Title: Maids Service
Post by: Original Sin on November 04, 2009, 02:42:55 PM
Anybody use one of these?

I am sick of cleaning house and my place is really starting to show it  :-X
I really need a service, suggestions, prices?

I would still hire Migs, but when he puts on that little French Maid outfit he looks so sweet and tasty I just can't leave him alone to clean.
All I am getting out of this is having to wash the bed sheets more.  :-\

My ex was a slob so we got Merry Maids.  They did a good job and were trustworthy (didn’t steal anything). http://www.merrymaids.com/

my mom and one sister clean houses.  Actually mom is retired.  I help my sister clean an office a few times a week.  The only thing with most cagencies is that they don't do much deep cleaning.  Mostly surface cleaning.  But tit definatly helps.  molly maids is popular.

P.S.  I put an extra sheet of fabric softener in the dryer.

I had a woman come over 2X month for several years.  She was wonderful.  She brought ALL of her own stuff - cleaning supplies, vacuum, etc. - EVERYTHING.  She didn't use any of my stuff which was great, cuz I didn't have to buy anything unless I wanted something in particular.

She let Keesha out, folded clothes if needed, and made the bed if needed.  Each time she was there, she had a different focus - either upstairs or downstairs.  If things were looking good - say I was traveling a lot, so things weren't too bad, she would wipe down the woodwork, cabinets, baseboards.  If there was anything in particular I wanted, I'd just leave a note with a little extra tip.  She had a key and I left a check on the counter.  Trusted her completely.  Got her thru word of mouth, which IMO is the way to go. She was amazingly efficient and was done in about 3 hours.  I think I paid her $75 ~ maybe $100  ???
One time the vacuum cleaner got stuck on a rug and unravelled it.  She felt so bad, took it home with her and resewed it.  It wasn't a big deal to me  :-\  She did not do windows.

Boy that is a lot cheaper then I thought it would be.  Sounds exactly what i want.  Now I need to convince her to commute. lol

It is hard to find somebody to do windows. Migs used to, until the neighbors signed a petition that either he had to stop or stop wearing the French Maid outfit.
Needless to say I have really dirty windows now.

Check around and see if you can get recommendations from friends or neighbors.  Make a list of specific tasks you want covered, especially if it's beyond the "basics", like cleaning inside the fridge or changing the sheets.  Don't assume anything.  Interview several candidates before making a decision and get references.

Someone who's experienced should be efficient and able to complete the job in under 4 hours unless you have a mansion.  Chances are they want to be able to do 2 houses a day.  Mine was able to get 2800 sq ft done in about 3-1/2 and that included her hauling all her stuff in and out.  The going rate should be $20-$25 per hour.  I don't think too many will be using their own products though - maybe their own rags  :-\
