i can only squat about half that much, but his legs dont look very much, or if at all, bigger than my own. Is it all in the style of training that produces size? or is strength the key to size as some say?

The way he does it the quadriceps isn't involved much. It's all ham, glute, ab and lower back.

Didn't add strength numbers for a reason. Jason trains for power generally not going above 3 reps on lifts like the one shown. Bench is referring to hypertrophy.
Training for power 1-3 produces more explosiveness. Lighten the load to a weight we could do and he could move it a lot faster than we can. He can MOVE that load in a shorter period of time than we can.

1-5 type 2a fast twitch - mostly strength some hypertrophy(myofibrillar)
6-10 type 2b fast twitch - mostly hypertrophy(myofibrillar) with little strength
10+ slow twitch - muscular endurance and hypertrophy(sarcoplasmic...nutrient storeage)

of course they arent set in stone minimum and maximums's. 1-5, 1-6, 1-4.... 5-10, 6-9, 5-11, 4-9, 4-10, 4-11,.... exactly...they could be a little different...but those are for the most part accurate. one thing is for sure if you doing 10-12 your on the high side of the the fast twitch 2B fibers, and where you want to be is in the middle or in the lower end of that fiber type. a least, most of the time your sets should end right about there. because of course periodization sometimes requires a different rep range for continued progress.

Just putting 1,000lbs on shoulders gets my respect, let alone doing anything with it. Hell, I'd probably have to put my shoulders into just getting that amount rolling. Just ridiculous strength. Kudos.
