speak on this.
-
don't know about this windows 7 thing, but a number of ladies have asked me to hang 8 out my pants window.
-
Had it for about a month, love it, anyone here using xp or vista should upgrade ASAP.

Can you elaborate?
-
i have heard good things, and can't wait to install it on my top of the line - most powerful laptop in existence the clevo m980nu 8)
unfortunately there is a fucking postal strike in the uk, and my microsoft upgrade disc hasn't arrived yet, nor is it likely to in the next few weeks if these strikes continue :(
-
Can you elaborate?
indeed
it took months after installing vista to get my computer to work the way i wanted,,, don't want to jeopardice that happening again
-
i get tired of all these new versions, i dont go with the hype.
-
I've had it for a week and if you've got Vista, it's worth the upgrade. I can see a noticeable difference in speed, reboot time, and just overall simplicity of certain tasks.
-
Windows 7 is better than Vista, but I'm still considering deploying it on my Network to about 1700 workstations, all the tests I ran through passed so far, so I think it's a go. any OS will behaves differently on a Network than on stand alone, So for anyone considering an upgrade from XP, Win 7 is a way to go.
-

Everyday I come home and iTunes asks if I want to Install Update? Install Update? Install Update? So I did it just to get it to shut up. Next day: Install Update? Pop selling girls.
-
Boycott that shit... same with hardware upgrades...
-
Windows 7 is the best windows yet very fast and simple i love it, vista is shit.
-
Can you elaborate?
So much smoother, never needs a reboot, the UI is just amazing, new taskbar where shortcuts integrate with running programs is a godsend, running cursor over icon in taskbar shows all open windows in that program, themes like a slideshow as your desktop, wiggling a window closes all other open windows to minimise, dragging a window to left or right side of the screen will cause the window to fill that half of the screen, new search feature that finds any file instantaneously, can tune it so you never get pestered by popups....ever,homegroup allows piss easy setup of network PC's,far less memory hungry than vista, x64 version runs 32 bit apps flawlessly while allowing you to use more than 4GB of memory, native support for touch screens, amazing support for streaming to you from home PC say to your ipod touch while out and about, media centre included is amazing considering its built in and from Microsoft, Windows explorer is great now....completely redesigned and tons more shit I'm probably forgetting.Basically its just so fucking smooth and easy to get things done, you'll wonder how you stuck with xp for so long.
Main thing it just works for 99.9% of people right off the bat, most drivers are included on the install disk so your up and running within 20 mins from formatting and doing a fresh install (no other way IMHO).

1700 workstations? Give 7 a year at least bro, let all the kinks get worked out. We're still running xp on all our workstations, never went with vista.
Although I'm running gentoo and ubuntu at home.

We have been testing it here at our datacenter and have not had any issues so far. we have around 2000 clients and most are running XP. We are supposed to go to Vista but shit I hope not. Vista sucks and we still have issues with it. But the suits make the final call... ::)

I never trust new OS', particularly from microsoft. It's like the final beta release is what they give the public and let them sort out the rest of the bugs.
-
My XP Pro never needs a reboot either. Hated Vista. Might try 7 if I get a new box. But to reinstall everything just to have the latest thing? Nah.

Truth, whats your setup right now?

There's no real way to work out the final bugs until you put an OS out into the wild. I usually wait until the first service pack update to do my upgrades, usually by then things are worked out fairly well.

I went to dinner with my parents and my dad said the same thing. I say a year, usually SP1 comes out about a year after the initial release. His company never switched to vista, he told me(he is the head of IT/CIO) and he said vista just plain sucked.

Thinkpad t400 with 8gb. I also got a vm instance of Windows 7 MediaCenter running on a Dell R710/VMWare ESX Server with 48GB 2.7TB.
I know it sounds like a getbig amplified answer but I've got a solid expense account at work to buy hardware for "research purposes".
The 64bit is strong.

HOW DID U GUYS GET SO GOOD WITH COMPUTERS???
I CANT EVEN FIGURE OUT HOW TO DO A SCREEN SHOT
-
I'm a pc and windows 7 was my idea.....

Vista will be forgotten very soon - the same happend to windows ME - remember that particular abomination?

Nice setup!Just picked up an acer laptop myself and put Win 7 on that too, nothing like reading getbig while taking a dump (no homo)
-
just went from windows server 2008 64 R2 to Win7 64 enterprise RTM , Cracked and genuine :)
-
I would stick with Windows for Workgroups v3.11 guys, very stable and runs everything you need for home and business such as notepad, paint and solitaire. I wouldn't trust Windows 95 at this point, it is still too early to commit.
;D
I tested Win7 and truthfully, I saw it as nothing but a working version of Vista.
Ctrl-alt-del does NOT bring up the task manager and that's a huge sticking point for me.
Just as Vista added a mouse-click here and a mouse-click there for formerly simple tasks in XP, Win7 does the same for basic desktop and file navigation.
XP was perfect and while Win7 is smooth, it just doesn't have the right 'feel' for me. I'm going to stick with XP indefinitely.
-
i got it, my bro installed it! :)
i can run messenger and firefox, so my review is thumbs up :)
pd, I know, im not a computer person, so my review shouldt count for too much :)

+1 on recommending upgrade. I installed it last week when I put in a new HDD and it works perfectly. So smooth and reliable.
It takes a bit longer to boot than XP (only a few secs difference) but it's much faster during use.

Have you tried linux? If not I would recommend dual booting.

I dual boot with ubuntu 8.10. the newer versions apparently don't support my laptops video drivers.
I prefer Win 7 but Ubuntu is crazy fast for boot-up.

Terrible choice of graphics card, get the 5850 for the same price and much faster, has dx11 support and can be flashed to 5870 speeds, which is the fastest retail single graphics card available. Also id go for I7 if you any kind of rendering or encoding and a 46inch monitor will look like dogshit, equivalent of using a 17in monitor at 640 by 480.

shut up =(
Sapphire Radeon HD 5850 1GB GDDR5
was about 40£ more
Im also gonna probably mostly surf and play games on my 20" wide
"Samsung 46" LCD-TV LE46B535"
thats the tv im thinking of buying. Im mostly gonna watch movies on it, hence why I dont want to go with the 42" which would make it easier to play games on.
I have more faith in nvidia then Radeon though
or maby try and sell the 20" monitor I have right now and buy a BenQ 24" LCD G2412HD , good reviews cheap but weird brand lol
-
and isn't nvidia a little bit more stable/easier while doing hdmi tv out etc
ASUS Radeon HD 5850 1GB GDDR5
Sapphire Radeon HD 5850 1GB GDDR5
I think asus is more stable?

ati cards blow nvidia out of the water for power and price. there is also a new range of graphics cardsout soon that are a big jump from current tech. 8)
ati cards also support 7.1 surround sound directly through the hdmi - while you have to edit setting on the nvidia cards everytime you want to use sound through hdmi :(

So for gaming and using hdmi thru tv etc is
XFX Radeon HD 5850 1GB GDDR5
an alot better choise then the MSI GeForce GTX 275 896MB PhysX CUDA ? =)
because if I switch them its still within my budget.

Get two cheap 1gb ddr5 cards and sli or crossfire them
-
most powerful card available at the moment is the ATI Radeon HD 5870 8)
however the 5850 is also an amazing card, and a little cheaper 8)
you should be happy with your purchase. it blows the gtx 275 out of the water.

Yes, and xfx or saphire etc doesnt matter, they all get the same boards and just put their own cooler on, so its down to which has better cooler and warranty really.Buy a 5850, flash it to 5870 speeds = profit.

that's true!! too bad it can't handle new hardware, it only reconizes 2gb RAM, suck if you want to play call of duty 4 with your 4gb RAM and only get performance from 2gb. An upgrade was nesccesary and vista was the only choice......

Just because I dont have a job doesn't mean Im not making money ;D
the computer and the tv will rack up to about 1650£
and I actually have that in cash right now.
so its back to making money again after that lol

King Alex, is that torrent legit? Today is my "Friday" and I plan on installing it if it's okay.. too lazy to check all the warez sites. They've gone really downhill since the late 90's and early 2000.
I'm ALMOST ready to pay for it but I dunno. Tried some of the betas and it was good. I think it's the first Microsoft OS I'm actually willing to pay for. If the torrent's not legit, I'll just buy it tonight online. Cheers!

even if it is legit, it won't be long before microsoft block it with their official download detector. like they did with xp and vista.

Yeah, their genuine advantage stuff... I'm sure that'll get on there, but like last time they offered a VERY generous grace period by which people would register.
Dammit, I think I'll just pay for it lol.. it's only $120 CAD for the upgrade to 7 Home Premium. I'm off work at 11pm so I'll install it later. Yeehoooo!!! Hope it works well with streaming media to my PS3 or I'll be pissed :D

That's the one thing I never bothered to crack, OS's. MS can be pretty crafty at sneaking in verification software.
When I get home and want to go on the computer, I want to go on the computer and use it. I don't want to have to spend hours sifting through infected torrents and usenets to find cracks. If I want cracks for software that's one thing, but I want my OS to work 100%.
That being said, I can't wait to get home and do this shiiiet. The beta was awesome. Gonna shit, hit the gym, go to work and hopefully get off work early mwahaha

You can push the i5's to 4ghz, the i7's can reach over 4.5 with extreme cooling.

I was thinking 3ghz might be fine with original cooling

tbh swede if you arnt video encoding/3d rendering, then any type of quad would be fine.Ive considered upgrading to an i7 for my 3yr old dual core but I cant justify it, still running at 3.5ghz and blazing through anything I throw at it.Even my after effects\sony vegas renders dont take anytime. Most of the benchmarks you see are people opening up single gigabyte images in photoshop or professional grade 3d studio renders and the like, something 99.99999% of people wont get anywhere near.Basically anything you buy with a quad on the label, 4gb of any ram and some graphics card that begins with ATI 48xx will last you for another 4 years at least.

ive been reading that the Intel Core™ i5 Quad Processor i5-75 is super clock friendly.
But maby skip clocking it to 3ghz for now then :)

Just saw a test crushed the more expensive hdmi cables vs the ALOT more cheaper. No real difference at all.
But then I remembered, some people get lag on their tv, that might be caused because of the cheap cables, and i should go for one thats little bit more expensive, because after all im gonna watch Alot of fullhd movies, and any type of lagging would drive me insane.
so Im thinking that this might be ok?
http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=322178 69£
vs this
http://www.clasohlson.se/Product/Product.aspx?id=53266216
for 24£
I just dont want any fucking lag lol

hmdi cables are digail. For short runs, like under 20 of so feet, there is no difference between the cheap ones the $$$ ones. Just make sure you get cables that can play 1080p, some old cables can't.

I still to this day remember then I bought the game "sims", with my hard earned money.. And when I got home and tried to install it, it look like 50min to install, and then before the 100% complete, it crashed because the computer was too slow.
Man I was devastated.
It kinda upsets me thinking back about it for some strange ass reason lol. :(

X2...Ive been using Windows 7 since the turn of 2008....i like it
