Title: UK owns Simon Cowell
Post by: Army of One on December 20, 2009, 02:55:48 PM
Every year in UK in December the X-factor (UK Pop Idol) announces its winner and for the last 4 years Cowell gets them to sing someone elses song and it gets to Christmas Number one. Some guy had had enough with the manufactured crap and made a facebook group to put Rage Against the Machines 1993 song "killing in the Name of" to number one for Christmas, 500,000 people bought it and pushed Cowells X-factor song to number 2, never underestimate the power of the people!!

X-factor top 10 finalists singing Killing in the name of   :D

Both companies are owned by Sony so I am sure Cowell wins no matter what. I may be wrong but he def wins either way.

Quite brilliant.

All you end up with from Cowell is lowest common denominator music.

I'll be turning up Rage on Christmas morning now...

Maybe in the short term, but dont think for a second Cowells main cashcow in the UK, X-factor, didnt take a huge long term hit from this.

All thanks to Facebook!! So those of you that think that sort of stuff is pointless are behind the times!

it is actually pretty amazing that the X factor machine was put to the sword, yeah cowell will probably still make a lot of money, but I think the point was made...enough shoving shitty music from your yearly caraoke show down people's throats.

True, its actually a huge landmark and imagine its uses for rallying people in elections etc.

It wouldn't surprise me if Sony was behind the whole idea...but I'm surprised so many people actually gave a fuck who was Christmas Number 1.

Not entirely sure about that - Cowell doesn't own Sony so he won't get a cut of Rage's sales.  ???

Cowell is part of BMG which is owned by Sony and runs his production company Syco as well. He probably doesn't care to be honest - he's already practically a billionaire.
