Title: Does GABA really work for sleep?

Just curious if anyone has used it and found it effective?  And if so at what dose?  Is it something that helps to knock you out, or does it just kind of relax and slow the mind down a bit to let you fall asleep more easily?

Try Phenibut, that shit works 10X better than regular gaba for sleep

I'm a hard case.  Melatonin doesn't do shit for me anymore.  Got to the point where I was taking 9 mgs with 500 of niacin and still didn't work.  And valerian doesn't agree with me at all.  Any other suggestions are welcome, but Lunesta and Ambien are totally out of the question due to really bad experience

GABA is not a drug that is the whole point.  Trying to find something natural that works.  What is it about people from other countries that makes them suck?  :P

Well, whatever the fuck it is you're obviously stuffing something in your body for mind/physiological altering effects.

GABA works good. It makes your lips tingle and gives you shortness of breath. Some people get weird dreams.

Best thing I've used for sleep was melatonin. I bought a sublingual spray version from Dr. Mercola's website.

I woke up and then lay in bed for what felt like a long time but when I got up I found out I'd only been asleep for 6 hours even with the sleep in. Also it was great for jet lag.

I used tryptophan a few times. One time I went for a walk to the shops before bed and on the way back I drank i mixed up the tryptophan and drank it on the way back. I barely made it home, I felt like I was going to have to sleep in the bushes was so tired. Other time I had it before bed and had to run to bed from the couch to get there in time. I had to take an absolutely huge leak in the middle of the night so I got up and was leaning against the toilet wall struggling to keep my eyes open and my head up. I got back to bed and went face first onto the bed and went to straight to sleep, didn't even get under the covers.

Gaba worked for me. Another amino acid involved in sleep regulation is glycine, take 3 grams before bed and you will sleep just as well or better than with gaba, and have none of the side effects.

Lemon Balm otherwise known as melissa officianlis is also good for sleep. Others herbs I have tried include Hops extract, Valerian and passiflora.

What would the side effects be?  Never knew that about glycine.  How does it compare pricewise to GABA?

I used to get that on melatonin sometimes.  Not necessarily nightmares all the time, but a few.  Mostly I would just have the craziest most vivid dreams ever to the point that  I'd do that startle wakeup thing and it would take a minute or two to realize it was just a dream.  The ones that involved falling or running were intense.  lol

TV is the worst thing ever for sleep.  I end up all night if I turn it on at bed time.

Appreciate the opinions and suggestions so far guys.  Keep em coming

Huh? When I watch TV from bed I'm most of the time gone within 10 minutes (even when I just got up 2 hours before lol).

I love the moment when you're piss drunk and start to get sleepy and when you finally (hopefully) hit the sack and feel so relaxed. I usually have about a 5 minute golden moment where falling asleep feels so good. Now if you've had too much to drink you might end up passing out on the street and vomiting profusely, but that's another matter.

Worst is when you're fucking drunk, death-tired and glad u finally lie in bed, but when u lie everything begins spinning and you get the ugly gut-feeling that you have to get up one more time that night, you won't be able to stay in bed uninterrupted. ;D

hahaha, YES!  Or the dreaded "bed spins" that sometimes take over soon after lying down.....it's all about practice.

Hmmm. It will make you sleep like a rock for a full ten hours. I had 10 grams of it in powder form. I think I had it mixed with some other aminos to help it cross the blood brain barrier I can't exactly remember. It had the same effect on a friend who weighs 120kg. Can't remember if I woke up refreshed or not either.

Clearly havent worked out on into the evening ending at 8pm and need to be asleep by 12.. Hard to tone down the CNS sometimes to get rested.  Whats with foreigners not having really any responsibilities or tight schedules that force them to burn the rope at both ends?

But of course there's ton of reasons to take medications! But if you start depending on them to function then there might be a problem..
I've been to america recently and was pretty shocked how everyone was gulping pills like tictacs.

And please, don't talk to me about disrupting sleeping patterns.. I have to switch around my waking hours about 2 times per week, at least.

I've gone that route bro, but when you need something every night the gut rot in the morning that follows with nyquil is unaccceptable.  I won't even go into the horrible smelling gas that comes with it.  A dozen eggs have nothing on nyquil

Just an FYI to this thread, the reason I'm wondering about GABA specifically is that I was a heavy G user back in the day.  It was the most amazing sleep ever, and so I figured since they are somewhat related it would be worth getting some opinions on to see if it's worth trying. 


If anyone has used both, is there any comparison at all between the two?

hahaha dude, you're totally right.  I've been using it for 3 nights now, fighting a bad cough, and it makes me cranky and smelly.

just get or make sum ghb  works great n will make u bigger,leaner n stronger..naturally occuring in ur body,  but hard to find,, easy to make if u can get the iingrediants...use to make tons of the stuff back when it was legal..best thing ever for recovery and sleep..but another government paronoid thing taken away just like epidrine !!

Alcohol is more similar in effects than GABA in My opinion, fuck chemical structures and shit, they act completely different.

Glycine is dirt cheap, a 1-lb tub of powder from Now is about $15, or in capsules about $8 for 200 caps.

A recent study also showed it is involved in the repair of joint cartilidge as it plays a role in the production of glycosaminoglycans. Ive been using it for a couple of years but after a few days of use, I always found my joints felt better but never knew why, until I read a study released this year.

When I was talking about the sides with GABA, I meant the ones that other posts have mentioned ie the tingling feet and fingers and some of the weird dreams. I personally only noticed the tingling feet nothing else.
With Glycine I just get a long deep sleep. I switch between that and hops extract or lemon balm as both of these work for me. If you can find real hops you can actually just stick them in a porous mesh bag and leave them in your bedroom, they active ingredient that promotes sleep is actually released into the air and can be absorbed very well, dont even need to eat them. However the smell is not that great so sticking with the caps is easier ;D
