He lied about his age and joined Navy at 15.
He was in battle of Midway.
Takes balls to go to war at 15. I ask that GetBiggers pay him some respect.

Like my grandfather! They don't make men like that anymore! :'(

Sorry for your loss, definitely someone to be proud of and look up to. My GP is still alive and he is one of those types, served in the Korean War, got a tooth pulled with no drugs, wrestled alligators, gave himself stitches, etc, just a hardcore old man. There aren't many men like that these days. What's a shame, is this was a man worth being recognized for his accomplishments, but what does TV recognize, wierdo/molestors like Michael Jackson.
-
My condolences to you on your loss.
For those like me that had parents that were for shit, having great grandparents is a huge blessing. My grandmother was one of my best buds ever. I could talk to her like I talk to you dipshits on here, and she would laugh her ass off, and give it right back. We were planning a surprise 90th birthday party for her (which she said she never wanted) and she passed away the week before.....damn her stubbornness, she always won ;D
The pic you posted kinda hit me, cuz when I went to my grandpa's funeral....husband of the grandma i'm talking about, and also one awesome dude....there was a pic of him from when he was in the navy, and I'll be damned if we didn't look like twins....him minus the juice. lol
They actually were in one of those lady magazines....I think it was Redbook for the story of how they met. They were definitely "two peas in a pod" as they say.
Hope you have great memories as well bro! 8)

Your gramps was the fucking man! That's when a man could be a man and a woman supported him instead of being another war front.
Bless him!
-
You've got something to be real proud of there. That generation was rock solid and the soldiers could be real proud of what they were doing.

with all due respect to your grandfather but why should you "ask" us for respect
why should you give a shit about what we (a bunch of internet degenerates) think about your honorable grandfather?
seriously, have you ever read the G and O forum? do you really want condolences from a bunch of schmoes/closet cases
this is just the internet brother- take condolences from real people with some self respect, not people who argue about some bald, fat guy with a lazy eye and whether or not he has "hollywood good looks"

sorry for your loss.
Guys are pussys now. Back in the day they didn't take shit for stress or illness. Put on a good drunk and problem solved. Instead of crying shove that shit deep in your gut and hold your head high.

Fought in a war, lived a long life, had kids, had grandkids, saw the millenium, saw tv, Internet, Space flight, nuclear weapons and more. Sounds like a pretty damn good life! Instead of asking Getbiggers to honor him you should live your life honoring him...let his experience make you a better man. Can you do better? Can any of us do better?

Much respect and gratitude for your Grandpa's service to our country.
Hang in there, each day will get a little less painful from you missing him.

Not the proper place to honor your grandfather, you obviously cared about what he thought ::) ::) ::) ::)

there is no greater place to be appriciated then GB.
One compliment from a getbigger is worth like 500 compliments from normal people

it for sure is a miracle if someone can achieve a solid relationship, work and have kids and grandkids he cares about nowadays, with more than 50% of couples divorcing and stupidity being the religion number one for all of those who feed themselves with TV all life long.

not ascribing to the MJ taunt, i couldnt agree with you more about the rest...(at least MJ contributed to society).
its the losers like paris hilton and every flash in the pan actor and mainstream "muso" (read hot chick that can sing a little bit) - not to mention the athletes who are heralded as legends and theyve done nothing but run around on blessed genetics.
every year it seems that the australian of the year, or father of the year etc..is a sportsperson.
what about people like this guy's grandpa?..
people who work charity, full time jobs, feed and clothe their kids and have a disability?
how about those who work tirelessly donating their time towards helping others and the environment?
or those hard worked millionaires who made it on the back of work ethic and then give away thousands to the less fortunate?
no one knows who they are...
thats what is all crap about the world we live in.
money is , as they say, the root of all evil- even in recognition of others.
ok, done with my rant.
RIP to your gpa dude.

Next time you see a magazine or TV show featuring a random grandpa, buy the issue or watch the show. Why should people 'know who they are'? They have no celebrity value, but that doesn't take away any of the respect. I don't think those people really want to be "known" anyways
