Title: Poll on nuclear energy
Post by: 240 is Back on November 29, 2009, 05:47:53 AM
1) Do you think the US should greatly expand nuclear energy and build a lot of new plants in the US?

2) Would you mind if your house was located 100 yards from a nuclear power plant?

Mods, can you set up a poll?

If the issue is that we have expensive energy by unreliable sources as opposed to nukes, I say we go for nukes.

I am all for coal 100%.  However, cap & trade will bankrupt the coal companies.

Did you ever see this clip?  Watch the whole thing.  Its 4 minutes.

yea, that's the tricky part...  I wouldn't live near one...  I'm not going to support it as long as I don't have to live within 200 miles lol...

Most telling will be if the lobbyists and politicians supporting nuclear energy will give the green light to a plant close to home.

There's an expert for every opinion nowadays to the point that expert opinion is trite. I hear 'experts' telling me that nuclear energy is safe. Then again, I could probably find an expert to tell me why it's so unsafe.

Let's see the CEO of a nuclear plant move his kids next to one - let's see these experts put up and do the same. Maybe then public perception will change.

For now though, I'll err on the side of caution when it comes to believing expert opinions on living near something that has the potential to melt my skin.

yea, all is good until you have a major problem.  Oh I'm all for nuclear without problems.  Only problem is that doesn't exist.  I was listening to Dr. Michu Kaku talk for a while about nuclear accidents.  When the topic started, I figured he would mention a few incidents.  wow, how wrong I was...  Half an hour later I was sitting there with my mouth open totally shocked at all the crap nobody had ever heard of.  The fact is, the only way you're going to know there was a problem is if the problem was to big to cover up.  the rest you haven't heard about because they cover it up.  As you know, they tried to do the same with 3 mile, it was only a fluke that press caught on and the shit started in the public

I don't know if you haven't listed your reasons yet, but why?

Nuclear energy is as safe as most forms of energy and anything that gets us away from the oil-grubbing ragheads is A-OK in my book.

We've been down that road before with Harrisburg and Chernobyl.
We have some of the safest plants and control systems in the world over here.
Yet, a report shows that one of our plants were only minutes away from a meltdown the other year.

So I am definitely never gonna support MORE nuclear power. I rather see clean alternatives getting developed so we can start shutting them down eventually.
And besides, I don't see how we can tell Iran that they can't have nuclear power while we still have it
