I live in the south. I always buy milk - sometimes bread. I assume you mean when the weather is 'bad' though? Hard to tell since you never referenced weather. I think a lot of people in the south have a fear of being forced to remain in their homes for a week or more due to weather. The south isn't truly prepared for bad weather. There aren't snow plows, salt trucks, etc like there is in the north. I spent time this week in NE, IA, and MN - makes me so damn glad I live in the south. I'll contine buying milk & bread as along as I can live here and not have to put up with that shitty cold weather.

A few inches is not bad weather. I use to work at a Grocery Store called Ingles and never understood why in the hell when the Southerners see a snowflake they all come in a buy all the Milk and Bread. Will Milk and Bread save your life? I am use to four or five feet of snow and walking to school.  8)

Hence the quotational reference to 'bad' - It is a relative term. Again, fuck more than 1-2 inches of snow. I'll take the majority of the year being shorts & t-shirts weather over dealing with snow & ice the majority of the year.

"south isn't truly prepared for bad weather."

yes and no.  Every 2-3 years here in South FL, we lose power for a week and have to sit around doing nothing drinking gallons of water eating Dorito's as the national guard cleans up the smashed trailers.  hurricanes.

Exactly - makes no sense for the south to make an invesment in plows, salt trucks, etc for minimal annual use
