Hawaii bill would keep government from seizing firearms in emergency
Associated Press
A bill preventing the government from seizing legal firearms in Hawaii during an emergency is likely heading for final legislative approval.
A conference committee agreed on the measure yesterday, and it is scheduled for a vote before the full Senate today after it already passed the House.
The proposal prohibits the seizure of firearms or ammunition when the government invokes emergency powers during a disaster.
It gained momentum after February's tsunami warning, when lawmakers said their constituents asked if their weapons could be taken in an emergency situation.
Gun-rights activists have pursued this kind of law since Hurricane Katrina, when New Orleans police confiscated guns in an attempt to restore order.
If passed, the bill would advance to Gov. Linda Lingle.

When something like that does happen, how do they go about it?
During Katrina did they break into peoples homes and take them or what?

New Hawaii law prevents seizure of legal guns in an emergency
Associated Press
HONOLULU — A new Hawaii law prevents the state government from seizing legal firearms during an emergency.
Gov. Linda Lingle signed the measure Wednesday.
The law prohibits the seizure of firearms or ammunition when the government invokes emergency powers during a disaster.
It arose from concerns following February's tsunami warning, when residents asked lawmakers if their legal weapons could be taken in an emergency situation.
Sen. Sam Slom, a Republican representing Hawaii Kai, says law-abiding gun-owning citizens were concerned that police wouldn't be able to protect everyone during a major emergency.
Gun-rights activists have pursued this kind of law since Hurricane Katrina, when New Orleans police confiscated guns in an attempt to restore order.
The bill is SB358.

Good job Hawaii. Now, if the other 50 states would just follow suit, I'd be on cloud nine!!
