Title: Pay Attention to the Negative Portion of the Repition for Optimal Muscle Gains
Post by: HugeRipped on March 15, 2010, 08:37:08 PM
Most bodybuilders, during resistance training, focus more on pushing the weight up (or pulling it) then the negative portion of the repitition. They let the weight bounce off their chest during bench presses or let the bar swing down during barbell rows. It is important to remember that a greater percentage of microtears occur on the muscle fascia during the negative portion of the repitition. This is because the muscle is stronger and can handle greater weight (leading to more microtears and thus growth) in a concentric to eccentric movement. For optimal muscle gains, control the weight throughout all portions of the repitition, from the negative point as the muscle shifts from concentric contraction to eccentricity. I would also recommend, for maximum muscle fiber recruitment, to focus on squeeze the muscle at the peak of the concentric portion of the movement for 2-5 seconds, and then enter the negative portion of the repititon. If you are not used to this type of slow, deliberate training focusing on muscle fiber recruitment, prepare for lactic acid buildup during the first few weeks. Remember, though, bodybuilding is about discipline and sacrifice and the pain will diminish but the lean muscle will stay.

How much discipline and sacrifice have you gone through to attain such an epic physique, SkinnyFat?

I have been training for 7 years, although i have focused mainly on bodybuilding for the last 2-3. I understand you are trying to take a sarcastic jab at me but it does not bother me. You dont display your own physique in your profile picture so you are most likely some type of internet warrior who judges the bodies of others yet has never lifted weights before. I guarantee that if you got down to my level of bodyfat and took a picture of yourself without overhead lighting doing a front double biceps with stomach vaccuum like my image, i would make you look like a child. Hide behind your monitor all you like, it does not phase me since i have a career, a masters degree and I know i have built an impressive body that I have worked hard for.

STFU schmoe.  Even Vince G makes you look like a joke.  Your bodyfat percentage is likely around 25%.  Why not just admit you came here to try to pick up young bodybuilders while pretending to be a "guru."  You = Outed.

I am displaying it in my profile picture. That is current as of 3 weeks ago. Its pathetic to me that you guys, all of whom clearly lack a college let alone post graduate education, assault and debase my physique with childish sarcasm clearly entrenched in jealousy. None of you have profile pictures of your bodies on a bodybuilding forum? Sad, and completely obvious that you dont even work out. I am a personal trainer and people have asked me on the street and at the gym for tips on getting bigger muscles so obviously I am doing something right and my body speaks for itself. Keep hiding behind your internet personas, your jealous debasing of my body only makes it painfully obvious how weak and small you all are.

What about the other portion of the rep that is not negative nor positive?

Yet another exposure of your ignorance to exercise science and human physiology. You think that my serratus and some of my intercoastals and abdominals would be visible while performing a stomach vaccuum at 25 percent bodyfat? Get real, better yet get an education. I am at most at 12 percent bodyfat, pretty impressive I think given my status as a natural bodybuilder and the size of my arms, calves and chest. Don't forget, I'm pulling off this pose without overhead lighting, im sure you think you look huge in the gym locker room mirrors, but try my pose with my lighting, youll look like a mess next to me.

If that is you...and you are NOT a gimmick, both of which are highly unlikely......you look like you have never trained a day in your life.

we both know that's not true...but you are funny, in a kind of inept, bumbling way.

prepare for lactic acid buildup during the first few weeks.

Lactic acid is usually back to pre-training levels within 60 minutes after training.  Muscle soreness is NOT a result of lactic acid.  Also, I do not lack a college education.  I am a doctor....I have been bodybuilding for 22+ years....and am a WNBF (read : pro natural) bodybuilder.  So, go fuck yourself with the comments you are making regarding some of us.  I find it laughable that you spout off that you have a masters education and have only reached the status of "personal trainer", a career where literally NO DEGREE is required.

I have no problem debating you on any level....

All I see are cankles, skin, bone, and pockets of adipose tissue.  I'm sure what's behind the blacked out face is even worse.

Never once did I say lactic acid buildup lead to soreness, I learned that it didnt 6+ years ago. Should I be impressed that you claim to be a doctor over the internet while you debase my physique, characteristic of a jealous child with a subpar body? Your grammar is laughable at best and your dialect insinuates that you are most likely a teenager that gets his kicks by flaming others on an internet forum. I am not just a "personal trainer" I am a CPT which means I am nationally certified in personal training, its not just as easy as walking into the door of any commercial gym and getting hired. I have had to take exams and study hard to earn my certification to work and I need to be re-certified every 2 years. So feel free to make up obvious lies on an internet forum under some guise created to assault the physiques of those that actually bodybuild, you are only wasting your own time that could be better spent getting yourself in shape. I can bench press 315 raw and naturally, I doubt you can even put up 1/3 of that let alone match my body in the same pose/same bodyfat/same lighting. Good luck getting your physique up to par, let me know when you get in shape and we can talk.

Who's gimmick is this?

Writing is structurally sound. Yet repetitive, indicating consistent gimmickery but lacking in depth and breadth.

Is it Adonis? Maybe AXA Chaotic back for another kick? Bobs, is that you? I'm struggling here...

Adonis crossed my mind too

I find your inability to confront my challenge in an honorable manner laughable. I said that at my level of bodyfat, with the same lighting you would not be able to pull off the same pose of mine. Instead, you google image search a picture of a contest bodybuilder with tanning oil and overhead lighting. Pathetic and laughable.

Are you bragging that your bodyfat is so high you walk around shirtless without any visible abdominals, not even a visible adonis belt (usually visible in men taller than 5'9'' until about 22 percent bodyfat)? Or perhaps you are bragging that your medial deltoids and trapezius are completely atrophied, I can only assume as a function of lazy training? Please, put your shirt back on, re-evaluate your nutrition protocol and drop 50lbs of bodyfat before the people around you vomit. I guarantee that without overhead lighting, without tanning oil and minus 50lbs of fat you would look like a child.

::)  Simply look at my contest pic...and your pic...you weep at night knowing that your physique is that of a middle aged woman.  When you want to learn something about training...send me a PM..otherwise hit the gym and maybe think about eating something other than a cock for your protein.
