I don't know that it's a huge deal that she is rejecting non-english speakers... a lot of peopeople agree with this sentiment. The non-english thing could be an issue in 2012 if she runs for President. Might hurt with hispanic voters. You have guys like jeb who would deliver speeches in Spanish.
And forcing people to address her as "governor" before they can ask a question... that's a little weird to actually REQUIRE it, but whatever. Not really "regular folk" of her to require a proper title, but probably not that big a deal.
You might be able to see Russia from Sarah Palin's home state, but that isn't an excuse to speak Russian.
Authorities turned away reporters who didn't speak English from a Palin event in Minnesota this week, demanding that reporters address the former Alaska governor only in English and refer to her only as "governor."
Event planners at the Mall of Americas now say it was only a "misunderstanding." Palin was scheduled to appear as part of her book-signing tour.
"Officials at the Minnesota mega-mall this week told reporters planning to cover the Minneapolis-area stop on Palin's Going Rogue book tour they must address the 2008 GOP vice presidential candidate who resigned as governor last summer by her old title - a common honor, actually, which normally is accorded to former governors," the Chicago Tribune's Mark Silva wrote Wednesday night.
"But the mall also was banning foreign reporters," he added, "permitting 'only English speaking press.' That's not a common requirement."
Mall officials apologized have since apologized for distributing the guidelines, calling the move "an internal communication."
But they went a step further, perhaps showing a few too many of their cards -- instead of just leaving at an apology, they added that the problem was that the guidelines were "inadvertently distributed."
"In other words," Silva quips, "it got out."
A spokesman for HarperCollins, Palin's publisher, was quoted as saying, "That should never have been in any kind of press release. That's not the message the governor wants to send out.''

You all realize there is no 'official' language in the united states so to say English only is a pretty disrespectful thing. Couldn't Hispanic-Americans then demand Spanish only when speaking to them? I think there needs to be more tolerance on this and that includes those who come to America and don't learn the language of the majority.

"English Only" is not about being racist. It's about respecting the country you immigrated to enough to learn the language. Russians, Chinese, Germans etc... all learn passable English. The only ones in general that don't are Mexicans. I have nothing against Mexicans and want them in our country legally.
How much money do we spend on bilingual issues? Classes in California in some areas are half taught in Spanish. There are whole communities that don't speak English. It's fucking bull shit. I say give everyone 2 years to learn passable English or they get deported.
And i don't give a shit if English is not the "official language". It's what we speak in this country. The time for tolerance is over. Learn it or get the fuck out.

Its amazing - the Chinese, Europeans, Koreans, all learn English because it is the interantional language of commerce.
Yet we are supposed to accomodate others too lazy to improve themselves?

I agree. Having a basic grasp of English should be a requirement for everyone.

English is the accepted dominant language since the country's birth. The only reason it's not the official language is because libs like KC have blocked that action ;D
As long as everyone learns English, there's nothing wrong with speaking or learning other languages. What is unacceptible is when we have to accomodate those who refuse to learn English, that's BS.
I'm with Ozmo on this one. Too many immigrants want to come here and change our traditions, assimilate and be happy to be a part of America or get out.

One of my former neighbors moved here from Puerto Rico in 1955 and still speaks broken english. Of course he's never had a decent job but somehow they think teaching grandchildren Spanish first is preserving heritage, LOL!

There is nothing wrong with speaking broken English. There is nothing wrong with teaching your children another language. However there is something terribly wrong with NOT teaching your children English in this country.
