Title: Do people actually buy into the contrived paradigm of democrat vs. republican?
Post by: Deicide on March 25, 2010, 07:43:49 PM
I have often wondered this seeing as how they differ little from each other on substantial issues.

The real question I have to pose is if people really believe they are that different...or they just go along with it for some obscure reason....

 ???

Two party one headed monster!

Indeed, but here we have people who like to peddle the idea that they are substantially different.

Of course we're going to have every jerk off say that they don't buy into it when their posting history says otherwise. I can think of a very small handful of people that post on here that don't fall into the "right wing or left wing homo" mentality.

Nope. My viewpoints differ between liberal and conservative depending on the issue and my posting history would support that. I'd say I'm one of the few on here that doesn't espouse all the qualities of one of the parties they apparently "don't buy into".

I think I would agree. You seem to be centrist or some such.

Ummmmm, YES becuase they ARE substantially different. And you have to be a moron not to see otherwise. I might give you that they are somewhat more similar on corruption issues, but policy wise??? You have got to be joking. Now, Do Republicans have more similarities to Democrats than I would like? Ofcourse. Espeacially Hoover Republicans like John McCain and Bob Dole and the First Goerge Bush (and to some extent the second George Bush). I would give Republicans a failing grade of 59 and Democrats a failing grade of 0. But if voters dont give Republicans back control of both Houses of Congress this fall, then this country deserves everthing it gets. BUt even on corruption issues Im not so sure they are that similar. Using reconciliation to pass the biggest entitlement for 1/6 of the economy AFTER the bluest state voted a Republican in to block it with a filibuster is a new low that the Repubilcans never stooped down to.

that's being nice considering he didn't come remotely close to answering your question.

How so, bright spot?

It's pretty obvious from reading this board that the majority of people on here buy into it, and that includes you.  :D

Since you seem to be stolling back into this board with a holier-than-thou attitude, after a year in some Suicide Watch Psych Ward...how would you exercise your "superior knowledge" of American politics, divorcing yourself from the two party system yet remaining actively engaged?

There may be little differences ibn what the parties do, but there are VAST & HUGE differences in what the supporters and voters in each party want.
