Title: New Cardio approach for the new year
Post by: Stark on December 28, 2009, 02:46:31 AM
Needless to say cardio fucking sucks - sitting on a bike for 30 - 45 min sucks, and no it isn't a problem but every time I get on the bike I think, there has to be some better and more fun way to do your cardio.

Since I hurt my back 2 weeks ago I had some time to think and I what I believe is that after 10 years of going to the gym lifting weights with some good results - I need a radical new approach.
Here are the resons:

A) Just going to the gym is getting fucking boring and after 10 years I think I can do better
B) With my baby on the way I will have to adjust, I cannot just stop doing sports due to a medical condition and will have to do some form of sport all my life - but I am a realist and see that I will have to adjust - I don't want to be an egostic father.
C) I want a fun way of cardio

So since I get more and more interested in Powerlifting (saw a minor Powerlifting competition in Lativa a while back and saw what the majority were lifting and I was seriously animated to join - it looked like a lot of fun) I also want to change my Cardio.

I don't have farmerwalks (even if I consider going to a welder place I've seen and let them make me a pair) I don't have tractorwheels chains or any of that thing.

However what I have - is a car.

Here is what I think would be good - and please correct me if I am wrong.

Saturday and Sunday I will take the car to a secluded spot and push it - simple as that - I don't know how long or how much breaks I need or should have but I think pushing a car up a hill sounds like a lot more fun then to sit on the bike for any length of time.

The question is of course - I have a pregnant wife and I don't think she be to pleased having to steer the car - and since I will be doing this by myself - how can I ensure the car is staying on track?

I could by a pulling harnest?

mate no offense but I dont want to be skinny like you ;) - I rather have a little bit of fat but I am big and strong - as big and strong as I can be without use of drugs.

And in all fairness that video you posted does not look like a lot of fun :(

This is more like it...

true...but it works

fact of the matter is that i'm glad that you have looked beyond elliptical machines and treadmills as a means of cardio
I wish more people would be open minded like you

Thanks man - and I didn't want to say that you don't look good at all - so I didn't mean to disrespect you.
And I know you know your shit when it comes to cardio.

Tell me what is the benefit of doing cardio like in the video you posted?

i took it as no disrespect

without getting into specifics (mostly because sometimes i don't know what i'm talking about lol) I can tell you that doing anytype of cardio that makes you work hard, no matter what the duration is in minutes, will garner you better results than anything that is slow, steady and of long duration.

ahhhh, another convert

fact of the matter is that Intensity will always rule over duration for cardio no matter what your goal is

Is there really a fun way to do cardio?
I though the whole point of cardio is that it's dreadful.

Play tag or touch rugby or basketball.  More fun than pushing a car  ::)

Very true - I have a rugby team train every sunday on the college ground in the back of my house.
I was thinking of inquiring how to join, problem is as I said before - Time and to be flexible - thats what
made me turn my back to team sport in the first place - I don't like to "have" to turn up on a training session, I like to have that part of my life flexible.

Burpees are brutal.  Try doing 50 after a workout.  They will get you in condition quick.

Uhm, try endurance athletes. cycling and running require, besides all kinds of interval and threshold training, making basic miles, simply making the body know what it's like to endure these distances.

for sure it can be a good idea to do a form of cardio that is fun..but i have no problem walking on trweadmill i just watch TV at same time. time flies. but mostly i prefer walking outside and i find it relaxing and never see it as boring.
