thats the second Charger player signing with the jets... jets are becoming very strong in all 3 phases of the game... yeah yeah i know this belongs in the Sports section, but discuss
-
This isn't the old LT he won't break 1,000 yards running this season
-
Lawrence Taylor should stay retired, he's gotta be 50+ by now.

They cut Thomas Jones, who had a much better year than LT. If anything they stayed the same or got slightly worse in that regard.
The Jets biggest issue is their qb. Sanchez had a terrible year last year and might need another year to mature into the player that he can be.
-
I thought Lonnie Teper's playing days were over

Sanchez... rookie or not, he got them to the AFC championship... he's only gonna get better.
i think the Jets will be giving the Pats a run for their money

Jets will whip ass next year.

Sanchez threw 12 td's and 20 ints with the NFL's best running game to lean on. He did not get them to the AFCG. The colts pulled their starters and that's how the Jets got into the playoffs. The jets outstanding defense/running game is what carried them all year.
And yes, the Jets will give the Pats a run for their money next year.
As for Sanchez, he was terrible last year, but did show flashes of the tools needed to become a good NFL QB. You're right, he will get better.

Agreed. Sanchez was about as bad as you can be last year. 20 int's - 12 td's. Imagine if he didn't have that running game and awesome defense? That said, Sanchez did show flashes throughout the year, and with time, he should become a good NFL player.
-

sanchez most certainly got better towards the end of the season.
also, the bulk of his INT's came in the first half of the season.
the improvement is there

I agree with this. Sanchez did look better during the playoffs, but the reason he improved after the first half of the year, was due to the fact that Rex simplified the playbook and relied more on the running game. He still has a long way to go, but he has all the tools and he did improve as the year went on.

He also went deep into the playoffs and played well....That's like another whole season under his belt.
Sanchez comes into this year a better QB for it, performing under pressure raises your game

true jones was better although lt may have something to prove... good move getting him and sproles..
sanchez had that knee op at the end of last season so we'll see how he comes back from that...

true, when they had it in their control they lost to atl,,, that would have locked them in but they got the gift from the colts.
he showed flashes at the end true, he was more conservative which helped, he did make a few nice throws in the charger game tho

He's going to be a player. Just needs to take his lumps.

Sanchez is a rookie playing the toughest position in pro sports... What do you expect? He showed he is willing to work to get better which is all you can ask for. Jets should make the playoffs again next year.

true,at this point thomas jones is the better back....

yeah but that was in the first half of the season.. didnt he like throw 6 INTs in one game ?
yes, Colts let them get into playoffs, but they WON 2 games to get to the AFCG... they beat the bengals and chargers straight up
-
As a Chargers fan, I'm grateful for the great years LT had, but at this point Thomas Jones is a much better back. Not even close.
-
Now JETS have to get pass rusher and WR Marshall and they are set. Come get some!!!
-
Lawrence Taylor should stay retired, he's gotta be 50+ by now.
This.
-
The Jets will give green some running room and not wear him out over a long season. Being from San Diego I fucking hate this move, but I called this a month ago and said to everyone that the Jets will let Jones go and sign LT and sure enough they did.
-
they beat the bengals and chargers straight up
I wonder if the Chargers can finally see what we've always said about Norv Turner.
...
I think the AFC is definitely wide-open and that the Jets will be one of the favorites going into the season.

So faggy for that...They didnt want The Steelers in...Homos. Thats why they lost.
Sanchez needs to throw like 9 times a game and only on play action. He isnt patient enough...
In other news, We just signed Foote back to go along with our great LB corpse. Got both safties and the Dline is intact. If we can Pick up a couple of CBs and Big Stay out of Jail. BOOM...We are back you bitches and we will fully fuck shit up this season. Cant wait you homos

I'm a big Jets fan...but I'll be the first to say the Chargers basically gave us that game, their play calling made no fucking sense.... they had themselves third and long the whole game
-

I like most of the moves the Jets have mad over the last few years. That said, the LT move was pretty stupid if you ask me. You had a 1400 yard back in Thomas Jones...you cut him, then you sign an over the hill LT (who rushed for 700 yards last season) at roughly the same cost that KC picked up Jones for. Makes no sense.
-
Jets Rhymns with Mets and the Mets suck ...
hahahahaha

He did. 6 int's is 6 int's, you know? Look, I'm not saying that Sanchez is a bust, I'm saying that he's going to need more time to develope into a good player.
You're right about the Jets winning two games in the playoffs, but the fact of the matter is, the Jets were an 8-8 team who lucked into a playoff bid. There is nothing wrong with that, btw. They made the best of their chance and they almost went to the sb.
-

I think Jones was due a pretty big signing bonus...like 8 mil.
I also think LT has more in the tank than people think, you need a hole to run through.
I've never seen him getting hit behind the line of scrimmage as much as last year.
Either way Shonn Greene is the Jets no. 1 back this year and i predict he will emerge as an elite back...we are talking about backups
And let's not forget that Leon Washington is coming back, if he's still the same back the jets are STOCKED at RB
-
HMMMM..You do have a point
The only thing I can think of (other than the Jets fucking up on this one), is that the Jets cut Jones with the understanding that they would resign him after allowing him to test the free agent waters. Problem is, it looks like KC gave him what the Jets thought he'd never get on the open market. I have no clue why you'd cut a 1400 yard rusher and sign a guy who is on the back nine, who had half the production last year, and that has shown to be a crybaby when things don't go his way.
-

Maybe they didnt want the log Jam with Green. You know...kind of get Jones (who is over 30) out of the way and let him be your franchise back for a few years

My understanding is that KC agreed with Jones for a little over 300k more than what LT got. That's just what I heard on the FAN, I could be wrong.
I agree with you that Green is the clear number one, what I'm confused about is why the Jets would cut a guy who rushed for 1400 yards, worked perfect in their system; the locker room loved him, and who was willing to take a deal within 300k of what they singed an over the hill LT for.
-

BINGO.
Green is like a fucking bowling ball

That makes sense. Honestly, I don't know. You can't bat 1000 all the time..maybe the Jets made a mistake on this move. Who cares though, they've done far more right than wrong, recently.

Green is like a fucking bowling ball
Yeah he is good. Michael Turner is who he reminds me of

Makes total sense. But, from what I understand, Jones was a locker room guy who was loved by the team. I don't see him causing trouble over Green emerging. Greene should be the one backing up Jones. He did rush for 1400 yards last season. Why not milk Jones for another 1400 yards and keep the wear low on the future (Green)?
I don't get this one.

Right..Say Jones has lost a bit of a step just because he is over 30...im sure with that 0-line he could still get 1100 while greene is used for injuries and change of pace...kind of like Dolphins a couple of years ago with Brown and williams

What you say makes sense as well...i think it's just a case of the jets moving a guy who they think might be nearing the end sooner rather than later
It could blow up in their faces, nothing is 100%. but the flip side is they sign him, give him his bonus...and the wheels fall off. and now everyone is calling the jets assholes for signing him to another deal. The fact that they have green AND Washington coming back made it feasible for them to make the decision.
I think the LT signing is kind of an insurance policy
-
Jets baby will win the bowl next year. As in the year 1969.

yep... fresh backs thru the whole game, lots of help to the 2nd yr qb, good dfense... jets may be a contender once again...

Rex Ryan is borderline batshit crazy...I wouldn't doubt it one bit if LT wasn't brought in just because of his hatred of the Patriots...I'm not saying thats the only reason, but Ryan did give a game ball to Fireman ED(ghey)

true....and he might want to tone that shit down or he will lose his team.
On the other hand, the guy obviously knows his X's and O's...the Jets play sound ball and don't take a lot of penalties, which is the trademark of a well coached team.
-
Please also keep this in mind. JETS do have better offensive line than anybody else. So I hope to see some improvements from LT.
TJ was a beast.
-
Will LT be able to keep his mouth shut and produce? That is the question. We all saw how it turned out for Brett Favre

That's fine with me. If he'd like to replace his 1400 yard rusher (who was a team player) with LT (who rushed for 700 yards last year), and he'd like to bring in a guy who is a known crybaby/pussy/whiner; I'd say he's doing the Patriots a favor.

LT is on the back nine, and while he might be a nice option, he ain't going to rush for 1400 yards next year. Not to mention, he's shown that he can be a whiny little bitch when the going gets tough.

Patriots are FINALLY on the way down......8-8 next year. No defense, no rushing game...Tom Brady has lost his mojo, Welker is DONE, Moss is getting old...people ain't scared of them anymore

Care to bet on that? That's what they said in 2006.

Sure, and the Patriots have the harder schedule. It's a good bet, because the same thing was said in 2006, and the team that was going to rule the AFC was the chargers.
The Pats are not done.

Problem is the pats are the same team they were in 2006, minus a LOT of key players.Tom Brady isn't the same player, Moss is getting old and Welker won't be the same guy... Jarrod mayo is the only real new star the pats have developed.
For a LOOOOONG time the pats could do no wrong, like the Niners back in the day...but nothing lasts forever

I like the Jets. I think they are a great contrast to how the Patriots do things, and they show that their is more than one way to skin a cat.
I'll tell you why the Patriots are not done. Aside from the obvious (their system has set records for winning over the last decade) and they have the ability to completely retool their team in a short period of time. Look at the team in 2001...it was full of free agents and one of the worst teams to ever win the sb. Fast forward two years; they used the draft to create the 2003 - 2004 teams, which gave them back to back titles, and carried them all the way until 2006 (when they retooled again via free agency and the draft).
Here we are in 2010, coming of a winning season, with three second round draft choices, a first round pick, no salary cap and the cap space to add whomever they want. In 2011, they have the Raiders 1st rounder (which will be a top ten pick) + all their picks. They also have a very young defense with some very good players that have shown promise. Vince Wilfork (best NT in the game), Meriweather (pro bowl SS), Bodden (very good corner), Ty Warren (Very good DT) - etc. The problem last year was the lack of a pass rusher and their youth in the secondary.
As for Brady, if "losing his mojo" = the third best QB in the NFL last year + a pro bowl, I bet 29 other QB's would love to lose their mojo. Brady put up big numbers last year coming off major surgery. He's going to be better in 2010, bet on it. Did you look at his numbers last year? He was better than all but Manning and Brees.
The Patriots have everything they need to create another dominant team. You might want to wait for the draft before writing them off, they could pull a 2006 and add two all pro wr's via trade. Also, I'd argue the 2006 team was worse than what they have now.
As for not adding homegrown star players, I disagree. Last years draft produced 6 starters and the Patriots have a slew of young players who are emerging. They are a young team in need of a pass rusher. Without that, the defense couldn't function last year.
We'll see how it goes.
-

Jones is/was the better option. Jones + Green + Washington = better than Green + LT + Washington.
I think you missed the point. The Jets had to cut Jones and not pay the huge signing bonus. That was the sticking point and they cut ties. Jones was pissed and didn't want back. You don't need two downhill runners anyways. The change of pace with LT vs. Green will be awesome.
When green is on the field it will force linebackers in a bit leaving room for a roaming slot or tight end. LT is in it will force a linebacker to cheat to the outside allowing for an opening in the middle or hope that LT breaks through a gaping hole.
Put them both on the field, force 8 men up then throw the long ball to Edwards on 1-on-1 coverage. They have a lot more options.
If LT is just a dud and plays like shit and even with big holes gets caught than shame on the Jets, but if he can take advantage of the big holes and get close to 1000 yards with Green getting 1000+ this can be a killer duo.
We won't know for another 6 months anyways. Give it time.

My understanding is that the Chiefs singed Jones for close to what the Jets gave LT. There was no huge signing bonus given. Why didn't the Jets match the chiefs offer?
The bottom line is that the Jets cut a 1400 yard runner and signed a guy who has been on the back nine for two straight years. Offseason moves are all about getting better and this move did not make the Jets better, that's why I dont like the move.
That said, I like what the Jets have done over the course of the last two years. This move and drafting Gholston were mistakes, imo.

How do you feel about Cromartie. I think its a good pick up. He had a Bad year last year because they ran too much zone blitz.
But with rex locking up man...i think it playes into Cromarties Strengths as a big physical corner. Some corners go retarded when they have to play zone, but there are some who are awesome in man press..he is one of them. Him and REvis island will make a good team.
-
I like it. It was the best move of the offseason so far. Since Revis is a true lockdown corner, that allows Ryan to do what he does in regards to blitzes and what not. That said, Cro will allow even more flexability, because like Revis, he can be left 1 on 1 and do a good job.
-
Cromartie is not the same player he was 2 yrs ago. He has a lot of problems getting his hips turned since he came back from the injury, but paired with Revis he will be ok. Not a pro-bowl caliber guy, but a nice piece to the puzzle.
-

He is... Last year Chargers went to the Zone Blitz thing. and some corners have problems with Zone coverage for some reason. Ive seen it since college really. We had guys that were absolute retards when it came to runin zone and cover 2 sink and cover 2 press cover 2 trail etc..But those same corners love to jam and just man up and be on a WRs hip the whole route...That said, i think that AC is good in that respect and still got fluid hips....
But if he dosent, we will surely find out because aint no body throwin at revis
-
Cromartie is a bum who is going to get lit up. QBs will throw his way a lot since they will avoid Revis. Cro has a hip issue and is a bum.

i liked this acquisition too. good receiver, still has some gas in the tank. a good move by the jets imo to strengthen their receiving corps for the price with what is out there.
LT? damn. i think his days of running the a- gap are done. i figured he would have to go to a team with a strong o-line but didnt see the jets doing this. his heart isn't in it anymore. how do i know? last year peterson called him out on his lessinging ability to shoot the gap, and LT didn't step up. i think a sign that his days were was the switch in short yardage, goal line situations. you knew at that point norv turner had lost faith in LT's abilities too.

Cromartie is fucked up, not as far as his goes, but his personal life.

actually my bad:
The losses continue to pile up for one San Diego Charger. An NFL arbitrator ruled that San Diego Chargers cornerback Antonio Cromartie owes Fletcher roughly $32,000 in fees. Cromartie has suggested that there are financial issues stemming from child support. Cromartie has at least seven children with six different women in five different states.

in the same vein rex ryan had a gastric band implanted, so jets fans should see much less of him next year.

He is a fat bastard.
I'm just happy the jets are a good, solid team for a change and are making pro-active moves to improve. they aren't the fucking gang that couldn't do anything right if their lives depended on it anymore
