So I found a months supply of free samples of Irwin Naturals Healthy Skin and Hair plus Nails thing that my mom had saved up and never took any. But the expiration date was Feb 2010 so I was wondering if they was still good to take. I know most companies put expiration dates on products for legality terms but I was wondering if this would be safe to take? I called the company and left a message and they called me back and said that the expiration date on the package mean the 28th of that month, so they technically got old Feb 28th, and that the company cant recommend taking them after the expiration date.
Any advice?

Vitamins gradually lose potency as they become exposed to sunlight, oxygen and moisture. While they may not become toxic or harmful, expired vitamins may lose their potency.
So,as long as they have been stored properly and you see no change in the general appearance, smell and consistency of the tablets/caplets, I would say that they are likely safe, especially since they have only expired recently. However, if you're worried, head down to your local pharmacy and ask the pharmacist for their opinion.
