Title: Tony Nowak - RIP
Post by: Chick on April 07, 2010, 01:13:23 PM
Sad news to the veteran fans of Bodybuilding, our good friend Tony Nowak (the Jacket guy) passed away last night while on vacation in Italy...Tony has been a staple at the Arnold and Olympia for many, many years...

Without fail, Tony would always seek me out at the shows and present me a custom jacket with my name embroidered in the lining...I'll miss his always smiling face at the shows...

My condolences to his family, the BB community will miss a great friend

Wow that is too bad.  He was someone I saw almost everyday for a few years while training at the original World Gym.  he was like the head of security at the gym and Joe Gold's guardian.  he made sure nothing happened at the gym.  I will never forget his security tactics when photographers tried to take photos in the gym.  He was also the resident "pharmacist" along with Bugsy if you know what I mean.  Last time I saw him was the ASC in 2004 I think.  We talked for awhile.  He made absolutely the best jackets you can possibly get.  he lived at the old site of World's didn't he at one time.  To bad really nice guy

Keith, Didn't you write on here one time that you seen Big Tony toss a photographer down a flight of stairs or something along those lines?

Yea that was one of the first time I saw him.  When I first saw him I went and told my friend I met John Matuszak from the Raiders.  For some reason thats who I thought he was when I first met him.

Tony and Ken Waller used to hang out at nightclubs and drink like fish. They had reps of being real bad asses but always were cool to me and bought me drinks. They got banned from the Swedish Inn Smorgasbord on Lincoln Blvd. in Westchester, CA (very close to Loyola Marymount University) for eating too much chicken. Tony was a good guy. RIP

His jackets are very well made and High Quality.  I know he was reproducing the Bates style Terminator Jacket.  Sucks because I was on his site about a month ago ready to buy one.

lol, demeaning his death in one post and praising his craftmanship in the next. classic true adonis :)
Hey, I take a light-hearted approach to death.  Its no big deal.  We all die.  Its only our selfish interest, for whatever reason, that wants someone back when they die.  Or, sometimes when others ask cause of death, they want to compare the incident to their own life and see if they can avoid a similar fate by doing the opposite.

Its only natural.  No biggie.

What are there, a bunch of American Indians on this board?

"Today is a good day to die"

Most folks aren't prepared and spend a lot of time worrying about its uncertainty. This could easily become a thread on philosophy. Who here thinks today is a good day to die? Do you think about the probablility every time you jump in your car and head down the freeway? Howbout when you fly?

Hardasses are everywhere.

I didn't mean I want to die. I don't want to. But it will happen. It's guaranteed and I never know when it will happen. So it's best to be prepared by thinking about it. And it's not so bad. I get high as fuck and think about death and i've realised it's more about how it happens that 'scares' me. I don't believe in heaven butr I believe there is some sort of after life. Settle down guy. It's okay.

For those of you who didnt know who Tony was, "Tony made the official jackets for the Arnold Classic each year. Tony’s jackets are individually built, never mass produced and use top quality materials. All Tony’s jackets are made in-house in the European tradition he’s used for so many years. You can wear the same Tony Nowak Original jacket that Arnold wears!"   He will be missed.

The funeral for Tony was on Saturday - a number of people went. Arnold spoke there.

Nowak, Tony
June 13, 1949 - April 6, 2010

Tony Nowak, 60, owner of a garment manufacturing company specializing in original one-of-a-kind leather jackets for the film industry, died April 6, 2010. Originally from Poznan, Poland, Nowak was a long-time resident of Pacific Palisades with his wife of 18 years, Maria Barrie, and their sons Enzo Nowak, and Riley Barrie.

Described as larger than life by all who met him, Nowak had limitless passion for his family, his friends, and his adopted America. His sense of humor and sense of fun were boundless. He lived this motto: Be Healthy, Be Happy, Be Honest, Be Humble, Be Respectful, Be Yourself, and Enjoy Life.
Nowak's intense faith was evidenced in his daily life and he was an active member of St. Monica's Parish in Santa Monica. Physical fitness also played a large part in Nowak's life and some of his longtime friendships began in local gyms.

Nowak emigrated from Poland to Austria with his mother and sister in 1967 where he was an honor student and completed studies at Vienna Business School. He moved to California in the early 1970s. Opening his company in El Segundo, Nowak created works of art in leather. The exceptional quality of his workmanship was quickly noticed by the bodybuilding community and the film industry where his legacy will live on, seen in hundreds of films featuring his creations.

In addition to his immediate family, Nowak is survived by his sister, Maggie Cherwick, her husband Johnny and their two children Jessica and Tony, his brother Chris Nowak and his two sons Martin and Sebastian, and many extended family members in Poland and England.

Memorial services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 17th, 2010 at: St. Monica's Catholic Church, 725 California Street, Santa Monica, California 90403

Hello Everyone,

My name is Jessica Cherwick (for those who attend the Arnold Classic may know my dad
Johnny Cherwick) and Tony Nowak was my uncle, my godfather, my role model, my friend, and
the strength for my family.

I want to thank you all for what you all have been saying about our Tony. It is a
shocking and tragic moment in all of our lives, but thank you for expressing your happy
memories about how he has made a difference in your life.

My uncle will always mean the world to me. He has taught me so many things in life and he
is the reason for how I am and who I am. I love him so much. He is the most generous,
strong, outgoing, loving, determined, hard working, and comical man who was filled with
such incredible wisdom. I am so lucky to have been so close to someone so amazing in my
life and I will continue to keep his spirit alive through my actions.

I am grateful for his positive presence in my life and it brings tears to my eyes to see
how many other lives he has touched. Thank you for sharing. It really helps.

Please say a prayer for him and our family and if anyone would like to share some stories
about him with me, I would appreciate that.

From my family and myself, we thank you kindly.

I want to leave you with something he wrote in my graduation card in November 2009.

"Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have always imagined."

Thank you.
