Dana White says Jake Shields is "definitely coming to the UFC":
"Jake Shields is definitely going to leave Strikeforce, and he’s definitely coming to the UFC… They never respected Jake Shields, who is their champion. They didn’t even have him in their commercials for the fight. Then the fight happens and Jake Shields wins," White said.
"They were like, ’Oh my God. [Shields] won. What do we do?. I think they sent [Jason ‘Mayhem’ Miller] in there to challenge him, so that if Jake leaves, it looks like he doesn’t want to fight Miller. That‘s not the way you do it. You let the winner speak, then you ask him at the end about whether he‘s willing to fight Miller."
-
To top it all off, they have a champion that has the ability to leave while holding the belt.
Not looking good for them at all.
-
If we're all lucky, StrikeForce will be relegated to being a regional player by end of year. They will still put on good local shows and serve as a minor league to the UFC. And, of course, all top ranked fighters will be in one org.
-
One major league org is all I want. Its all any true MMA fan should want.
Since the UFC likes to put on lot's of shows, more talent would mean better quality match-ups as well.
Win win situation for all!
-
Not to mention we would have undisputed tittles & unified rules.
-
What org is currently competing with the UFC? I know there are orgs that are TRYING to stay in business by competing with the UFC.
Strikeforce has a good company. They are only hurting themselves by trying to grow into another UFC.
Saturday night proved they are in over their heads. They are literally throwing money away at this point.

:o :o
the hate is strong with the UFC guy's :-\

Only communists are in favor of 1 and only 1 organization.
Unfortunately we've got quite a few of those commie scumbags polluting the minds of honest hardworking getbiggers around here.
America, fuck yeah !

Why would 1 primary org be considered bad. It has worked for every other major sport in the US?
Nobody said that smaller orgs couldn't feed into the 1 main org.
-
MMA has no regular season ::) They have no post season either ::)
Having access to all relevant competition would sustain the sport much better then the way it is set up now.
Currently the UFC has little competition and the little they do, is preventing a FEW exciting fights. More of a thorn in the UFC's side than anything else.
If there were currently or possibly ever, a real competing company, I could see your point.
-
One org would unify rules, unify titles, and allow for better match-ups.

I thought you hated dime a dozen boring wrestlers that aren't big draws? Jake Shields should be in the dictionary when you look up dime a dozen boring wrestlers that aren't big draws ::) I'm sure Strikeforce will manage.
-
You are entitled to your opinion on the quality of fights.
The UFC has a bigger roster than ever, putting on several shows a month. Some even free.
Fighters in the UFC are making more than ever before.
Don't watch if you don't like the UFC. Simple as that.

Shields is not a dime a dozen. He is a humble, professional, talented fighter, with heart and a full gas tank. Plus he is a decent looking white guy. Not being racist or homo, just stating what sells.
Maybe not a belt holder in the UFC, but he can put on some good match-up. Wish Nick Diaz would clean up his attitude. Would like to see him back in the UFC as well
Big difference comparing him to King Mo. Nice try though.

Shields has no stand up to speak of, that's being realistic. He's a good wrestler with good BJJ and no personality. You are suck a nut sucker it's getting ridiculous, how is he in your delusional eyes, going to be a bringing in any kind of viewers. Boring decisions don't go over to well in the UFC, just becuase you think he's cute dosen't mean people are going to be forking over $$$ to see him dry humping on people. He's been fighting for a long ass time and still hasn't learned to turn a punch over decently. Mo showed he's got hands, in addition to wrestling, he gassed pretty quick but he won that fight on pure heart. He's just been fighting a couple years, imagine where he'll be when he's put in the time Jake has?
-
I guess Shields just became a great fighter since joining the UFC in WeightPSHR's and Mindspinds mind now ::)
Last week Strikeforce had sorry competition and UFC rejects and now Shields is a good fighter worthy of taking GSP's belt.
-

not to mention one organization controlling the pay days for all fighters, and the fighters having no option of anywhere to go if they dont like what they are being offered. even the very top 1% of mma fighters make peanuts compared to the top boxers, and with only one organization that is how it will always remain.

As I have previously stated, King Mo may have a shot in the UFC in a few years. CURRENTLY he has no place. Shields is by no means headed for a belt in the UFC, but he can be competitive and put on some good fights. His stock did rise with his victory over Hendo.
If you think that people won't pay money to see Sheilds, why in the hell would they pay to see Mo?
Shields even has a little face time on TUF this season, and he recently beat a hall of famer :o
Great logic you have there..LOL

How could Shields be a UFC reject....you do know he has never been in the UFC right?
I have stated many times that Shields poses no threat to the talent the UFC has. He would just mix things up and put on some good match-ups.
Hopefully this clears things up for you.
Never said Strikeforce didn't have a few guys that could make it to the UFC.
How many can and how well they would do in the UFC is another story.
-

True fighters would be happy to do it for next to nothing, just like all the early UFC guys did. I don't give a shit that fighters aren't making millions of dollars. They're making way more than they used to. What is more important, is that there is a long-term sustainable organization for lots of fighters to have an opportunity. The UFC provides that now, and it only keeps getting better.
The alternative is the boxing model in which a handful of boxers make millions, the rest make nothing and the promoters make peanuts. That is short term and we all know how well it has worked for boxing.

Shields is the best guy to market against GSP right now. I believe a fight between the two would get a lot of PPVs and it would probably be a good fight in which GSP would feel comfortable standing and banging. I hope it happens!

If that happens UFC would have to have a major network TV deal in order to keep that many fighters on there roster...they would need to put on weekly fights like how there is boxing on ESPN every Friday night...There should be Free MMA on a major channel such as ESPN...
Otherwise even if strikeforce were to fold there will just be another Org pop up to fill the void...MMA is growing by leaps and bounds and the only way to accommodate the influx of fighters would be to have a major TV deal with weekly fights...Otherwise you just have a shit load of fighters in your stable only getting to fight once or twice a year....

GSP is the draw if that fight happens, he could fight anybody and it will sell. 99% of the people that buy that fight will be buying it for GSP, and that's being generous to Jake.
-
I don't think Shields GSP is good at all. To be honest, I don't think shields would defeat the last 3 guys that GSP beat. It would be nice to see GSP let his hands go though.

I disagree. A fight is only as good as how well it can be marketed. Right now, GSP has cleaned out the division and he is getting criticism for boring fights that he does not finish.
With Jake, they can market this as GSP is fighting the StrikeForce Champ who just beat a former Pride Champ. And, I think GSP would make this a hell of a lot more exciting fight than his last few.

I agree with this from a marketing standpoint. GSP would demolish Shields, but it would be a great selling/interesting fight. Shields also has not lost in years.
It would also prevent GSP from providing a boring fight.
Even if Shields loses, there are some good fights for him in the UFC.

Shields has beat a lot of top guys including Paul Daily. He may not be the most exciting fighter, but he is good. Also, keep in mind that StrikeForce does not allow elbows. With Jake's style, he will be a lot more effective/exciting with elbows.

shields is such a boring fighter for me to watch...i really hope he doesnt go to the UFC....

He'll be less boring when he is allowed to throw elbows.

doubt it....the gracies were allowed to use elbow in the early days of the UFC....and those are the most boring fights in the world for me to watch...

Well, then you must not like MMA all that much. You might want to check out K1 or regular boxing...

Did anyone notice that everytime Hendo hit Shileds he damn near knocked him out, Silva will ktfo in 30 seconds

Shields won't fight at 185 in the UFC. The Gracies in the UFC, other than Royce, in the early days of Semaphore, which other Gracie competed? And in Royce's case, he normally fought from his back using closed guard, so he wasn't throwing downward elbows. And in the case of Royce, he was subbing guys. So I don't get the supposition that BJJ=boring when it was a BJJ fighter that initially popularized the UFC.
Furthermore, everyone trains BJJ in modern MMA. Wrestlers were the first to use elbows from within closed guard, and do so effectively. Mark Coleman, Tito Ortiz popularized GNP.

when the gracies first did it, it got popular because it was new and exciting....not so much anymore....this is MMA, not BJJ.....mix it up...

There is no one in the UFC today only doing BJJ ::) There may be people like Maia whose strength is BJJ, but they bring other skills to the cage as well.
