As of Monday November 2nd. All Doherty's Gyms, Brunswick, Dandenong and City will be open 24:7. Now you can train any time you like, weekdays, weekends, public holidays. WE ARE OPEN.
Unlike other so called 24:7 gyms, we are staffed all the time.
If you need a late night workout, a protein bar or shake, supplements or a cool t-shirt. We are open for you.

Pretty cool. Sometimes, when I can't sleep...I wouldn't mind being able to train "late night".
-
pics of said gyms?
-
been to tony's main gym it is impossible not to train hard there...
-
Sometimes, if Im not sleepy. I bust out the dumbells and barbells in my garage. IMO I wouldNt drive to gym at 2am. But that is just me.

quick question about Austrailia:
why are there so many Italians, Greeks and Homosexuals in Australia?
btw, i don't mean any disrespect in that question- just curious
-
Can I have a job at your gym Toney?

italians and greeks came over as refuges after WW2 and generally had many children whose children had many children. there are way more lebanese and vietnamese now though.
most of the country has few apparent gays because they all move to sydney which is very gay friendly. Lots of gays from ireland, united states and europe have moved there too.

The Italians and Greeks immigrated in very large numbers. Don't know why, guess it seemed like a good place. They are good people nontheless. As for fags, there isn't any more here than any other country. Funny coming from you who lives in a country where fags can marry.....

webcke's part of sydney ain't too gay friendly btw...
-
see, i thought the Greek/Italian migration had something to do with WWII
Australia seems VERY tolerant cuz I remember after the WWII, alot of places hated the WOPS cuz they took all the available jobs from the natives. For example, my dad want for work in Switzerland and.....um...i'm sorry i lost my train of thought cuz i'm watching pornography while i'm typing this

I don't think they had it too easy but generally the greeks/italians were pretty adaptable...
one example is in melbourne.... the greeks/italians fell in love with aussie rules football which is THE religion in melbourne forget jesus...
once they showed they liked the white australian's game then it helped with the assimilation process a great deal...

My Greek grandfather came out here to AUS in 1925 so it was after WW1 really. Other side is Lebanese and they came about the same time. I believe there are far more Greeks in Melb than Syd.
How gay is Sydney? Was driving down Oxford street (main street in city and major gay hangout/pickup) to work yesterday and there were two guys pashing each other right next to the road. No-one cared.
I jacked off it to it later (no homo)

tony,
how have/did you change the layout of the 2 gyms you took over? did they have classes before?
Good question.
Dandenong: I got rid of old equipment that did not get used, got rid of old cardio gear. There was only 4 old treadmills and 4 old bikes so it really lacked any mainstream or female appeal. We put in about 20 new treadmills, 6-8 x trainers, 6 bikes, 6 recumbents etc. IN the gym I have added about 6 hammer machines and updated most of the 1 inch weights with olympics weights and benches. Still a work in progress.
City: Got rid of all classes, destroyed aerobics room, pulled out old wooden floors and replaced with rubber floors. Threw out 100m2 of rubbish (5 X 20m skips). All new plumbing, all rewired, painted all 4 vaults, (320 litres of paint.). New hammer strength and flex pieces, Built new boxing ring and made a whole vault into boxing room.
With the 2 vaults now it is Vault 1 - Boxing, Vault 2 - Cardio, Vaults 3&4 - Weights.
Still a work in progress.
Brunswick, have renovated and painted the whole inside, rebuilt boxing room, added more equipment, given even more atmosphere.
Still a work in progress........

Well Tony,as you know, its great to have a hardcore gym,but as a gym owner friend of mine says 'the money is in 30-40aged women'
You seemed to adapt your gyms to this and I wish you all the best success
-
Sydney does not have one 24hr gym. :'(
Used to have two tilll a couple of years ago.
But congratulations Tony you have truly excellent set ups.

Thanks Rob, there are 4 vaults, each one is 60 metres long. They are under Melbourne's busiest railway tracks, great atmosphere and plenty of history. The walls between the vaults are bluestone and 1.2 metres thick.

thats 65yards and 4 feet for you slow metrication americans...

Can I have a job at your gym Toney?

while people in construction may use square or cubic yards to order building material, the only place the average american uses yards is on the football field. 60 meters is just under 197 feet

i think your question is about sydney, not australia.
it really shits me that people think sydney is australia...because its far from it. Sydney has more in common with LA than the rest of australia.
i avoid sydney as much as i can. expensive, loads of people everywhere, fags walking everywhere you look, freaks left right and centre, and attention whores are a dime a dozen.
go to any other city in australia to get a better idea of what this country is about.
but, Tony's gyms are no doubt the best around..gotta give credit there...i bet they arent cheap though...
-
Those pictures are great - capitalism operating efficiently I see.

sydney is a drag most of the time I admit....
terrible transport system, insanely expensive housing, corruption in everything...

Tony was that ronnies last time for real? I remember in 05 he was big. He's lost alot of leg size. And he claims to be 295?

they may know how much 10 yards is on their tv screen. my point is that the average american does not use yards and feet as a unit of measure in everyday language, only feet. No one would say 30 yards 2 feet. They'd say 92 feet.

metric system is starting to sound a little more sensible all of a sudden... ;)

you think?
its only taken 43 years ...so far.....
for the rest of the world it is (the refusal to accept metric) an indication of american ignorance and arrogance.
and they complain about the french?!!

I think most americans would be shocked to know how many of their producers have actually converted to metric (in order to be able to sell stuff overseas) but just haven't told them about it....
John Deere is a good example.

lived in Sydney for the first 20 years of my life..... moved to Brisbane last year.. can't wait to move back down.. Brisbane is nice.. Melbourne is a couple of streets and Sydney is the best city in Aus.. easily.. well the city nightlife is good but the suburbs are even better

I lived in Brisbane nearly through the whole of the 90s. Love the city to death, but couldn't stand the heat. Auckland is more mild / colder, which I love.
-

Aye, they have no equipment, though. 24:7 means nothing to most people, a decent gym is more the issue.
-

Is it any different to any other city? Morons + alcohol = retards beating people to near death. Seems to happen everywhere.

If you got drunk once in brisbane, you probably know more than me, I don't go out (I do not like drunks, one bit) - so I wouldn't know.

Funny, ran into a woman i used to work with who just came back from Brisbane, was there 20 months, said she couldn't stand it, after saying it 3 times i asked why, she said it's full of bogans.
and she used to live in Blacktown ;)
-
Born and bred brissie boy...I'[m not going to say its the best city, but hey, its come a long way since the 80s...Expo 88 was our turning point from big country town to something more cosmopolitan....
Lots of Bogans in Brisbane for sure.....I'd say a good 60% of the suburbs are boganish (thats some 100 suburbs were talking....fuck!)
Stick to inner-city - west, north, south and east.....good pubs, good cafes, good classy pussy
Brisbane #1 problemo is the city wasnt built to hold more than say 1.5 million......we got over 2 mill these days.....no wonder the c'nts are digging tunnels everywhere....peak hour here is worse then Sydney (lived there for 6 months back in 2008)
and the humidity......truly aweful during the feb/mar months.....
Sydney #1 claim to fame - the habour.....its impossible to beat.....its stunning and no other city offers anything remotely close
-
congrats Tony , you have some kick ass gyms
I wish you to prosper !

Because it's pretty basic stuff, any real man would know it is Acrylic primer and paint.

oh boy... the question was in regards to the logistics of painting the inside of an operating 24/7 gym...

yeah mate.. I used to go to Fitness First because there's no gym around but those fuckin franchise.
I then quit FF and joined Jetts, which was newly opened next to my suburb.
As you said, not enough equipments..

Depends on where she lives.. Certain suburbs are bogan infested like Logan, Ipswich, etc..

24 hour keytag gyms are opening like crazy in australia.
They can make money due to the minimal staffing required but they tend to be in smaller buildings and with most people wanting cardio the tradeoff is specialised strength equipment like standing leg curls, hack squats, t bars, decline bench press etc.
The one I go to has no calf equipment or lower back extension bench but it's nice to be able to train at ten pm on a sunday night though...
-

We just work around people, most of our members like progress so it works out. Even with the big renovation in the city we stayed open. It meant moving the equipment 4 times, thems the breaks.
I only had one guy complain. I had honored his membership from the old shapes gym. He had never paid anything to me so I told him to hop it, come back when it is finished ..... he didn't like that so I told him to fuck off..... haha
