Did anyone see the clip? Just flat out disrespectful to the people he's supposed to be serving.
Obama says Tea Partiers owe him a thank you
Posted: April 16th, 2010
From CNN Ticker Producer Alexander Mooney
(CNN) - Tea Party activists marked Tax Day with a high-profile rally in Washington, DC, and other protests across the country, but President Obama says the anti-tax movement actually owes him a thank you.
Speaking at a Democratic fundraiser in Miami Thursday night, the president touted tax cuts in the stimulus measure and the fact that the tax rate has not been increased for those making less than $250,000 a year.
"So I've been amused in recent days by these people having rallies," he told the crowd at the fundraiser to laughter. "I think they should be saying thank you."
Members of the crowd, who paid between $250 to $1,250 to attend the event, immediately rose to their feet and replied "Thank You!"
The White House noted Thursday that federal taxes were reduced by $173 billion in 2009 and said that the average tax refund is about 10 percent higher than last year.
Obama also won a standing ovation from the Miami crowd when he praised the recent passage of the health care reform plan.
"As my vice president said, 'This is a big deal,'" Obama said to laughter in reference of Vice President Joe Biden's verbal slip at the bill's signing ceremony where he was heard telling the president "This is a big F-ing deal"
"And he was right," Obama said.

I almost fell out of my chair when I heard this.
-
Please explain where he lied and how it was disrespectful.
-
Please explain where he lied and how it was disrespectful.
First off, its a credit not a tax cut.
Second, this amount is offset by the cost of borrowing to pay for the stim bill and bailouts which are a hidden tax. I posted on this extensively.
Third, there are tax increases increases in obamacare as well as a looming VAT Tax, Cap & Trade, etc.
-
Please explain where he lied and how it was disrespectful.
Did you see the clip? Very sarcastic. People are protesting all across the country and he just straight up dismissed them.
-
The tone was not fitting of a president...especially one that claimed to be someone that brought people together. Obama is devisive...the tone is popular with the liberal left though.
Various taxes have gone up this year already and next year we could see huge increases if Obama doesn't renew the Bush tax cuts and increases the tax on all capital gains. Additionally, the 3.8% healthcare tax increase for people making over 200K (or 250) is law...not sure which year that starts. Cap & trade will create additional huge taxation. As would the proposal the left is tossing around concerning a national sales tax.
Things would be a lot worse with taxation if the country didn't start speaking up this year. I think that halted a few of the proposed liberal tax increases. There is a proposal for increased gasoline tax on the table too.
-
Rush tore him a new ahole today by thanking Obama for all the great things he has done.I remember one was "thank you Mr. President for insulting the American people but embracing groups like ACORN and the New Black Panther party".It was classic and once again made Obama look like the lying dope he is.

i'm so confused on this one.

We got a tax rebate of 1300 dollars.Didnt we get a similar one under Bush for like 800 dollars and didnt he give it to us in one lump sum so we could actually buy something with it while Obama spread it out in 15 dollar incriments where it didnt buy you shit.I dont recall ONE liberal celebrating that as a tax cut,not one not ever.
TAX RATES HAVE NOT GONE DOWN ONE PENNY AND WILL SOON GO UP AS THIS FOOL LETS THE BUSH TAX CUTS EXPIRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
By the way, should the tea party thank him for 9.7% unemployment? His takeover of GM and Chrysler? His assanine health care scheme? His exploding of the deficit? His never ending government intrusion?

-
I dont know where they are getting that $1300 figure. I think most of the lowest income people had less withheld from thier paycheck throughout the year which they probably didnt even feel, and then they got about $100 more in thier tax refund.

Ok. I watched the video. In that, i didnt see where Obama called for a good/service to be increased and there collect more taxes. If gas was cheaper again, then taxes would be lower for it right. Sounds like the oil company to me

That's not how it works. The money is printed out of nothing and thus increasing the money supply. You end up having more currency in circulation chasing the same or fewer goods and services, thereby driving the price up.
The govt charges sales tax on the purchase price. Thus, the govt is collecting more money from you, whether you have it or not.
Its a hidden tax.
The problem is that wages have not kept up with the amount of inflation and currency in circulation so that people whose wages have not gone up are forced to pay higher prices for things wwith dollars they have less value.
-
Guys watch this. Learn and wake the hell up as to what is going on this country. Think about this clip the next time you cheer on the government spending and borrowing money to pay for garbage like the Stim Bill.

But the money printed out of nothing was to jumpstart the shitty economy your hero left us in. If Bush's policies (of which the cbo said were gonna cost the US) wouldnt have left us in the worst recession since the 1930s, the option to print money wouldnt even be on the table

If you seriously believe that post, my god, please read a book on money and why the economy went in the toilet.
Blaming Bush for the economy alone is so ridiculous and simplistic, its not even worth having a discussion with you on this.
Sure Bush helped the mess by encouraging more home loans, but there were many other factors involved.

It is due to is shitty fiat system and other factors that go on regardless of whos president. If you understood the other posts you wouldn`t be defending any `jumpstart` printing.

It's hilarious to see how thin skinned Repubes have become all of a sudden
look at the context
Obama is speaking on tax day while outside the White House is a crowd of dumbfounded dipshits with posters of Obama with a Hitler mustache protesting taxes when it's a statistical certainty that most of their federal taxes went down and I'll bet that a large portion of that crowd is in the 47% that pay no federal taxes as all.
BTW - a tax credit is a tax reduction
If it's not then why were Repubs calling the removal of tax credits for oil companies a tax hike.
-
Repubs have plenty of ground to stand on when it comes to amnesty - it sucks... except their party leaders embraced it in 08.
Repubs have some ground to stand on when it comes to the debt - if they bitched about Bush's spending the last 2 years, where he never chose to veto a dem spending bill, except the one called S-chip for helping poor kics. Every other spending package was A-ok.
They have less ground on healthcare - cause the system is broken and with 12 years owning congress, they didn't bother touching it. They can't bitch about the ppl gobbling up a crap sandwich when they let them go hungry, ya know?
As far as taxes - Bush taxed ppl a lot more than Obama - they have no footing to bitch on. Unless they are going to mail that $1300 back, it's just petty bitching at this point. Or, if they marched against TARP, they get a pass because they were against it no matter who was in office- and that is respectable.
But complaining that a dem gave you a black eye - when you didn't complain when a repub split your head open - that's just a bitch move.
-
Here we go again with the Republicans not being able to complain........... YES Republicans have a right to complain because Repubilcans werent THIS bad. Ok? How many times to I have to say it? By 2007, after all big fiscal spending, before the housing bubble popped, Bush had the deficit back down to historic lows. When deficits are at historic lows, then yes deficits dont really matter. But when they are approaching post WW2 highs, then yes, they matter. You know, its bad enough to justify bad behavior by pointing to worse behavior, but liberals have gone beyond that by justifiying worse behavior by pointing to behavior that is not as bad. That doesnt make sense. Please, stop it with the Repubicans spending. First of all, conservatives criticised them for it when it was happening. Liberals did not. Liberals only criticizied the tax cuts. Which doesnt make sense because revenues were high enough. Its a non argument.

complain all you want but when it's something stupid like complaining about Obama making a joke (and also a valid point) expect to have it pointed out

Obama has raised taxes by 600 billion dollars. This of course is never spoken about by libs.
According to the polls the tea party people make more money then the average American. So they actually do pay taxes.I wonder how many of the 95% of blacks that voted for Obama pay income taxes?

No, I said Obama bitch slapped the entire tea party. You then posted about his 47% approval rating, which I asked was the 53% against him all from the tea party. Which it isn't. So that 47% approval rating hasn't got jack shit to do with a minority fringe group like the tea party if you are trying to credit them with it.
Again, Obama bitch slapped the entire tea party.

Sorry,I didnt explain myself well. What Im saying is that Obama is attacking the tea parties to boost himself in the polls. It isnt working. Its also not working when they call them racists and kooks.Obama and the left thought they could dimish them with the typical racist attacks as they always do,but this time its failing. His approval ratings are tanking and attacking the tea parties arent helping them.He and the left are attacking the tea parties to distract the country from his horrible policies. Its not working.Health care still has over 55% of the country saying REPEAL!!

Lawrence O'Donnell Admits: ObamaCare Will Enact Largest Tax Increase Ever
By Alex Fitzsimmons (Bio | Archive)
Wed, 03/17/2010 - 12:55 ET
ObamaCare constitutes the largest tax increase in American history and shatters the previous record, admitted self-described socialist and MSNBC political analyst Lawrence O’Donnell yesterday.
When MSNBC anchor Joe Scarborough asked O’Donnell about the overhaul bill on his radio show, O’Donnell said ObamaCare raises taxes by almost $500 billion.
Obama’s historic tax increase nearly doubles the previous record-setting tax that O’Donnell helped craft as Democratic Chief of Staff to the Senate Finance Committee during the Clinton administration.
Even O’Donnell conceded that proposing the largest tax increase in American history during a painful recession and double-digit unemployment was a foolish misadventure.
“We liberal Keynesians do not raise taxes in recessions,” said O’Donnell. “We raise taxes when you’re making money. That’s when we raise taxes. And we love to do it.”
On the subject of groundbreaking admissions, remember when O’Donnell criticized the “unprecedented” use of reconciliation to pass ObamaCare.
A transcript of the exchange between Scarborough and O'Donnell, which aired yesterday and was replayed on today's "Morning Joe," can be found below:
[Clip from Joe Scarborough’s radio interview with Lawrence O’Donnell, which aired yesterday]
JOE SCARBOROUGH: Lawrence O’Donnell, you were part of the largest tax increase of all-time–
LAWRENCE O’DONNELL: –The biggest.
SCARBOROUGH: –with Bill Clinton. 250 billion dollars. You say Barack Obama’s health care bill will double that–
O’DONNELL: –Almost
SCARBOROUGH: –and will raise almost 500 billion dollars.
O’DONNELL: And do so–and here’s the really important economic principle that’s shocking for anyone who’s take the introductory course: they’re going to do it in a recession. You know...
[Laughter]
O’DONNELL: We, we, we liberal, we liberal Keynesians do not raise taxes in recessions; we raise taxes when you’re making money. That’s when we raise taxes. And we love to do it.
[Back in the studio]
SCARBOROUGH: And Lawrence does love to do it.
MIKA BRZEZINSKI, co-host of “Morning Joe”: Very good point.
SCARBOROUGH: But how fascinating, though, Lawrence, the liberal, has given Republicans a great talking point. Largest tax increase ever, in the middle of a recession, when real unemployment’s in double digits–that’s probably where the debate’s going to be and not on the slaughter rule this fall.

oh, well I guess if someone said it on MSBC then it must be true
I wasn't aware that O'Donnell was writing policy.
now tell me what taxes ODonnell is talking about
I assume he's referring to federa incometax and specifically on those over 250k which we already know about
If not, then tell me what he's talking about specifically

we already KNOW that Obama is raising federal income tax on the upper brackets
as "proof" of whatever it is you're trying to say you show me a transcript with Lawrence O'Donell (someone I like) saying Obama is going to raise taxes
Since (as usual) you provide only a snippet of a conversation we have no clue whether O'Donnell is talking about the tax increase that we all know about and which Obama ran on or something else (which would be his opinion)
For christ sakes at least post the entire converation so we don't have to guess what he's referring to

Who Pays for ObamaCare?March 25, 2010 - 12:23 pmShare81
David Whelan is a staff writer at Forbes
President Obama’s health reform will cover 32 million Americans by 2019 at a cost of $940 billion. Who is going to pay for this colossal coverage increase?
Some of the losers: Tanning salon patrons will have to pay a 10% sales tax. Wealthy folks who earn over $250,000 will pay additional Medicare payroll taxes. Small business electing not to provide coverage for their employees will get hit with big per-worker penalties. Anyone who takes money out of a Health Savings Account and uses it for non-medical purposes will get slammed with a 20% penalty, up from 10% now. And companies like Caterpillar and Deere will now have to pay taxes on federal subsidies they get to provide retiree drug benefits.
Amazingly, the health overhaul is supposed to save the government $114 billion over 10 years, according to the Congressional Budget Office. By another estimate, it will reduce the total deficit by $143 billion. How is this possible? The massive spending increases are offset by $1 trillion dollars of Medicare cuts, new taxes and fees. In addition, there are cuts to student loan programs and gimmicks involving borrowing money from Social Security and the U.S. Postal Service. (See the CBO’s analysis here and the Joint Committee on Taxation’s technical analysis of revenue provisions here.) Here is Forbes' analysis of where all the money is going—and who is paying for it all:
First, the new spending:
$466 Billion--Subsidies for moderate-income individuals to get insurance
For moderate income individuals and families (a family of four that makes under $88,000 a year), the law established subsidies based on income they can use to buy health insurance on new state insurance exchanges. By 2019, 24 million people will be using the exchanges, with an average subsidy of $3,700 per person per year.
$434 Billion--Medicaid expansion
The laws expands Medicaid and something called CHIP to cover more people. By 2019, 16 million more people will have insurance under these programs, at a cost of $6,100 per person per year. (The net gain in people covered from this provision and the subsidies comes out to 32 million, after subtracting 8 million people who are projected to lose coverage elsewhere.)
$40 Billion-- New small business tax credits
This is the value of tax credits that small businesses will be eligible for if they provide coverage for workers.
Here’s where that bounty is coming from:
$455 Billion-Medicare budget cuts
This much will be cut out of Medicare's budget over the next decade. The core portion of Medicare, the part that pays the doctor when an elderly person goes for a checkup, is not affected much. But a full $136 billion will be slashed from the Medicare Advantage program, in which the government subsidizes HMOs such as Humana to provide an alternative to conventional government coverage. Many view the subsidies for these programs as a wasteful giveaway to private industry. There’s almost $200 billion in cuts in reimbursements increases for home health agencies, nursing homes, imaging centers and hospitals. These cuts could lower the quality of care but could also force everyone to become more efficient.
$210 Billion--New Medicare taxes for the wealthy
This much will be raised from new Medicare taxes. An additional 0.9% Medicare payroll tax rate will be applied to income over $250,000 for married couples, in addition to the 1.45% tax already collected. Also a brand new tax on investment income of 3.8% will be applied to families in the same income category, in addition to normal capital gains rates. These new taxes were not in any of the earlier iterations of the bill.
$107 Billion—New industry fees
This money will come from new fees charged to Pfizer and other drug manufacturers and HMOs such as UnitedHealth Group. But don’t be fooled: the companies will presumably find a way pass the cost on to patients by raising prices. There is also a new 2.3% tax on medical devices like artificial hips and wheelchairs.
$103 Billion—Various new taxes
This is another basket of new taxes that the CBO does not break out in detail. But it includes the 10% tax on indoor tanning and new 20% penalty on money taken out of a health savings account and used for non-medical purposes. Other line items: lowering the ceiling on H.S.A. deductibility, and eliminating a tax credit for “cellulosic biofuel.”
$70 Billion--Premiums from a new long-term care program
The law includes a new federal long-term care insurance program. The revenue-raising effect here is artificial, as the program will run a surplus during the first decade, while benefits won’t be paid out until much later. Losers here will be private companies that sell competing products.
$65 Billion-- Penalties paid by individuals who go without coverage
People who elect to go without coverage will pay $695 per person per year, or 2.5% of their income, whichever is greater. There are also penalties for businesses that decide not to buy coverage for their workers.
$32 Billion-- New tax on high-cost plans
This much will be raised by a new tax on high-cost medical insurance plans that kicks in for the first time in 2018. This is way down from the $150 billion estimate in an earlier version of the bill that had a tax that kicked in sooner. Union workers who have negotiated cushy health coverage and top management at big companies with gold-plated benefits will likely have to pay this tax.

Straw - if you honestly are this ignorant, ill-informed, and lacking of any understanding of ObamaCare after everything I have posted from many different sources, that I refuse to discuss anything with you. You truly fit the image and profile of the stereotypical liberal idiot.
Geez dude- wake the hell up, or at least tell your boyfriend to do the same.
It's hard to dance around the fact that Obama said he WOULD NOT raise taxes on folks making under $250K (campaigned on it for the better part of two years), only to totally renege on his campaign promises and HIKE UP PEOPLE'S TAXES, within that income bracket.
Senator Obama's Four Tax Increases for People Earning Under $250K
I confess. Senator Obama's two tax promises: to limit tax increases to only those making over $250,000 a year, and to not raise taxes on 95% of "working Americans," intrigued me. As a hard-working small business owner, over the past ten years I've earned from $50,000 to $100,000 per year. If Senator Obama is shooting straight with us, under his presidency I could look forward to paying no additional Federal taxes -- I might even get a break -- and as I struggle to support a family and pay for two boys in college, a reliable tax freeze is nearly as welcome as further tax cuts.
However, Senator Obama's dual claims seemed implausible, especially when it came to my Federal income taxes. Those implausible promises made me look at what I'd been paying before President Bush's 2001 and 2003 tax cuts, as well as what I paid after those tax cuts became law. I chose the 2000 tax tables as my baseline -- they reflect the tax rates that Senator Obama will restore by letting the "Bush Tax Cuts" lapse. I wanted to see what that meant from my tax bill.
I've worked as the state level media and strategy director on three Presidential election campaigns -- I know how "promises" work -- so I analyzed Senator Obama's promises by looking for loopholes.
The first loophole was easy to find: Senator Obama doesn't "count" allowing the Bush tax cuts to lapse as a tax increase. Unless the cuts are re-enacted, rates will automatically return to the 2000 level. Senator Obama claims that letting a tax cut lapse -- allowing the rates to return to a higher levels -- is not actually a "tax increase." It's just the lapsing of a tax cut.
See the difference?
Neither do I.
When those cuts lapse, my taxes are going up -- a lot -- but by parsing words, Senator Obama justifies his claim that he won't actively raise taxes on 95 percent of working Americans, even while he's passively allowing tax rates to go up for 100% of Americans who actually pay Federal income taxes.
Making this personal, my Federal Income Tax will increase by $3,824 when those tax cuts lapse. That not-insignificant sum would cover a couple of house payments or help my two boys through another month or two of college.
No matter what Senator Obama calls it, requiring us to pay more taxes amounts to a tax increase. This got me wondering what other Americans will have to pay when the tax cuts lapse.
For a married family, filing jointly and earning $75,000 a year, this increase will be $3,074. For those making just $50,000, this increase will be $1,512. Despite Senator Obama's claim, even struggling American families making just $25,000 a year will see a tax increase -- they'll pay $715 more in 2010 than they did in 2007. Across the board, when the tax cuts lapse, working Americans will see significant increases in their taxes, even if their household income is as low as $25,000. See the tables at the end of this article.
Check this for yourself. Go to http://www.irs.gov/formspubs/ and pull up the 1040 instructions for 2000 and 2007 and go to the tax tables. Based on your 2007 income, check your taxes rates for 2000 and 2007, and apply them to your taxable income for 2007. In 2000 -- Senator Obama's benchmark year -- you would have paid significantly more taxes for the income you earned in 2007. The Bush Tax Cuts, which Senator Obama has said he will allow to lapse, saved you money, and without those cuts, your taxes will go back up to the 2000 level. Senator Obama doesn't call it a "tax increase," but your taxes under "President" Obama will increase -- significantly......
