Freddie Mercury is the best rock singer ever get your facts right.
A number of rock 'n' roll greats worship Paul Rodgers and his incredible voice. What do some of the biggest names in the business have to say? “Paul Rodgers has been, and still is, by far, one of the finest talents of our musical genre”
— Jimmy Page
“Paul was a hero to Freddie and us when we were starting out. When I first worked with him, I was in awe of him.”
— Queen's Brian May
“I am a huge fan. His voice is probably the greatest rock-blues voice we have here in the U.K. I remember when we first played on a show with Free, The Small Faces were on the bill. Steve Marriott and I stood stunned at the authority of Paul's sound, style, and control.”
— The Who's Pete Townshend
“Paul Rodgers is the best singer in rock and roll; no one else comes close. His range, his tone, his phrasing; it doesn't get better than him. Paul is my favorite rock-and-roll singer.”
— Ritchie Blackmore

2 of the greatest voices in Metal!!

Steve Perry

Sebastian Bach.

Elvis and Chris Cornell – great choices.
But this is what I’d like to sound like:
-
Best Singer Ever!!! (http://yougotrickrolled.com/)
please don't click ;)
-
It's not unusual...
-
great song
-
It's not unusual...
;D
my choice=
-
bono 84-94 is the best rock singer ever. once he got that falsetto going during zoo-tv, it was game over. freddy is right there with him of course. those two guys are the only two singers who could push there voice to breakup without screaming (like cornell or plant or vedder). bono is still amazing. he was singing pavarotti's part on miss sarajevo on the last tour and doing a fine job. he might not have the range that he used to, but he can still soar..
-
Sebastian Bach.
- Block!
He is not what he used to be. :'(
I am still a huge Bach fan even though its just monkey business
-
the 90's rock singers were pretty good i.e. cornell, vedder, stanley. the 70's had some good ones as well plant, ozzy(not a good singer but he had a cool voice), floyd! but metal is where its at!
sing scream and dosen't com off like a pussy
awesome!
dosen't get gayer than this video, but....
-
It's not unusual...
Thats not Bob Chick

Why do people think that a "man" singing falsetto is a plus?
-

Getbig is full of castrati fans. You know that Show. ;D
-
Patton is too weird for most people. Hell, he's even weird in person.
-
Falsetto is pretty cool, listen to Cool Cat by Queen for example, Freddie uses his falsetto throughout the whole song. Still I agree with you, falsetto and high notes are not what makes a great singer, but most people think so because they don't know any better. High notes gives the listener an emotional peak in the song and is a handy tool when singing. Mike Patton ftw.
I hear ya. It's ok to do at times, but so many people use it as some kind of measuring stick.
-
His Voice will pull lots of pussies for sure
-
Robert Plant
Eddie Vedder pre-2000
Morrissey these days
-
the 90's rock singers were pretty good i.e. stanley.
STALEY in the 90s, absolutely - Stanley in the 70s!
-
00:40 is amazing
or michael buble maby, or chris daughty

Maybe....but would it be the kind you want?

oh, i think chris is awesome, i just don't think anyone but freddy and bono can maintain this type of vocal clarity when pushing their voice (2:45-3:40):
-
Clarence Carter, Clarence Carter, Clarence Carter, OOOOH SHIT Clarence Carter!
-
00:40 is amazing
or michael buble maby, or chris daughty
that was really good!

incredible voice has to be a star
-
2 of the greatest voices in Metal!!
Fuckin' A!!!
-
thats much better
people make fun of death metal but its hard to do well, espeacially with out cupping the mic, chris barnes during the CC days was pretty damn good, i want to see chris cornell homo ass try it ;D
-
oh yeah i am surprised no one mention Maynard from tool/a perfect circle. for a straight up singer he is great!
-

That's the worst thing I've ever heard.
Almost as bad as rap

smeh to each their own.
not every one is into death metal, personally cannibal corpse is not the best, but chris barnes was pretty good.
maynard still crushes cornell though, on originality and lyrical content.

I'm a huge Tool fan (cue homo jokes), I like them just as much as I like Soundgarden. I'd like them even more if they would cut the 5 minutes of aimless noodling they have on like every song. Sometimes it works, most times it just kills the momentum
I agree that Maynard is a better lyricist than Cornell, but that wasn't the question. IMO Cornell has the better voice. although Maynard is no slouch.
But that crap you posted is atrocious noise :D
-
-
-
I'm a huge Tool fan
oh how the mighty have fallen ;D
tool is like getting a blow job with no finish sometimes, they are again not my favorite but i think maynard is pretty good. sometimes lyrical content will sway me for a singer. like i am sure there are great singers in R and B now but they will never hold a candle to old motown!
in the end james hetfield is my favorite singer, but i just don't want to seem like a metallica(80's+black album) guy, even though i am.
-

but that sound i like!
vegan death metal \m/........ punish humans not the animal.......... arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr .................... i hate my parents................. ... grrrrrrrrrrrrrr ........................ ...

Perfect analogy. they are just humming along ( ;D) and they just......stop. then start....then stop. If they lost that shit you'd have a great 4 minute song, instead of a 12 minute test of patience

elvis
x2
There is simply no one who compares.
The interpretation, emotion and power was extraordinary.
Quite possibly also the best looking male singer ever.
Indeed, there is something very stange about one person possessing so much talent and looks. I think you know what Im trying to say here.

Elvis just wished he could sing like this unknown kid.
-
Probably Pavarotti or something like that.
-
Elvis just wished he could sing like this unknown kid.
yeah he is good. but this one kinda sucks.
-
yeah he is good. but this one kinda sucks.
How so?
Pitch is fucking perfect.
Why anyone would wanna sing Slayer is beyond me anyway.
-
I guess I don't like slayer. Not the most soothing vocals. But yeah Geoff Tate, (Skid Row)Bach, old Dream theater...can't remember his name off hand.
-

James Labrie, good ol' Canadian boy.
He had some vocal issues apparently so he can't sing as well.

-
Optimus Prime
Fuck that! Megatron or Unicron!!
-
Kim Wilson or Gregg Allman
-
end of debate, alice in chains vocals are ridiculous
-
This guy's voice would be great for picking up women. This song was in about 5 episodes of The Sopranos. In one scene Carmen and the other mob wives were listening and talking about him, and you could tell their panties were moist. ;D
-
Now I wouldn't want to sing like this, but this girl's voice is incredible! ( no homo )
-
Fuck your metal shit music, they are growling and screaming they don't know how to sing they would be absolutely humiliated by a strict teacher.
As if there is only one standard when it comes to 'singing' you narrow minded everyday normal guy ::) A lot of metalheads have a conservatory background and have a much better instrument/voice controll than the average (s)hit artist. Go educate yourself before judging this way.
-
Mike Patton is awesome, Robert Smith is great. Halford is probably my favorite traditional metal vocalist, Sad Wings and Screaming are my two favorite Priest albums. For death metal vocals I like Matti Way. Lee Dorrian rules also.
-
Tony Harnell from the band TNT. I would be shocked if anyone knew who he was here.
Devin Townsend is a great singer. I had no idea that he was the Strapping Young Lad vocalist. I started listening to him on the Steve Vai CD Sex and Religion around 1992 I think.
-
Bruce Dickinson

great choice...i also discovered in the Steve Vai cd...He has a lot of side projects and solo albuns, the guy is a genius
-
BONO as mentioned and old school king of cool dean martin ....
-
Oh so what you're saying is that alot of them have the ability to sing nice and project their voice without hurting the vocal chords and slowly destroying their throats, but they choose not to and would rather scream and growl like fucking barbaric morons?
Trying to start a matter-of-taste discussion? ::)
Getbig is one of the few places where most folks prefer metal over (s)hit music. You must have a hard time here ;D
-
No no, don't want a discussion. I know for a fact that you have to have some underlying mental issues if you like listening to angry violent growling and screaming.
You don't want a serious discussion but would only judge ::) Judging this way is the typical behaviour of a narrow minded person who thinks to know what's a good voice or not (pathetic, haha!). In fact you don't know a shit. For example the facts that many metalheads have a higher IQ than the average, are more respectfull and social people and like other styles of music as well like pop, classic, jazz and others. Again, educate yourself before making yourself a fool.
-

Take your psychoanalysis bullshit to the MMA thread:

Oh so I'm the one who's judging? What about your automatic assumption that I listen to "(s)hit" music? You metalheads always have this delusional thing about how you are not mainstream and special and that "other people" listen to mainstream crap when I enter every music discussion on any board without exception. All the while your listening to heavy distorted gitar and voices that sound like air filtering through sandpaper.
Honestly I'm sick of your metal-arrogance. I cannot take it seriously, believe me I tried, I even bought "Kill Em All" and tried listening to some Atreyu or whatever. Without exception, the songs I liked were the ones that had the least screaming and excuse me for saying it "noisy" arrangement.
Want a napkin for that drooling? In fact you're the one started judging after a lot of us just showed their love for loud & heavy music. If you talk shit about others, they talk like shit about you as well, simple is that. That '(s)hit music' assumption was like a mean bitch huh, so I understand your 'feelings' ::)
BTW, it's 'guitar' not 'gitar' (is this an indication of your knowledge of music?)
-
I live in norway (isn't that your metal-mecca or something?), we write gitar here and I made a mistake so what. How original is that commenting on spelling errors, is that an indication of your debating skills?
You're a pretty serious dude, aren't you? Please read my personal quote ::)
This one is for you, hope you like it (I liked it, but that was a very long time ago)
;D
-
Nah dude, I was just in the mood for arguing. I don't actually mind some heavy music as long as the vocalist isn't growling.
I'm not either into growling/grunting style, but more the nu-metal style.
My final words in this 'discussion': It's just human behaviour to respond with disgust when something is provocative/extreme like a big bodybuilder, heavy metal or a pornstar with big tits.
