Title: Schmoe?

So I see the word "schmoe" posted quite frequently on this site, and I get that it's some sort of gay thing, and if it is in the title of any porn-related threads that it is just better not open it.  But what exactly does "schmoe" mean? is an acronym? is it short for a longer word? What exactly is it's defination? And please...a written definition will be just fine, no visual aids needed.
