Title: Dick Morris 'Dead Certain' GOP Will Take Back House in Midterms
Post by: Dos Equis on April 20, 2010, 07:04:42 PM
This part is just outrageous:  “In the space of 220 years of our republic, we amassed a $9 trillion debt. And in the space of 18 months we added $3 trillion to it, a third again as much."

Veteran political analyst and best-selling author Dick Morris tells Newsmax.TV that the 2010 congressional elections will shape the economic future of America — and he is “dead certain” that Republicans will win back the House.

He also says Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should attack Iran, and charges that President Barack Obama has “sold Israel down the river.”

A frequent Newsmax contributor and Fox News Channel commentator, Morris has handled the winning campaigns of more than 30 senators and governors. He is the author along with Eileen McGann of the new book “2010: Take Back America — A Battle Plan.”

Morris writes in the book that Obama is ruining America. And in an exclusive interview with Newsmax.TV, he was asked where Obama has done the most damage.

Story continues below video.

“Obviously with the debt. He has literally mortgaged the whole country,” Morris declares.

“In the space of 220 years of our republic, we amassed a $9 trillion debt. And in the space of 18 months we added $3 trillion to it, a third again as much.

“That’s setting up this huge sword that hangs over our country, which is, what are we going to do about it? We can’t leave it as borrowed money. We’re either going to have to cut spending or raise taxes. That is going to be the crucial decision that will shape the economic future of the United States, and that decision will be made by the Congress we elect this year.

“That’s why we write that voting in 2010 may be the most important thing you do all year.”

The best strategy for Americans who want to “take back America” is to vote Republican even if the Democratic candidate is conservative, because any Democrat will likely vote along party lines, Morris observes.

“So the worst Republican is better than the best Democrat, and that’s why I think it has to be a party-line choice.”

The GOP needs to win 10 seats to take control of the Senate, and Morris believes a number of incumbent Democrats are vulnerable.

“There are eight seats right now where the Republican candidate, or either of the Republican candidates where they have a primary, is actually ahead of the Democrat, and in most cases when an incumbent Democrat is under 50 [percent in the polls] they’re going to lose,” Morris says.

Republicans are ahead in Delaware, Pennsylvania, Indiana, North Dakota, Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois and Nevada, he points out.

“In California, Barbara Boxer is under 50 percent and most of the undecided goes against the incumbent, so that probably is the ninth seat.”

Republicans also stand a good chance to win a seat in Washington, Wisconsin, Connecticut or New York, where Kirsten Gillibrand is “very vulnerable” and could lose to any of the Republicans vying for the nomination.

Asked how optimistic he is that the GOP can win the 39 House seats they need to take control, Morris responds: “I’m not optimistic, I’m dead certain that we can do it.

“We’ll pick up 11 seats from retirements. Then there are 17 that I list in my book and call them ‘dead men walking’ — folks who won with very narrow margins in heavily Republican districts. They only won because of the Obama sweep or because of a scandal among the Republicans or something like that.

“Then I have a list of 37 and an additional list of 40 Democrats that I think are vulnerable, and I think we should win about a third of those.

“The key thing is get your copy of ‘2010: Take Back America — A Battle Plan’ and look at each of those races and figure out which ones you can get involved in.”

Morris acknowledges that Senate candidate Charlie Crist, who trails fellow Republican Marco Rubio by a wide margin in the polls, might run as an independent in Florida. But he adds that Democratic candidate Kendrick Meek is “very weak” and would probably run third, so that seat is safely Republican even if an independent run by Crist splits the vote.

Morris also says he hopes Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman will run for re-election as an independent rather than join the Republican Party, and believes he could win again as an independent.

Security expert Frank Gaffney recently told Newsmax that Iran will have nuclear weapons “any day now.” Morris, who has advised Benjamin Netanyahu in the past, was asked what advice he would now give the Israeli prime minister.

“I think Netanyahu has got to strike when he feels the time is right,” Morris says.

“There may be technical issues that he may be resolving, but Netanyahu has got to bomb Iran. He’s got to take those missiles out of play.

“I think Americans, particularly American supporters of Israel, missed what Obama did last week. He absolutely sold Israel down the river.

“He said that the United States had a security interest in resolving the Israeli-Palestinian fight. That echoes what General [David] Petraeus has been saying, which is that it’s Israel’s fault that they’re shooting at Americans because Israel won’t cave in to the demands of the Palestinians for the West Bank.

“This is really an ongoing effort by the pro-Arab members of the administration, which I think includes the president, to somehow make Israel the villain when in fact Israel is the victim.

“We all know one fundamental fact about the Middle East: If Israel stopped fighting, there would be no Israel, and if the Arabs stopped fighting, there would be no war.”

That is pretty insane.  The trend over the last 2 years of bush, and the first 18 months of obama, is mind boggling.

I'd be interested in what % of it came during the Bush term as well.  Some people, like Morris, seem to think this asinine spending started 18 months ago.  It started a few years before that.

Regardless, obama doubled and tripled down on the very worst of bush spending.

Correct.  Who cares about Bush?  Other than Obama who is still campaigning while spending us into oblivion.

Bush is responsible for the $150 billion stimulus in 08. But that was really a Democrat initiative that Bush caved in to. He is responsible for TARP which Democrats and Repubilcans and Obama voted for. Everything else after that is all Obama. Obama is responsible for the $800 "stimulus package" (democrat donor giveaway)  of 09. He is responsible for $400 billionas dollar Son of Stimulus Package (the real stimulus package). He is responsbile for the expansion of SCHIPS.
