Title: Schiek Lifting Hooks:
Post by: Montague on February 12, 2010, 12:57:05 PM
Does anybody use these?
How would you say they stack up against conventional straps?

About 3yrs ago, I was all stoked on buying a pair similar to the ones above. I waited in the mail, and they arrived on deadlift day. A sign!!! The clouds opened up, and rays of light shone.

I bent down and immediately didn't like the way the hooks felt grabbing the bar. Something about turning my wrists in a very unnatural position iirc. I don't think I gave them more than a few tries. After attempting to use them and never liking them for anything I did, I threw them in the back of my car where they've sat ever since.

Thanks.

Seems like something I'd want to try out before buying.
My buddy had a pair of their locking-dowel short straps.
I tried them, and they were okay.

Guess I'm just really used to regular straps.

Those, and some like those, seem to work best for chins or heavy lat pulldowns or cable rows. Not too cool for DL'ing. Most guy's who I have talked to just never seem to get a good feel from them when DL'ing or doing  BB rows. Probably get more bang for your buck with the nylon aircraft/tow line quality straps. Last forever. Cotton/fiber and leather one's break after awhile. Good Luck.

Don't use straps.

Best advice you could get. Your grip will catch up to your rowing and pulling strength, and your forearms will develop more. Having a strong grip is important in all the movements where you hold onto to anything including pressing movements.
