Worth while?

Long movie, you have to follow closely, and it can throw you for a loop quite a bit even when paying attention.

Worth it, sure. I would give it 8.5/10.

Boring, confusing and pretentious. Skip it.

Good movie, but I didn't like it, because it really wasn't very original.  With all the talk about the "shocking" ending, I could name a movie that used the same concept (but that would be a spoiler).

Why say it's a good movie if you didn't like it? ???

And I agree with you about the shocking ending- which I hadn't heard about. But yeah, once you see the movie you can't help but relate it to the other movie you're thinking of-and yes it's a complete giveaway if you cite the name of the film.

Because the acting was good, the story was good, the cinematography, etc. was good.  The ending ruined it for me.  I think most people who watch it would probably like it.

Although as I read my comments again, it does sound like I'm contradicting myself.

I enjoyed it except for the very end on the steps

Same. I thought it was excellent for the most part. Spent most of the movie trying to figure out what was going on and I enjoyed that.

Ditto ^
but the end did become predictable.  I had a hard time with some of the minor details, like that damn bandaid on his forehead for half the movie.  How the hell did it stay stuck through all that water? ::)

Beach and Young, please PM me with the movie you're thinking of.  I want to know if it's the same one I'm thinking of.

I thought it was a good film - I quite enjoyed the ending and didn't think it was predictable at all.

I wasn't very fond of it at all. Right from the getgo, there was something incongruous about the boatride.
it was so blatantly obviously shot in chromakey. There didn't seem to be much if any realism from the start.
over the years, I've come to enjoy Leonardo DiCaprios work and have found him fresh in every role he's taken. For some reason, I found his performance to be rather affected, and I couldn't help but see the kid in "What's eating Gilbert Grape". I found the story line hard to follow at times, and wasn't at all fond of the pacing. I was bored at certain points...almost nodding off. It only got really interesting during the conversation at the lighthouse. I knnow I need to see it again, ...but for the past week, I haven't been able to bring myself to watch it again. It seems like an overwhelmingly daunting thing to do.  :-\

***SPOILER ALERT BELOW***
Please mouse over if you want to see it.

Beach is absolutely correct about the ending. It did get a bit predictable towards the end.
As wonderful a director as Martin Scorcese is, ...for this particular genre... M. Night Shamalyan owns it.
