I'm listening to rummy's former deputy, now of the heritage org, on FOX radio tonight.
He said in 2006, bush vowed to shut down gitmo. And then he let hundreds of terrorists free. He said obama promised to do so, broke it a year later, and it's still a long time until these guys go anywhere.
I wonder, if he's kept most of them there until 2012... will people on the RIGHT hate on him for NOT closing Gitmo?

Hey dumbass, in case you bothered to do any research into this subject at all, Bush vowed to close Gitmo only after the Supreme Court made it a point to declare it part of the American mainland, therefore entitling all of its inhabitants to the same rights of American citizens. This effectively defeats the purpose of having Gitmo in the first place.
Once that happened, what was the point of keeping it open anymore?
The right wants Gitmo to remain open as long as possible for obvious reasons-- the least of which is national security. Obama will look like a total jack ass and hypocrite to his base if the place remains open until 2012. The right will applaud that the place wasn't closed-- but we all know that if it remains open, it's not because he wanted it to remain open. The fact of the matter is that he has no idea where to put these people and most countries wont accept the detainees.
The right will look at it like a happy accident. Obama doesn't get credit for those. Why would the right care one way or the other ?
