Good for her. She gets it. A day late, but at least she understands the way things should be.
Bristol Palin tells teens: 'Pregnancy can wait'
Associated Press
NEW YORK — Bristol Palin says that if girls knew how tough it was to be a mom, they'd think twice about having sex.
The 19-year-old daughter of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin says she has chosen to practice abstinence herself, until marriage.
Bristol Palin, who once said it was unrealistic to ask young people to abstain from sex, said in an interview with The Associated Press that "it's realistic to ask myself that, because I know I'm not going to until I'm married."
Palin gave birth to a son, Tripp, in December 2008 and says she "wasn't prepared at all" for the dramatic changes in her life since then.
"I don't think anyone realizes how difficult it really is until you actually have a screaming baby in your arms and you're up all night," said Palin.
"It changes literally every aspect of your life, and if girls realized how hard it was to be a teen mom, they would think twice about having sex without the proper education and proper knowledge."
Birth rates for teen mothers dropped 2 percent in 2008 after an increase from 2005 to 2007 according to a numbers released yesterday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Palin hopes to help the decline continue by educating her peers. Last year, she was named an ambassador for The Candie's Foundation, a division of the apparel brand Candie's, which has been raising awareness about teen pregnancy since 2001. She'll appear in a new public service announcement called "Pause Before You Play."
Neil Cole, founder of The Candie's Foundation, says it was a no-brainer to tap Palin to help bring awareness to the problem of teen pregnancy: "Bristol comes from a high-profile family and it's amazing the amount of coverage she has gotten because of this issue."
Palin also recently taped a cameo on "The Secret Life of the American Teenager," about a high school student who unexpectedly got pregnant and is now a young mom.
In the interview, Palin said she works full-time and takes night classes when she can. Sleeping in and hanging out with friends like other teens? Such downtime is a thing of the past.
She credits her family for helping her get through.
"I'm very blessed to have an extremely supportive family and just a good support system, which other girls out there — most of them — don't have," she said.
Despite the challenges of being a teen mom, Palin hopes to have more kids.
"Eventually," she said. "Long down the road, though."

there's no mention of governments role in that article and abstinence programs funded by our tax dollars are a complete failure and total waste of money. We should get our money back on whatever abstinence program that Bristol was in.

NEW YORK - Bristol Palin says that if girls knew how tough it was to be a mom, they'd think twice about having sex.
The 19-year-old daughter of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin says she has chosen to practice abstinence herself, until marriage. bwahahaha. I think the horse already left that barn.
Bristol Palin, who once said it was unrealistic to ask young people to abstain from sex, said in an interview with The Associated Press that it's realistic for her personally.

Palin gave birth to a son, Tripp, in December 2008 and says she "wasn't prepared at all" for the dramatic changes in her life since then. bwahahaha. oh ya... that little bundle of joy she calls Tripp is proof positive just how realistic a course abstinence was for her.

Based on what, Bristol realizing that she made a major mistake and that, had she to do over again, she would pick abstinence?
Obviously, neither she nor that goof who fathered her child use any contraception. There are plenty of girls who go to public schools, where "comprehensive" sex education is taught. But, they get knocked up, anyway.
Yet for some reason, I don't hear any folks like you, blubbering about how unrealistic condom-pushing "comprehensive" sex education is.
But, just for argument's sake:
'Groundbreaking' abstinence study should change federal policy, some say
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)--Conservative groups are urging the Obama administration and Democratic leaders to take a second look at abstinence education after a federally funded landmark study showed that such programs were more successful than comprehensive sex education in stopping teen sex.
The study, sponsored by the National Institute of Mental Health and published in the February journal of the Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine, should be a game-changer in the debate over teens and sex, the groups say.
It followed 662 African American sixth and seventh graders in urban middle schools over two years and found that 33.5 percent of those in programs promoting only abstinence had had sex by the end of the 24 months, compared to 48.5 percent of teens in a control group. The other two programs studied -- one focusing only on safer sex and the other mixing an abstinence message with a safer sex message -- did about as well as the control group in stopping teen sex.....
The study found that teens who go through abstinence education and who do have sex are no less likely to use condoms than those in the other programs. That finding counters an often-made objection by liberals who argue that abstinence education reduces condom use.
Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, called the study "groundbreaking" and said it is "unfortunate that this Congress and administration has zeroed out abstinence education" in favor of "sex-ed programs that advocate high-risk sexual behavior."
"Despite an enormous amount of money going to comprehensive sex-ed programs dating much earlier than abstinence education programs, recent CDC data show that an alarming 40 percent of teen girls who are sexually active are infected with an STD," Perkins said in a statement. "The government does not promote drug use or underage drinking, and it should not promote high-risk sexual behavior either. The evidence shows clearly that sexual abstinence is the healthiest behavior for youth."

I wouldn't go that far. But, it seems that some liberals can't quite grasp that the PRIMARY purpose of sex is PROCREATION.
Condoms are called contraceptives for a reason. Birth-control pills are called that for a reason: To stop what's supposed to happen when you have sex on a regular basis, PREGNANCY!!
It doesn't dawn on them that, if teens cease with the screwing, they don't get knocked up. I only know of one teen girl, who got pregnant without having sex (and that happened about two millenia ago).

condoms are also known as prophylactic
if you don't the definition then go look it up
btw - since people often (if the the great majority of the time) have sex with no intention of procreation one could easiy argue the the real primary purpose is pleasure and not pro-creation
If Palin's dopey daughter had just used a condom when she was having sex she wouldn't be in this situation.
now - would you like to see al the studies that show what an abject failure abstinence ONLY programs are?

But, one can't complain about pregnancy occuring, because that's what sex was designed to do. Having sex, then acting shocked when you get knocked up, makes no sense.

If she's kept her legs closed, she wouldn't be in this situation, either.
Again, plenty of girls get the "comprehensive" sex education but get knocked up, anyway. By that logic, those programs are "abject failure".

again - one could easily argue that sex was "designed" (if one believes in such things) first for pleasure. Maybe the designer realized that in order to get people to procreate there needed to be a strong desire to seek pleasure. Think about yourself to just a moment. When you started getting hot for girls was your motivation to get them pregnant or to get your rocks off or maybe to try to give the girl some pleasure too?

yeah but in spite of all that abstinance only training she still failed and for some reason was too dumb to take the extra 5 seconds to use a condom (or maybe s
no one said that comprehensive sex education was foolproof but it's more effective than simplistic ONLY abstinence training

The process is pleasurable, by design as well. "Be fruitful and multiply", as it were. The desire DRIVES the purpose.

And despite all that "comprehensive" training, she didn't use it (neither did ol' Levi) and she got pregnant.
Engaging in the reproductive process and acting shocked when you get pregnant makes no sense.
