workout 'strategies' (oh brother ::)) and techniques/form/intensity/etc..= 2%
95+% is nothing more than genetics, how your muscle bellies are shaped and how full they are, if you dont have the genetics (which you should be able to tell within the first 2-3 months or so) then NOTHING you do will 'get you big' (LOL).
all the supps/dedication/diet wont help you if your genetic muscle shape isnt there to begin with. just give up now. there is a corner store next to you fully stocked with beer. just go there. it will be ok. remeber there is always beer.

bullshit ::) all the consistency and 'hard work' in the world arent going to give you calves if you were born without calves or shoulder width or great arms if you dont have the genes for it to begin with.

I'll never look better than someone with great genetics who lifts hard and eats well, but I'll continue to look better than plenty of guys who would bury me because they simply don't get off their ass. And my calves suck, but it's a safe bet that they look better than if I never trained them.
If you're weak or look like shit, then make an effort to improve. It can be frustrating but don't convince yourself that there's no point in even trying. That's the right message for noobs.
You might be talking about on stage bodybuilding tho. I'm more concerned with my daily walking around physique.

i actually improved my chest a lot after training for a year and thinking i was forever sticked up with a bird chest.
i still dont know what caused my chest to grow so much suddenly. probably the striving of using heavier weights everytime.
i never was able to pull off that trick with my arms though.
