Enjoy... From Car and driver
-
Even though they called the Vette the winner, they didn't measure one big difference, the awe factor. People always come over to check out a Viper, not so much on a Vette. A little trick, count on 1 hand over the next 3 months how many times you see a different Viper. Now, use both hands and feet and count how many Vettes you see in a week. The Viper just has that wow factor, that the Vette doesn't have(with the exception of the new ZR1).
-
Quite true, Lamey
here is two Aussies (I think they are Aussies) in Cali one in Ferrari F355, another a 1st Gen Vipet. Dude in Viper goes over cliff
-
There is nothing like a C5 Z06, C6 Z06 or a ZR1.
All the rest suck ass. Fuck with me and my Z and you will wish you had stayed home instead of nursing your newly shredded ass in embarrassment. Sad but true.

I know the VIPER has gotten a lot of criticism for things like being incredibly uncomfortable inside, but that has always been one of my dream cars, and with a V10 and an 80,000 Dollar price tag, that ain't that bad in comparison to other supercars!
AMERICAN BEAUTY!

i haven't driven the Z06 but the C6 isn't behind the Viper by much and a hell of a lot smoother.

The standard C6 which you probably have has probably eclispe the 1st gen Viper in driveability, straightline speed and 0-60, 0-100 and 100-0 times and lateral grip. Especially if it is the Gran Sport Vette.
Nobody commented on dude falling off a cliff in the Viper?

Entry level Ferrari based on ancient 348 design and still the Viper falls off the road. ;D
The Preaident of Ferrari at the time of the 348, said that was the worst Ferrari ever, so they revamped the car, giving the engine a 3.5 liter 5 valve per cylinder engine, advanced for the time aero, and I think the basically resigned the chassis, I don't know. It still had the same wedge shape, as all Ferrari's had for the time. But it was smoother and rounder, much more sculpted. It bridged late 90s. Tech with the far more beautiful 360 Modena, which in my eyes is the most sensual of any current V8 design, save the current 458.

360 Modena gets me excited ;D

Yes, I have the Forza Magazine in which they showed the various sketches for it, man, some of the designs that were rejected were off the meter, but I think that they were incorporated in the 430 design.

true with "vette"
but Z06 is a different story....i see them more often than a viper, but....and Z06 looks much different than the plain C6
vipers are tanks, i would much rather have a Z06, no quetions...the Z06 is probably the best all around sports car for
the price
dodge sucks ass anyways....every dodge you see over 10 years old is a pile of shit

ferraris and lambos are cool, but the price tag + all the bullshit upkeep, repairs, other expenses make them
a waste....those italian cars need so much constant tweeking and snap the clutch too many times and shit
breaks so easy
you can rip around in a vette year after year with no problems

I agree with everything you said. I always turn my head twice when I see a Viper. when it comes to style, the Viper has always been the winner. Dodge has made it very exclusive. the only thing is that it cost to maintain the Viper. you rarely see it in the street. think about it. you'll save way more money on Gas with the Vette and the Viper is not really a Practical car. I heard words that Dodge was gonna Discontinue the Viper, but that was 3yrs ago. the 2010 Viper still kicks ass

That's why you get a Porsche, problem solved! Prestige, elegance, speed, comfort, quality, all in one!

saved and invested every cent since literally pre-teens til late 30's. by then things had multiplied to a very comfortable level.
by the way - buy all the silver you can afford!!
-
Still take my unrestricted Hayabusa over a vette anyday. Viper is a sexy looking car though...gotta admit.

Did you read any books about investments and stock markets or did you just follow your intuition? I'm also trying to invest some money, but I'm not sure where... reading financial news sites and following some stocks still leaves me uncertain...

yes. i had an affinity to investing all my life. before leaving highschool i was selling kids dirtbikes on payment plans and buying stocks. no one i knew did this. my folks worked hard but did not invest or talk about money.
in the late nineties i started reading every thing about Rich Dad Poor Dad line of books. following his real estate advise worked incredible for me.
the best investment of our life time is about to take off. silver will literally grow to insane value. there are too many factors pushing this growth to explain here. it will be hundreds of dollars per ounce. buy the actual bullion. etf's certificates and stocks do not have the gaurentee of the actual product.
-
I'll take this over both of those ;)

yep, pretty tough for the fastest car to keep up with some of the bikes out there.

That's a no shitter. I don't want to be responsible for what can happen when racing a fast bike. Sure, they can blow your doors off and cut lanes, but at the same time, you have to watch out for them when YOU cut lanes. If you are keeping up, well, who gets hurt?
Then you get grandma making a left lane change with her right signal on as Hyabusa hole comes blowing by her at 160 mph.
I guess this is where "street racing" becomes so fucking stupid.
Fast bike gets stuck behind traffic and is in front of you but can't cut lanes... that's always fun too. Actually having to slow down to accomodate the fact that he is on a bike.
None of it makes any logical sense.

i dont build anything i cant drive every day......the only things i have that are not really good for the street are...
1)my 2003 hayabusa...i built it for standing mile races...it has around 550rwhp...but somehow still passed inspection on low boost...
2)my f350 harley truck....it has 30" of lift.....with 52" tires.....driving that over sized peice of shit in traffic, or a parking lot is a pain in the ass...

i have driven the truck 2 times in the last year time period.....it is driven by other people waaaayy more....my friend got layed off of work and he needed quick cash so he sold me the truck...it had 44" tires on it, with 25" of lift when i got it from him...and my dumbass went off and made a hard to drive truck even harder to drive...the entire intake(turbo, piping, intercooler), fuel system, and exhaust has been changed...i tuned it via data logger....i would love to put it on a dyno and see what kind of power it puts out...

It's actually fun when you have a car that shakes it's ass whenever you step on the gas pedal, if you have the talent that is. I'd get an American "super" sports car over any Porsche!
Vipers look bad-ass, but It's sadly one of these cars that you're better off looking at than being behind It's wheel.
Z06 all the way!

Vipers have the wow factor over Vette's any day, but are also way more uncomfortable to drive, 1st is a bitch and the clutch is way too hard compared to a Vette..
put it this way: I could drive somewhere 45 minutes in a Corvette and enjoy the ride, there's no way I could make that same statement about the Viper

agreed. i say the Viper is like a street legal racecar (say that backwards) where as the Corvette is a superfast luxury car.

Yep, exactly. But, the Viper was originally built with that in mind. It was built as a throwback to the musclecars of the 60's. Just a big motor and a pedal that you have to control. The Gen 1's didn't even have outside door handles and had plastic zipper windows. Now, the Gen 2's and 3's have more creature comforts, A/C, power windows and locks, but still just a big ass motor and the pedal. Very little R&D still in the traction control that the Vette has.

I remember the 1st gen's and R/T's ton of torque but not great around corners.. two of my friends had Viper's so I've gotten to take a few turns driving them, their loud as hell too.

the 03-04 cobra is awesome....this is my 3rd one....it has a single 88mm turbo...with heads that i ported myself, and mph cams......
this is my second supra....i got it cheap as hell due to a theft salvage.....it ran a 9.14 at over 155mph last month.....the car+the mods+the work= less than $12,000...i am about to have it painted a really badass orange, and get some rims....i have just been driving it on slicks, and skinnies...

They are loud if they have aftermarket catback exhaust and hi flow cats or no cats. A stock Viper actually sounds like crap. Something about the way the 10 cylinders fire only allows you to here 5 firing. Bench may know how to explain it better than me, I know the ones I have listened to with no aftermarket exhaust though sounded pretty muffled, a mix of a V8 and a 4 cylinder Ricer, really weird.

To a true enthusiast the Z06 is so much more of a complete car.The Viper is a dinosaur with cartoonish looks.
For me picking a winner between these two is a no brainer. The Z06 is a perfect mix of tweaked-out naturally aspirated mouse motor. The Viper is low-tech by comparison and less user friendly.
The Z06 is far more of an engineering marvel than the Dodge.....and at least GM makes a half-ass effort w/Z06 interior unlike Dodge......

Spoken like a true Vette homer................... ...................I'm a Viper homer though, so whatever. But you can't deny the coolness of this bad boy

I remember going to the LA Auto Show in 93 or 94 when they debut the Viper. They were only $53,000 then. Came so close to getting one. The biggest thing I hated was the no A/C. I have to have A/C. The guy told me they were going to have it in the next year I think. Also, something about the windows, I don't they had roll down windows. I can't remember. But I do remember the price almost doubled the next year or something like that.

Don't kid yourself. Don't forget that I see you coming up from the rear long before you even know I'm there.
Now, on a side by side, of course not. I could have 1000 RWHP (unmanageable) and I still wouldnt keep up. I've been travelling these highways for way too long for you to underestimate me.
Just because you have "fast" does not mean you have "smart"...
I'm gonna bow out of this one. I've already said this Z will be the death of me. It's my third one and it's not getting any slower. I try to use control when I'm out on the road, but as a DD, I am in it all the time, and there is always the little baby who wants to play.
What do I do? I can bite it, and back the fuck out... or, I can tear you a new asshole.
More often than not, the fast bikes end up giving me the thumbs up for all the challenge and fun I provide for them. Coming out ahead is not always easy for them... especially in 'certain' road conditions.
In the end, you know the bike will always win, no matter how stupid the driver.
You guys be careful. I've walked away from more accidents that you will be ever be involved in. I am not proud of that... I just have a big-ass-juiced up Guardian Angel.

Hahahaha, jealousy !?! I'm willing to bet you've never even seen a 1000rwhp car in your life, let alone own one.
And it has nothing to do with cost because you can build a fast car for cheap if you know what you're doing, just that pesky little problem of being able to control anything over 700rwhp, unless you're a professional race car driver... ?? there's a handful of 1000hp + Supra's in north america I seriously doubt you own one of them.

I could give someone a run in a fucking minivan
Believe it or not.... it's true. I can drive my GF's frickin Jeep Compass and do the same thing. It doesn't have the "get up and go" but the lack of brains out there more than compensates for it. Fuckin' A true dat.

The interior is similar to every other Dodge, but for me It's the interior heat which absolutely kills the joy of any ride (It's present in the Vette but on a much lesser scale). And not to forget the trademark burns in any Viper owner's leg from the side exhaust. They could've made this car a mass production car with a few tweaks but It's obvious that they wanted it to be the way it is.
The viper is history now so this all doesn't matter.

You mean your Viper is history or Viper itself? Because Chrysler has confirmed that the next gen Viper will be produced...and something tells me that Ferrari and Pininfarina are gonna have some input into it. And believe that they are keeping the V10 as well.

I didn't know this until I read KSA's post, but it is legit. Viper will be discontinued in 2011. Read here at Viperalley http://www.viperalley.com/forum/forum-announcements-news-motions/83811-dodge-viper-final-edition.html The Viper died when Dodge introduced the Gen 3 in 2003 with the convertible style with the straight edge lines and when they got away from the rounded body style that it was known for with the Gen 1&2's. If you are one of the lucky one's that own a Viper, you just got a little collectors item. Yellow with black stripes, thats one sweet Gen 2 right there

I read that Fiat was keeping it alive, seems like it's just a runoff for that generation. And from that website, there is confirmation
I'm with Makara, we're lucky Fiat are planning to keep the brand name alive and should be grateful for that. They may yet surprise us with a big engine befitting the Viper label in a future gen V.

Well, you may as well think of a 2002 base model with an LS1 (cuz a low mileage 2002 LS6 405hp Z is far from "cheap")--and will still give any C6 a run for the $$$$$$.
I would buy a C6Z before a ZR1 any day. The only thing badder than a C5Z is...well, a C6Z. That is all. ;D
