Read her book and she explains in a lot of detail what happened immediately after the campaign. Left wing freaks literally shut down the govt and bankrupted her by filing daily ethics charges and FOIL requests that she herself was personally liable for.
Everyone in the gov's staff had to spend all their time dealing with this garbage and guess what? She was cleared on all of them. she had hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal bills that accumulated since her attorneys had to deal with every single one of them and she had to deal with each one under Alaskan law.
She had even one reporter caught by secret service stalking her house in the woods and others camped out on the ice behind her house.
Her daughter Piper was stalked at school and everywhere she went to the point she could not even let her out of the house.

At first, I thought it was horrible that Palin resigned as Gov. I still think it was a bad decision but we can only imagine the shit the left was throwing at her with their obsession against this woman. I can understand if she doesn't plan on running for a large office again, then her stepping down makes sense.
I think Palin can rally so many people in 2012 but it would be a bad mistake for her to run for president...and bad for the republican party. The republicans need a less polarizing figure. If the liberals helped run her out of the govenor's office do you think there will be less pressure applied to her as prez? No.
