what does this mean? i was looking for a vid on youtube and this popped up. how can there be copyright infringement when people are providing for publicity and advertising for artist?
-
with or without permission from said artist.
this is the question, because the artist may not
want said free advertising.

the internet wasnt like this 5 yrs. everything was public domain (photos, vids, etc)...except if you trying to destroy someone's life. a user gives an unknown artisit 100k viewers and potential customers all for FREE and they can fire back with copyright?

Good question. The internet has sort of made it a free for all. Copyrights are a big joke nowadays.
-

If you google "public domain" and educate yourself a little it should stop you making such stupid comments.

nope totally not true. it's been this way prior to when i first started sites in 98. got my first cnd in 99 for copyright. ms. cleo sued me as well. it's in google under my name.
what you aren't considering is the artists plans for his art. quite possibly 100k views
only dilutes his arts value. traffic from most social websites sucks for making money.
maybe it's meant to be private for a period of time then brought out.
who knows. what gets done with his stuff must be under his control by law and is
if he wants to spend the time effort and money to enforce the law. no one will do it for you

Copyrights don't really mean much if you don't have ability(MONEY) to protect them...Its a good first start when trying to protect something but it doesn't stop anyone from stealing your shit...Only a lawyer, a court room and plenty of time and money can do that...And if you have anything of value out there, it will get stolen one way or another...Cockroach's are all over the globe looking to rip off other people's work...

i'm not talking about reproducing the mona lisa and selling it for a profit, saying FREE promotion of images, videos, etc that are presumed to be public domain. in essence...every fan site, photo or video hosting site, etc should be closed down and the web masters and owners should be up to their necks in law suits. what's the REAL answer?
s##t....getbig by definition is defamation alley. :o

You had the same question in a different form a couple of weeks ago, educate yourself!
There is only one person in control of what can or cannot be done with the material and that is the artist, unless he's sold off these rights to another party.
-
copyright is stupid, because obviously if you were going to buy (MOVIE, MUSIC, whatever) you would.. people who download music illegally were never going to buy it anyway.. :D

Artist and music companies hate free advertising.

and that's why some of them are clueless douches ala prince. in case prince rogers nelson, the artist vs prince.org the judge ruled in favor of prince.org remaining online because they generated sales of his music via affiliate links to vendors. how can only promoting your name in a positive lite be infringement even if they are using so called non-public domain material? i think the judge agreed with me.
