Title: Lane Kiffin - Back to U$C
Post by: Doug_Steele on January 12, 2010, 06:42:08 PM
Seems like Lane is going back to the west coast!! Got his QB that he needs and is leaving some great recruits at Tennessee

Tennessee must be PISSED. Hahaha.

This sounds GREAT. You're under investigation for recruiting violations of the absolute worst kind, so you hire the guy who told a recruit he'd pump gas for the rest of his life if he went somewhere else and followed that up by opening his flap and shutting down his school's pipeline to one of the most talented high schools in one of the most talented states in the country. Not to mention the twenty gazillion secondary recruiting violations Tennessee had to self-report within two months of his hiring. I don't see how this could end badly at all.

You CANNOT make this stuff up. This is hysterical

Tennessee must be PISSED. Hahaha.

First off, screw Lane Kiffin.  What a flippin moron.  He had a great thing going there, and now he is throwing it away just to coach a bum team that is on the OBVIOUS decline and will within the month be on probation.

Secondly, how does he keep getting these jobs?  Now that I take a step back and look at it, what the hell has he accomplished?  Not Jack....

Finally, and way more importantly, here are some names of coaches I think that would be awesome to replace Kiffin...

Gary Patterson from TCU, Chris Petterson from Boise St, Randy Edsall from UConn, Skip Holtz from East Carolina, Bronco Mendenhall from BYU, and Kyle Whittingham from Utah.  I know that Cowher, Gruden, and Fisher would be awesome, but they didn't come last year, and they are not coming this year.  What do you guys think?

I'm a huge UT fan, and this is comparable to a bomb going off at Neyland. Unbelieveable, really. But, yep, pleanty of good coaches out there who I think would go to UT. Boise State's coach would be awesome, or Utah and TCU's as well. But F Kiffin, all you USC fans have fun with his big mouth and all the crap you get from other CFB fans. The guy really is a douche.

How can a guy with baggage at another school for to another school with baggage.   I don't get it.   SC needs to take tjeir time and pick a perfect coach. Mike Garrett is the Al Davis of the ncaa.

what has he ever done to prove he is a good coach?  wasn't usc's offense far worse with him?

al davis is the only guy that ever would've hired him to coach an nfl team, is having that on his resume the reason elite college programs want him?

I think its more the package deal of Monte and Ogeron coming as well. I guess baby Kiffin is some sort of whiz kid with offensive football and Daddy Kiffin, is well, daddy Kiffin. But yep, he hasn't proved shit anywhere, and as prestigious as USC is, I can't believe they did a shotgun hire like this. UT had a #6 recruiting class as well, kiss that goodbye.

i don't blame kiffin for leaving, as far as college jobs go i don't think it gets better than usc

i just don't understand why they wanted him, defense didn't look too good without a prime derrick brooks and warren sapp

if they're going on probation, kiffin should be the last coach they wanted

As much as I hate to say it becaust I hate Kiffin and USC, I think USC is going to be great in 2 years. They'll be back to their usual Rose Bowl/NC game by 2011 or 2012.

I don't think so. The guy runs his mouth like no other, and cannot back it up. And old Monte, who was such a genious on defense, had worse stats than the previous years DC and couldn't adjust very well to the CFB spread offense. Lame is a walking NCAA probation, SC is already flirting with probation, Kiffin may seal that fate.

I went to Clemson for a year and Lane recruited C.J. Spiller in Florida....C.J. told my buddy that lane was a complete ASS and said that his town was "A HOLE IN THE WALL OF A TOWN". I saw where he totally ripped the town of Pahokee....

Yep. Regmac doesn't seemed thrilled about this one, and I wonder when Big Mal will chime in. Even if SC had waited on a HC after national signing day, they still would have brought in a top 10 class by all accounts. I think in the long run this helps UT, and may hurt USC. I should have listened to Showstoppa, he called Kiffin a used car salesman, which is a compliment to that douchebag.

Dillon Baxter was going to backout of his commitment but with Lane coming...I was really hoping that he would head to MICHIGAN!!  8) It is funny because the #1 wr Kyle Prater was going to enroll early, actually on Monday but he visited Tennessee, Guess he will be heading on to U$C anyways! When Al Davis calls you out for your character, you'd think that you can shake off smack talk from a grumpy, insane old man that is more obsessed with speed than Ben Johnson on steroids...errr...Ben Johnson period. However, Lane Kiffin proved Al Davis to be exactly right to a TEE regarding his take on Kiffin's character.

Lane Kiffin had 1 year of head coaching experience. He was a part of USC's program for 5 years as an assistant coach, during which time, USC committed NUMEROUS MAJOR NCAA VIOLATIONS, violations which will have rulings handed down in the next few weeks. Kiffin came to Tennessee and committed numerous SECONDARY violations. IF Tennessee escapes the Kiffin era with no major violations regarding recruiting (Hostesses, Bryce Brown) I will be surprised. MIKE HAMILTON KNEW what bed he was crawling in when he hired Kiffin. Here was a man that had showed NO integrity at any level in any way, as an assitant or head coach.

Lane Kiffin came to Tennessee as a MERCENARY and hired a group of MERCENARIES as assistants. To an extent, that is what college football is nowadays, unfortunately. But, Lane Kiffin had ZERO respect for:

- Tennessee's Tradition
- Tennessee's Players
- Tennessee's Community
- Tennessee's Future

Lane Kiffin might as well have unzipped his fly and put his middle-finger up to all Tennessee fans while he pissed all over the "T" on the middle of Shields-Watkins Field.

Kiffin might be going to a program at USC that is headed for major probation (thanks, in part, to his doing), but he might as well have put Tennessee on probation for the next 5 years. This move is CRIPPLING to Tennessee's program. It whipes out 2 recruiting classes (This year and 2011). The talent level had already dropped for the upcoming season. The schedule is murder.

I have been a Tennessee fan since the 1986 Sugar Bowl. This is the 1st Tennessee game that I vividly remember. During this time, I endured a LONG losing streak to Alabama. I endured ridicule from Steve Spurrier. I watched as Peyton Manning was robbed of the Heisman, being the greatest quarterback to ever throw a football, by a "two-way threat" from michigan that had 11 catches, 7 INT's and 1 punt return for touchdown ALL YEAR in 1997 (1 catch per game). I have watched as Phil Fulmer lost his edge and let a program disenigrate. NOTHING that ANY opposing coach or program has EVER DONE is as big of a KICK IN THE TEETH as what Lane Kiffin did to each and every Tennessee fan tonight....and he thought his PLAYERS and the Tennessee fan-base were worth ONE MINUTE of his time. One minute....

The UT AD is going to take it's gloves off the next couple days regarding Kiffin. Kiffin was flagged for multiple DUI's last winter into Spring. Tennessee Gillespie'd these arrests. Look for details regarding this to "leak" out the next 3-4 days.

I have never been a big sheep of hiring a coach with "Tennessee ties"...but...I feel that is what Tennessee needs to do now if possible. UT needs to hire someone that RESPECTS and will HONOR the Tradition established here, someone that VALUES the opportunity to be the head coach of the Big Orange. I do not know if there is someone out there with Tennessee ties that is hirable, but now is the time to do so if EVER possible.

Tennessee Football is STRONG. The program is strong. The fans are loyal. Tennessee football will SURVIVE the traitor and coward known as Lane Kiffin. We just need to hold on and be patient and pray Mike Hamilton will make a good hire. I, for one, PRAY that Tennessee plays USC in a bowl game (should Lane be lucky enough to get in one) the next 3-4 years. I will pay whatever is neccessary to get tickets to witness that.

Lane Kiffin just did more to harm Tennessee's program than entity ever has, whether it's one person or a group. We need to move on and survive.

Go Big Orange!

I'm personally not an Edsall fan. I don't see the hype around the guy. They had one year where they were solid and a few years where they were OK. The school has been POURING money into the guy and what he's done with it doesn't impress me in the least.

Yeah, but the guy can't even hold onto the best recruits in the state. If you're a top 5 recruit in the state, chances are the Big 10 or Urban Meyer is going to come and grab you. Meyer's taken 2 of the top 4 prospects in the last four years with the Hernandez and the guy from New London.

Haha, I never said I blamed them. I would've passed up UConn in a heartbeat if the Big 10 or SEC came calling. UConn's a nice place but playing for a big time program or being down south where it's warm most of the year is nicer.

That said, I think Edsall gets more credit than he deserves because he comes off as a nice guy. Nice guy, mediocre coach.

CT, like MA has very few blue chip athletes to begin with.

Did anyone see the press conference? Pretty uneventful except for the one reporter who made kiffin squirm asking about Ed Ogeron texting UT recruits during the final meeting telling them to drop UT and go to USC. Kiffin answered the question the way Clinton would on the Lewinski trial. Enjoy him USC fans!

He is going to even bring more shame on the U$C program. I was reading about how he was talking to Kyle Prater to come back to U$C after Lane told him to come to Tennenssee. Recruiting is what it is all about though.

I read on a Vol board where Orgeron admitted on Fox sports radio that he did call UT recruits but only because he had built relationships and just wanted to square things away. What a nice fella, right? They are all good recruiters though, it should be easy for those guys now in So Cal to get who they want. Can he actually coach them up though and stay out of trouble at the same time, I say probably not.

I wouldn't, but trust me, there will be kids lining the streets to play there. Not because of Kiffin and company, but because its USC. And a lot of parents don't care about the coaches character, only that coaches ability to get his kid to the next level.

That is true for all D1 Kids and their Parents.  8) Most kids are on the three year program.

Seems like Lane is going back to the west coast!! Got his QB that he needs and is leaving some great recruits at Tennessee
What GREAT recruits did he bail out from the Memphis City Jail?

I don't know about that. Up until Carroll showed up at USC, it had been a shithole for a while. With probable punishment by the NCAA coming down the pipe, I wouldn't be surprised to see USC end up back there.

Oregon's the new big dog in the Pac 10 anyway.

Read a column on ESPN that said that Kiffin's farewell meeting with the TN players began to get very hostile. I read that certain players wanted to take a swing at him and had to be restrained by assistant coaches. Don't know how valid this story is, though.

I felt bad about this until I heard a different point of view. Which small school is going to lose their great coach to UT, now?  It works both ways, and this time out USC poached a coach from a lesser program. Just like ND did to Cinci and so on.

I felt bad for the players at Michigan when RR came to AA and when he left Morgantown. RR said that it was MICHIGAN!! He had to leave and take the chance to coach at a better school. He needs to win NOW or he is out next year!! What happens if our next coach brings back the Pro style offense???

Coaching is all about who is the SEXY pick. U$C has never shyed away from bringing in the big names because that helps gets recruits....Southern Cal, Women, pipeline to NFL and Los Angeles.
