Did someone have to be wealthy to own a slave? (no racist)
Would the owner of 200 acres of land be wealthy, or was that amount of land ownership similar to our current middle class?

People were short, and they used corncobs to wipe their asses. In short, colonial America sucked, even whores.

I don't know about colonial times, but some Google-fu revealed this:
In 1860 the average price for a slave was $450. This value inflates to over $10,000 in 2009 dollars.

mos to what you read about colonial america in history books is total bullshit..........like our "honorable struggle from British independence"
there was no honor involved what-so-ever, the "revolution" was started by a bunch of wealthy, greedy merchants who wanted to lower their taxes
so like in every other war......the rich and powerful fabricate a story and provide a false rallying cry to the proletariat and send them off to die, while the wealthy stay safe and comfortable in their homes
not that this has anything to do with what your asking

What's wrong with that? Ben Franklin and the rest of them were wealthy cause they were smart as fuck, why should they have to send their hard earned money to some smelly English bastard across the ocean?

In colonial America you could travel out west and stake a claim to like thousands of acres in many places. Land ownership was nothing. And slaves were owned by middle class people and farmers. Land and slaves weren't just for the rich.
-
if you travelled too far west the indians wouldn't take kindly to you.
btw who the hell comes on Getbig to ask questions about colonial america?

The problem is keeping the land and slaves and turning a profit. We as Americans don't know jack really of colonial America or the antebellum South and slavery. It was a lifestyle, just as one is used to going to work, riding the bus, etc, people were used to Slavery and the constructs of that system.
