that NABBA has a history of rejecting the over muscled, roid belly physiques that the IFBB has pushed forward for so many years in preference to more symmetrical bodies. Not

The amateur winner was very good. The above poster that said he is a horrible tangle of disgusting muscle must have been referring to someone else.
Great conditioning, shape and separation. Not huge like our pros but he looked very good in a more classical way.
-
No, I was including him.
his legs were almost skinny compared to his upper body. The still shots of him are quite average indeed.
far from "very good" thats for sure.
but then again i'd have this years 2nd place Mr.O in the "crap" category also...but thats me..i like BB's to be proportionate and balanced and pleasing on the eye.
thats what i thought BB was, but apparently it isnt.

why cant people just pose normal anymore? Guys that small cant do all the grandiose movements. It probably looks good in their bedroom mirror but up on stage they look ridiculous.
-
this contest hasn't mattered since 1985, and really since the early 70's as the mr olympia became more popular. before that this was the contest.

Boy, how time has changed from Arnold's '66 NABBA Universe...

How come most of the Euro top bodybuilders look as though they have bronze protan. Is the jantan just different over there?

bc they are stuck in the 70's

its funny that you mention that because this year i went to the bill grant classic in allentown pa and there was one foreign competitor and he had this same look the bronze statue look. he was a czech.

NAMBLA holds bb shows? ok, makes perfect sense, carry on.

Yeah disco, his legs kind of thin, I agree, but excellent separation.
I think guys with disportionally huge legs look weird...we've almost gone too far with emphasizing legs. If legs are too big, you can't do anything. The guys in the 70s and 80s were big but still somewhat athletic. Guys these days couldn't even play sports. If your legs rub together when you walk, how are you going to run or play sports?

well i agree but slightly different context. the upper body is now so grotesque (theres only 2 or 3 pro's that i think have a decent front double bi) that it means they need massive legs to look proportional.
the entire BB judging criteria is at fault. these guys have skinny legs as they are out of proportion to their upper bodies, which are writhing piles of steaming turd packed onto bone.
i wish the whole scene went back to awarding the most pleasing physique.
its some mish mash of mass and hardness now, with pleasing somewhere down the list of priorities.
sure, use size to separate if 2 guys are close, but dont place classic physiques as also rans because they arent behemoths.
perhaps guys like benfatto wouldve fared better if his legs were up slightly more- hard to think of someone who "looked" better, then there's Dex J...how can a fridge and a marshmellow be awarded higher placings than him?...
how dorian won over levrone all those times is beyond me, and so on...

I'm with you on that disco. The excessive drug use f'ed up the sport. The guys in the 80s and early 90s looked the best. This business with being so big in the offseason that you can't do anything then diet down to look good for 6 weeks is assinine.
No one should have gut distension, synthol or look like big blocks. That may be impressive for overall size but it's not what BBing was supposed to be.
I actually like how most of the national and international NABBA guys look. Big enough but a bit more classical. Not as massive as the NPC guys but most aren't on the same 'routines' either.

He totally jipped Dorian's entire routine, actually.
