Title: Giants G-Men Manningham
Post by: Doug_Steele on December 13, 2009, 09:46:02 PM
Did I miss the news report where Mario Manningham took Cris Collinsworth's mom out for a nice seafood dinner and never called her again? Collinsworth has been killing Manningham for "technical errors" that seem pretty petty to me. Manningham has run a few good routes that I feel Eli has thrown just a bit too far outside. Maybe Fitzgerald or Wayne catches those and gets his feet down but even your standard above-average NFL receiver is going to have trouble getting both his feet down in those situations.

One of my biggest pet peeves is when a receiver doesn't catch the ball because he's so concerned about getting his feet down in bounds. Manningham is doing a fine job looking the ball into his hands after getting open. He's just gotten a bit unlucky imo. Why is Collinsworth being such a dick?

Because, if it's the guy I'm thinking of with the Dorothy-like red shoes, he had two plays in the same game that he did not drag his feet in bounds! Very critical game, and they needed both of those touchdowns too. The second one I will say could have gone either way- the first he definitely should have been in bounds though.
And the one play he actually needed to get out of bounds on, he did not. That is why Collinsworth is being a dick. He knows the position of wide receiver, and while he may not have been the best compared to some, he can provide insight as to what should be going through the receivers mind when he gets the ball.

Collinsworth used to play WR, so I can understand if he's harder on that position in his commentary. If you saw the play where Manningham beat Sheldon Brown, it was clear that he kept drifting to the sideline whereas he could have taken it back in (Brown was beat by 8+ yards) and caught the ball in the endzone with room to spare.

I also recall another Giants game on Sunday night where Manningham ran a fade on the right sideline and caught the ball out of bounds because he kept taking it to the sideline. Collinsworth was on that game too . . . pretty sure it's been a trend and not just Collinsworth blasting him tonight

As you can see, I agree and yes, he was wearing those ugly Red Shoes!!!

Where are all the Giants fans at?

Collinsworth was exactly right in his critique of Manningham. He knows his shit. He wouldn't have a regular gig as a broadcaster and as a host on Inside the NFL if he didn't.

I'm a Giants fan.  Always like Collinsworth and still do.  He's just calling what he sees.

x2.kid has big time talent but just hasn't put it all together yet.

Hakeem Nicks started over him last night.he had a drop then comes back and makes a great run for a TD.

Nicks,Smith,Maningham, and Hixon are a good set of WR's.

They are.  None of them draw the double team that opens up Jacobs, though.

Fucking Burress.

Yep, he is the clear stud among the NY WR's and with the 2nd year being the typical year WR's breakout, he is going to be incredible.

Dorothy Mantooth

The mother of Wes Mantooth, from the movie Anchorman.
Champ Kind: I will smash your face into a car windshield, and then take your mother Dorothy Mantooth out for a nice seafood dinner and never call her again.
Wes Mantooth: Dorothy Mantooth is a saint. You understand me? Dorothy Mantooth is a saint.

He and Steve Smith were overlooked in the draft.  Manningham smoked weed which scared off teams   but he was Henne's main target at Ann Arbor!

Yes, Mario never went to class and did smoke too much weed but was only a deep threat. Chad's main target was Jason Avant and Adrian Arrington. Mario had a great double move but not sure what happened to it.

So he was your basic Wolverine player?   Smoked and never went to color a book. ;D

Funny guy!! Mario was a Ohio kid and you can never take the Ohio out of the kid. Mario spent way too much time with the women and never focused on running routes and the fundamentals of being a #1 WR. I wished that Bill Martin would have never hired RR but Mario was gone either way. Tom Coughlin needs to kick Mario's ass because coach Carr let him do whatever he wanted to do.

Well Mike Williams (remember him?) studied less than  MM and bar hopped all over LA.

He's been benched for rookie Hakeem Nicks.bad route running and twice against the Eagles he didn't keep his feet in bounds.

Hey...Mario is playing in the pros on the highest level and he's getting playing time every Sunday. He's can't be that much of a fuck up....Athlete behavior like the kind you're describing isn't happening too often in the pros these days. College life is one thing but once you hit the pros, it's time to grow up fast.

NFL players are given every tool to succeed with their position coaching. It's and far and above the level of college coaching. If he doesn't have the ambition to one day be recognized among the best in the NFL, he won't be on an NFL roster past his third year.

It was at the request of Detroit he put on that weight.   They wanted to convert him into a tight end.   Or  more like a Shannon Sharpe  (non blocker) TE.    He was great at SC with Matty,   they were basically playing catch againt those 5-9 pac 10 corners.

Mike just got fat and had no work ethic. The Lions wanted him at WR and not TE and he got cut.

I got my info from a true Lions fan. If there is such a person.  But imo Mike (and Dwayne Jarreett) needed to play all four year for maturity. Neither were ready but needed the money badly.  Looks like Steve (traiter) Smith knew what he was doing.

The only one that is even playing is Steve Smith. Dwayne Jarett is sitting on the bench for the panthers.  :D

Like I said he wasn't ready to go pro as a jr. Keyshawn warned him   but he felt the need due to the money. Smith took school seriously.  I think he graduated before getting drafted like Leinert.

Smith is the only one ballin out! Mike Williams thought that he was GOD and he reminded me of Charles Rodgers, out of M$U. I am a Lions fan and was in Michigan when both of these guys played and look where they are at now. Rodgers is a drunk! Mike Williams could not even make the Titans as a 2nd string Tight End. Keyshawn is one to give advice.  ::) ::)

Charles Rogers?   oooo that hurt but IS true.    Had Mike went to Dallas while wwe had Bledsoe, life would have been roses for both MIke and Dallas.   He was a freak his freshman yr.....his only competition was at Tuesday practices....and paying the art lab to color his books.

Charles Rodgers threw everything away and was a cocky ass when he played with the Lions. Rodgers was 6'5 coming out of M$U and ran a 4.39 for a 6'5 receiver. Rodgers was the can miss prospect coming out of college but like Mario, Charles liked the women and the weed way tooooo much. I was at a bar in Saginaw, Michigan and he was tipping girls like $2,000 a table but he never put in the "work" to become a successful NFL player. Thank God that Calvin Johnson has turned out to be productive!!

Now Detroit has a REAL qb,   any wr can be productive.  Kitna was ok   but was on IR almost every year.  WR's are hard to chose from.  There are the TO (talent but issues...then there are the slow ones who still get open...the tiny speedy ones  and the no talent but works hard ala Patrick Crayton!!!!
