Title: Desert island album
Post by: dr.chimps on November 18, 2009, 12:38:56 PM
I'm loving the best album of the 00's thread. But let's really get down to it. What one album/set would you recommend to someone on the proverbial deserted isle. Let's take off the gloves, now.

Lynyrd Skynyrd,
One more for from the road.

...if it's only gonna be one album I'm at least gonna make it a double album!

Another cup by Yusuf Islam

you know, i think he used to have a singing career under another name.  I'm sure it's shitty compared to his Islam days.   ::)

his older stuff is AMAZING AND LEGENDARY BUT it would only make me somewhat sad

"another saturday night" makes me think about my dateless weekends when i lived in NYC
"moonshadow" makes me think of my parents when they came to this country

plus, I want to sound somewhat hip/relevant by choosing his stuff after the conversion rather than his "popular" stuff

Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti

I thought of that one also.

Der Ring des Nibelungen by Wagner and a close second third would obviously be Loreena Mckennitt The Book of Secrets as well as Mediaeval Babes.

But in reality I cannot choose as my music list is endless and it would certainly not be fair to place one above the other as something as complex as this matter is not comparatively possible given the circumstance at hand.

If I were on a desert island as opposed to a deserted Island, I would probably long after George Frideric Handel, Water Music hoping to lessen the misery of a parched throat.

We all now know which decade you are stuck in which is what you consider your "high point".

I wonder, do you still wear your Eddie Bauer flannel and Duck Head shorts during the weekdays?

Very good choice, Purple Aki.

I'd consider OK Computer by Radiohead, as well.

Another one of my favorites is Obscured by Clouds--Pink Floyd.

Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti

I have to go with this, too, mainly because it's a studio double-album with no filler from the best hard rock band ever.

Live albums are basically "greatest hits" and shouldn't be included.

I HATE live albums....awful shit.   Very few exceptions.

The guitarist for Thin Lizzy was on "That heavy metal show" today.....he looks like Richard Branson.  Seemed like a cool guy.

Joshua tree is great, but just too normal.  achtung is rock and roll like never done before, and it has yet to be matched.

Astral Weeks by Van the man.

I love this album.

I'd probably go for Dylan's Blood on the Track or Van's The Healing Game.

no Joni is it, she's a musician's musician.  Clouds (Both Sides Now) live and A Case Of You (Live) far outshine the Indigo Girls.

I really couldnt chose between Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby , shit chuck in Rattle and Hum and there is A Trifecta of 3 amazing albums there , U2 at there finest across those 3 albums combined.

And to be honest I dont think I could ever chose  just 1 album , way to hard.
