Why is GSP afraid to move up in weight and fight at 185lbs, I mean shows he is a bully that likes to beat up on smaller fighters, BJ moved up to fight him, Couture has moved up and down, Silva has moved up for a challenge, not GSP and won't even consider it
-
He's a natural welterweight who is unbeatable. Why would he taint his legacy by jumping around weight classes just for the hell of it? Plus, there are still a lot of legit guys at 170.
I think a fight between him and Anderson Silva is inevitable though. Once Silva walks through Damian Maia and manhandles Chael Sonnen or whoever else, I think a superfight between the two of them will materialize. The winner of that fight is going to be the undisputed p4p best in the world. If Silva wins, I think he will probably retire. If GSP wins I think there will be a rematch.

I agree with most of this except I think anderson silva only has 2 fights left on his contract and I see him getting beat by vitor belfort when/if they fight....which may screw up a possible GSP matchup...

Scared? I don't think so. I think he wants to break the most title defenses in the UFC before messing around with moving up. He's also be pretty small at 185. In fact, he's not that big for 170.
-
i dont think gsp is scared, but he is very boring to watch. he just blankets his opponents ala jake shields.
-
I'm not happy with this last fight either. GSP is my favorite fighter, but I believe he has become ultra cautious. Speaking of Shields, that would be a great matchup for GSP. I think we would see GSP go back to his stand up and demolish Jake just as he did to Hughes....

true..he wasn't that big in size compared to hardy. before i get bashed.i know gsp is ripped but he would have to gain alot of muscle to fight at 185..i give him credit though he is probably the best athlete the ufc has

he was indeed very cautious and it made for somewhat of a boring fight but i think that the serra fight is still in the back of his mind

Such as...?

He walks around at 195, so he's pretty big [muscular] for 170.
GSP should compete at 185, as there are no interesting fights for him at welterweight. I think he is a bit of a pussy in that regard.
-
I don't think he is scared. There really is no one left for him at 170, though. I would like to see BJ move up, GSP move up, Anderson move up. Vitor could beat Anderson......
Shields would be on his back, GSP would not attempt to pass and defend and GNP to a decision, or GSP would beat him on his feet, once Shields gets down on the cards after being taken down at will by the end of the third.

As much as like GSP I think Anderson Silva would beat him and Vitor

Considering he can't finish guys at 170 (his last 3-4 fights have all gone to decision) why would he move up to 185?!! to get knocked out !??! he's being cautious for a reason he has not knockout power and that hurts him, if it wasn't for his amazing wrestling and game planning he'd be gone a long long time ago..
-
I wouldn't call GSP a huge welterweight. There are alot of WW's that are cuttin for 200lbs. and I'd say he is the average build of a WW.
-
Well, Anderson is saying he will move down to 170 to fight GSP, so if he wasn't thinking about a SUPERFIGHT, Ed Soares, Anderson et is.

LOL. I saw a few quotes from Andersen about that. I bet they're just trying to get a rise out of GSP to make the fight happen.

Most logical post for this topic.
I love GSP attitude but he lost a little respect from me when he didn't break Hardy's arm.

LOL, I think he needs a better striking/boxing coach, all the other aspects of his game are airtight... grappling, wrestling, jiu jitsu, etc. just not striking..or at least power or effective striking.

Very true. But my opinion that is something that he is never going to get better at. Hope one day he proves me wrong though. :-\

I think GSP has good striking, he just goes with what he KNOWS he is better at against his opponents. I think after the Serra KO, GSP is afraid of getting KO'd. He knows that is the ONLY way he can be beat.
-
He can strike if he needs to strike, but it's not the best aspect of his game. All fighters have something they are better/ worse at. I'm sure GSP knows that this is the most deficient area of his aresenal. He has two options--- Step up his striking, or continue to dominate in all other areas to the point that he doesn't have to rely on his striking.
Either way, I dont see him losing another fight at WW. If he does move up to 185, he will 110% have to step up his strikes. GSP probably wont be able to muscle around guys like Sonnen, Marquadt, Silva, Anderson, etc.
I would love to see GSP at 185 against Bisping. That's one dude that I think GSP could destroy even if he fought at 170 and Bisping fought at 185.
-
There's a lot of interesting fights for GSP at 185. I think there's a good change we'll see him test the waters there this year.
-
I just hope GSP doesn't pull a Fedor and dodge the fights people want to see ;D
Seriously though, Silva is showing that he is ready to drop weight or do whatever he has to do to make this fight happen.
We are one step closer!
