For a boxing training program would you implement squats and heavy leg presses?
Or just stick to plyometrics exercises?
Im not heavy btw, I fight in the 140lbs weight class
-
as long as you just get stronger and dont add too much mass because you'll add lbs. and change your class
-
Not sure but I've never seen an MMA fighter without stick legs.
-
I would do some, but not focus on it too much.
-
I wouldn't volunteer to get kicked by an MMA fighter with stick legs anytime soon.

I never go past 315 on the squat if I were to go heavy and that is rare boxing and thai boxing...if I do I don't spar for a day or so after b/c my legs feel heavy as hell afterwards.
after jogging miles, jumping ropes, polys, high reps low weights, sparring, bag work..etc,etc....you simply don't have the leg strength to go heavy imo. If you do...then next day or so you need to limit movement because your legs won't be there imo

Maybe I don't understand the question.
You can heavy squat and box , I don't see the problem. (I personally wouldn't do it)
Will heavy squat improve your boxing skills or punching power ,no it won't.

Come to think of it I've never seen any of the shadow boxing, tapout bad asses in my gym actually do a set of squats.

If you're a boxer, why don't you just ask your trainer what he thinks?
Or failing that, I'd go on the sherdog.com or rossboxing.com forums - both have a lot of good advice about strengthening programmes for fighters.

Tyson Griffin has monster legs.
-
Boxers don't train legs with weights because they need to make weight.
Mike Tyson had legs and was available to channel his power from them.
So I guess it depends.

Look at a guy with huge quads? They waddle? It doesn't make for agility and functional ability. In MMA if your fighting style is more take down and ground and pound then it doesn't matter. But if you want to move like GSP then forget it. A good boxer needs good foot work. Huge thighs are not going to make it easier.

Only Butterbean trains legs.

Done a fair bit of boxing in my time...im not a frikkin champ or anything, but my trainer specifically said to me, keep your legs small but powerful. This was a problem since i have big legs from being a rugby player. The way we trained legs was all plyometrics, no squats, extensions or even calf raises...all explosive power training using your own body as the resistance to build up the power. Damn I never want to go back there, used to throw up after every session :-X
