Title: Questions about Back physiology
Post by: ronbrgundy on April 14, 2010, 01:57:12 AM
Ok so If I deadlift then do bent over barbell rows i've pretty much nuked the back from what I can tell and probably halfway through a workout.

What would the machine equivalent be?  Back Extension machine and row machine?  This doesn't hit the upper middle back though.

What about cables?  Is there a simple way to mimic a deadlift with cables and then of course cable rows are common?

There is no equivalent to deads and/or bent over rows. That is all.

That's like asking what the equivalent would be to a train wreck...

I imagine the only thing would be.. well, another train wreck.

Deads have no substitute. If you have something left for something else, something is wrong.

The closes equivalent may be the original Nautilus pullover machine. The one with the overhead pulldown bar attached. Hitting all  3 phases  of the muscles of the back. Taking the weaker link of the arms out of the action. Example: the arms are the weakest link when doing row or chins of any kind. They will give out before the larger and stronger back muscles will.

Nautilus original hip and back machine. Some versions of this and the pullover machine are in rehab centers. Good luck.
