either, both, etc
doesn't really matter.
I think you're a gimmick
-
ON has some BCAAs so 1 scoop before and 1 scoop after workout is what works for me.
-
What is a gimmick ???
If a take the protein after should I use carbs too?
Thanks
-
Milos would say after. He says that the whey will induce digestion which can impede your workout. Take Pure BCAAs before.

don't only rely on your protein shake for protein, eat a full meal afterwards as well.

Thanks, it has a lot of sense.
So, I will have my shake immediately after my workout, but... should I have carbs? for example bananas?
And how much time should I wait for have a solid meal after the shake. I always have 2 cups of white rice cooked and a can of tuna (180 gr) 20 - 30 minutes after the workout.

i have had 4 ON shakes today....

If it is after, I should use a carb with high glycemic index, right?
That would be ideal, although if they're night workouts, you should probably choose a different carb, perhaps some sort of bread/cereal...

Thanks a lot Princess L.
So:
1) I will have my shake 10 minutes after the workout
2) I'll add 2 medium bananas to the shake
3) I'll have a solid meal 1 hour after the shake ( 2 cups of cooked brown rice and 150gr of chicken) this will be the last meal of the day, I'll go to bed 2 hours after that

You're welcome, however, that's not what I said. I think you should find another carb source instead of the bananas. They are not an ideal post work out carb, especially since you're going to bed within three hours of the shake.
Those threads I listed have a lot of info on the subject.
Anyone else, feel free to chime in.

I can't find dextrose/maltodextrin. :'(
I really don't understand why bananas is a bad choice. What kind of carb besides dextrose/maltodextrin would be ideal to add in the PWO shake?
Thanks

So, what do you think about this?
POW shake:
1) 1.5 scoop of whey protein
2) 50gr of honey
3) 1/2 cup of oatmeal
Total 65gr of carbs, 36gr of protein, 3gr of fat

i'd recommend trying to find some gatorade / powerade type of sport drink for the pwo shake.. white bread is ideal at this time also
-
For your post workout shake I would find a good post workout meal replacement powder that has a lot of carbs. That way you can mix the powder in a shaker instead of having to use a blender. I dont even use blenders anymore. Way too inconvienant and too much of a hastle to clean. Believe it or not, shakers mix most powders almost as well as blenders. You can buy them at just about any health food store.
I definately believe in post workout shakes. But its not bad to have protein before a workout as long as it is an hour before the workout. I take a post workout recovery shake that contains about 50 grams of protein, 75 grams carbs. I also drink a large glass of milk and a large glass of cranberry juice mixed with creatine and glutamine.
