One of the reasons Magic Johnson doesn't have AIDS yet because of the effectiveness of today's anti viral drugs. that and the variable incubation period of HIV to AIDS.
for many years now medications in western societies have delayed the onset of AIDS in HIV infected people.
the catch being twofold:
1. the HIV virus mutates very quickly (the protein coat is always mutating) so this often means that drugs used to stop the binding of HIV and immune response cells can stop working due to the mutation
and
2. the 'cocktail' of drugs used to delay this onset costs a fortune per month. literally. something like 10-12K per month I have heard. maybe more. Magic Johnson of course is rich.
thats why in third world countries without access to such meds AIDS is still very much an eventual death sentence.

The risk of getting HIV if you're a guy having normal intercourse with a woman is something like 1/200 - 1/300.
Meaning: out of 200 to 300 cases, 1 would result in transmission. Factors are duration of intercourse, thrusting speed/force, whether or not the woman has other STDs (because this increases virus concentration in vaginal fluids, perhaps?), and probably a bunch of other things.
But the bottom line is, that for a man to contract HIV through one single act of sex with a woman is very unlikely.
Wikipedia has even lower numbers than the ones I remember. Wikipedia list 5 cases of out 10 000 exposures to an HIV source, woman positive, man exposed, vaginal sex.
"impossible" is the wrong word to use! That's the whole point, and the potency of HIV. The risk of so low, but sex is so common, that it is bound to spread eventually. As long as there is a slow but steady increase in numbers of exposures, the virus is "winning". So while the risk of spreading HIV from a woman to a man is only 1/300, or even lower, a woman'll have more than 300 acts of intercourse...virus spread.

the reason that women with other STD's have a higher risk is because of two reasons.
1 is medical
the other is behavioral.
having other STD's can mean sores which can be open which provides direct route of transmission of infected fluid directly into the bloodstream of the women.
the other risk, is from what I understand, people that already have STD's are more likely to have multiple partners (perhaps how they got the STD in the first place?) and that puts them at higher risk.

That's really not how it works. You're most likely not going to get aids hitting it, even if you don't wear protection. The risk of transmission through intercourse is extremely low, especially female-to-male. This is taken from a website:

Of the 124 couples that consistently used condoms, none of the HIV-negative partners were infected.
