Title: Great experience benching today
Post by: Stark on February 15, 2010, 05:13:47 AM
Just to show you once again how much the mind plays a roll in lifting your max.

After my disapointment of last weeks Friday bench - I thought I give it another shot today.
So again - warmed up and worked my way up to 100kg - that went easy so I thought well lets see if I can break my personal best today.
Asked a guy who has spotted me before to spot me and went straight for the 110kg - so again I tried to put everything into play what I learned over the past month - propper food stance the back keep it tight and the grip and took a deep breath.
To my great suprise when I took the weight off It feelt very very light - so I lowered it down to the my chest waited one second and pushed up which was super easy.
So easy that I actually checked the weight because It feelt like somebody has taken weight off.
So I went a step further and tried with 114kg this time I had to push hard but again I got it locked out.

Shows you again that if you have your mind set and everything works out you can lift more then u thought you could.
Now I know that that weight is nothing compared to my getbiggers here that bench 3 times the amount but for myself that was amazing and very satisfying.

probably 90% of gymgoers never bench 100kg . probably even higher then that,  So good going starky!

I did 112.5kg for a few reps on close grip bench last tricep workout which Im very happy with! :)

and my friend did 160kg but lets ignore that lol.

lol yeah I have some friends too that would give me a weak smile at my febal bench press.
But its a victory for me - since I can clearly remember the days when I was not able to bench 100kg - I'm going to work most of the time on 100kg now until I rep 10 more or less easy and the shoot for 120 - my ultimate goal is 140kg which I seriously though was fully out of question without drugs.

I think 140 kg is within reach for 95 % of healthy males in their lifetime if hard work is put into it. The more I train the more I realise my limitations (I have set some crazy goals for myself in the past) but on the other hand I realise more and more my potential on the long run too.

I have never benched more than exactly 100 kg, but did recently 5 reps with 90 kg close gripped. This year I'm shooting for 100 kg military press, the bench is only assistance for it.  :)

benching high numbers or not really depends on how long your arms are as well.

to some extent yes,   Often only used as an excuse though.

Sean allan with probably the best chest in the amateur + ifbb , well in the world, comes to mind with his long ass arms and a super strong bencher

Having a good chest has NOTHING to do with being a strong bencher or not.

I did 100kg 5 reps today on the bench Full reps, I usually stop a little bit before it reaches the chest due to my shoulders, just wanted to make sure I could actually do it full reps lol.

oh!

Because ofc I should be able to bench 100 a few times if a do it a bunch of time half reps and 112.5 2 reps close grip bench, so it was a little lol.  ;D
