So is the contest done, cancelled or just postponed?
Bob Chick said on PBW that the Ironman is coming to an end, but the promoter of the Ironman said that he is only postponing it?
Will the show be back in 2010 or 2011?
-
If this doesn't reaffirm that this so called "sport" is a joke, then I don't know what does.
One of the biggest events is cancelled in bodybuilding. WTF.
Sidenote...anyone wonder wtf Jocelyn Petlier is going to do? Isn't this the only open show where he gets to show off his massive geriatric physique?
Further sidenote...about the "sport" of bodybuilding. Does anyone else think it's pathetic when they have shows in high school gyms or auditoriums? You know, the pics where they have the competitor posing all tan and oiled up with a row of lockers behind him?
hahahahahah bodybuilding

Just listening to Bob on PBW talk about the mess with the Ironman show.
Times change, Things change.... maybe it opens up doors for other promoters or shows.
Balek is NOT CANCELLING THE IRONMAN -
merely postponing it.
All about dollars and cents, nobody's fault, etc.

I was shocked there are what, 20+ NPC shows in southern cal that do so well... and such a limited fan base for professional mens bodybuilding.

Think about it. NPC shows are attended by friends and family and schmoes. Also, the pageant competitors pay fees and such to enter the shows. Where as pro shows mostly rely on schmoes to support them. Sadly (for IFBB), not all gays are into oiled up muscle bound men.....

LMAO soo true! We need more schmoes, that is the answer to save bodybuilding.

Most of those schmucks are looking for agents to get into acting/modeling anyway.

Check this out! It goes to show that jealousy and insecurities has always ran pampant in the NPC and IFBB. It does in the state of Illinois and it does on a more grand scale...

When John Balik approached me in late 1989 and asked me: “if I was going produce our IFBB MEN’S UNITED STATES PRO”. “I told him”, “Hell No”!
I explained to Mr. Balik, I produced the event in 1988 had all the top guys and hit 3000 attendance, sold over forty exhibit spaces at the Disneyland Hotel in Orange County California. So I understand this allegedly beat the “Night of the Champions” attendance record and allegedly pissed off the producer and powers that be.
The following year in 1989 I offered the same cash prize money for the IFBB MEN’S UNITED STATES PRO”. I could barely get the top Professionals to respond. My attendance plummeted to from 3000 to maybe 500 attendees.
It was allegedly told to me and others later that the top guns where allegedly ask not to enter my production because of our grand popularity the year prior. This is where the 1990 IRONMAN PRO. MADE ITS GRAND DEBUT AND SHAWN RAY WAS CROWNED THE FIRST IRONMAN WINNER.
We hope it all works out for Mr. John Balik and the IRONMAN legacy. “It’s a great event, maybe too great”!
“It’s all about the $$$$$$$$$$$$, “don’t ever forget it”!

Mike put on some of the biggest and best shows. He definitely knows how to promote a show
-
He does but he put on TOO good of a show and other promoters and talking heads got jealous and had to squash him and his production.
Very common in the NPC and IFBB.
I've seen it here in Illinois. Jealous promoters tearing down the promoters who the competitors and fans love.

A schmoe reunion can solve that matter in mins. (no joke)

God, you need some help. Is everything you post negative or some conspiracy theory that only you know about?
-
I don't see what's so complex about this situation.
The Arnold is the premier event.
If faced with choosing one or the other, the best bodybuilders will choose to compete in the Arnold. That means the second rate guys choose the Ironman. Second class competitors = second class show.
If faced with choosing one or the other, most of the bodybuilding fans from around the world will go to the Arnold.
The only way to get the best bodybuilders and the most fans, you have to go back-to-back weekends or very close to that.
But when you do that, the companies who buy the booths and make the event profitable will choose the Arnold before the Ironman. Packing up everything and traveling across country to present at both shows--especially in this economy--is less likely to happen.
It's a business decision not to compete again the Arnold.
It has nothing to do with the men in thongs.
-
It's very obvious that Chick doesn't want The Ironman to go forward. If it's not in the interest of The Weider Cabal then these guys are gonna do what they can to make it go bye-bye.
-
Chick is a moron

The Arnold is an invitational event. A pro cannot merely 'choose' to compete there.

The shows had been near one another on the IFBB calendar for several years.
Moreover, the FitExpo - which is still taking place without the Ironman competition - is a completely separate business venture. I don't know what companies will be there, but there's a likelihood that some of the companies represented there will also be at the Arnold.
Your argument fails because of a lack of accurate information presented by you.

remember the contest when gunther beat ronnie c, next year they were told by the powers of the ifbb to cut there prize money way down, who is looking out for the athletes no one it appears. they should have been commended for the money they gave out not condemmed.

again, it gets back to the jealousy that TehBlock was talking about. in no other "business" will you find such pettiness and jealousy.

Mike Glass, could it be that your are a crook and user, why no one wanted to do your show ?
-

You're just saying that because he had a free buffet table at his event and extra wide seating for your Boeing 747 ass.

I always say, bodybuilding causes alot of jeolousy and envy from "outsiders" but people involved in bodybuilding, promoters, competitors etc....to me theres no need to hate on each other, but its "ALL ABOUT THE BENJAMINS", what promoter makes more money, has more competitors, etc. Like block said, here in illinois, it is very "click-ish". Thats the vibe i always get at every show ive been too. Thats why i come by myself, shoot the shit with a few people here and there, watch the show to keep me motivated, lurk around the booths, get samples.......shoot the shit with a bald-headed uncle fester looking dude, and be on my way when the shows over. The "powers that be", competitors, etc....just need to get their heads outta thier asses' and be civil and tell each other they did a good job putting on the show, or competing. But it is wht it is. "Everywhere you go theres DRAMA Fo sho in the NPC chicagooo!!!"
