ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Charles Woodson wants to be known as more than a football player.

Donating $2 million to the new University of Michigan Mott Children's Hospital and Women's Hospital gives him a chance to do that.

The school announced Woodson's gift on Thanksgiving before he played for the Green Bay Packers against the Detroit Lions.

Woodson's money will support pediatric research by The Charles Woodson Clinical Research Fund in the $754-million, 1.1-million square foot hospital slated to open in 2012.

He hopes to attract the world's best researchers who want to help children with cancer, heart disease, kidney disorders and autism.

Woodson said during a visit to Ann Arbor earlier this month that becoming a father motivated him to make the gift.

I am a HUGE lions fan but i have to cheer for My man  8) I loved it when he took the pick six all the way back and gave the Heisman pose just like Desmond.  8)

I saw that story to, and glad I did. UT Vols have a universal hate for Woodson for getting the Heisman over Peyton Manning their Senior years. I like the dude a lot more now, good fella indeed.

got dude on my fantasy team...He's singlehandedly pullin out games for me...got me like 22 points yesterday haha...more than anyone on offense...

lol buddy of mine has him too he got him like 27 pts...freaking insane from a defensive player

sucks b/c i needed him to lose this week im in a 4 way tie for 3rd and 4th for the playoffs with only 3 weeks left.

I'm in a 5 way tie right now for the remaining two playoff spots...need to win out...
