I'm looking for something under $500 American that can shoot nice quality video in a format that i don't have to be a hollywood editor to get video out of.  Mostly to shoot family stuff.

Man, Check out Cnet.com . I haven't been on that site lately but I always check it out when I buy cameras or electronics. They review most new cameras and make good recommendations and list the cheapest places to make a purchase.
