I heard a female at the gym talking about her husband who she referred to as a "professional powerlifter". It mad me start thinking...How much can a pro powerlifter possibly make?
-
Ask Louie Simmons or Dave Tate
-
Not much, most of the pro powerlifters make their money from owning a gym or equiptment line, plus a real job. Like most fringe sports, it's a stepping stone on to other things. The money in the strength sports flows something like this Pro BB> Strongman >Powerlifting >Olympic Lifting.
-
Enough to rip off your head and shit down your neck.
-
Why isn't PLing an Olympic sport ???

Why isn't PLing an Olympic sport ???
to a degree it is.....but if the lifters made enough money they could possibly jeopardize there Olympic status with there earnings...
when i was doing Olympic shooting, i would have to donate 10grand to the IOC for every 50grand i won in my sport....
this isn't anything for guys in the NBA, or Phelps...but i doubt any PL is going to get that kind of prize money, or endorsements...

Probably more then a Bob Chick BSN contract.
:D
-
What do you mean "To a degree" benchmaster? There's not really a gray area; it's either on the roster or it's not (and it's not).

Guess they're doing pretty good then...
-
Too much equiptment/suits, too many federations, too many drugs.
If they can get it back to something like this, and the whole drugs in sports controversy peters out, it might still have a chance-
.

Hey.... I wouldn't turn down a lifetime supply of Endorush, or Syntha 6! No hate. :)

Yes, but there wasn't the public bally-hoo about drug use in 1977, If you were the IOC now, would you want to adopt an admittedly drugged out sport like Powerlifting? Hell, it's funny they even keep Olympic Lifting around with many of the top squads having to drop out because of drug use or other mysterious "injuries".
-
Chick along with BSN, has already began a plan of ridding the scourge of pharmaceutical drugs from sports. They will be soon starting a crusade of passing out packets of True Mass, and bottles of Endorush, before all sporting events, which in turn, will soon make other agents obsolete.
Chick: A man who cares!

Olympic Lifting is 2 lifts= 1) Snatch 2) CLean & Jerk
Powerlifting is 3 lifts= 1) bench 2) squat 3) Deadlift
Seriously, I hope for your sake that you have never been in a gym in your life before.

ALL sports are "drugged out"...
The IOC has stringent testing, Olympic lifters are not exempt from the test, which makes your point pretty much moot...

if you break things down to a basic form.
Why should a man be paid to throw a plastic ball through a hoop?
Etc...

The NBA ball is made of leather, except for that weird synthetic ball they had for like half a year.

Most of the top level meets are only a few grand in total prize money. For instance, a guy winning a decent sized show might only bring home a grand or two, many times only a few hundred.
Go here: www.powerliftingwatch.co m and look at the totals in various classes and the contests. There is NOOOOOOOOOOOOO money in powerlifting:).

How is it moot???? My whole point is that the IOC has enough trouble justifying keep such drugged out fringe sports like Olympic Lifting in the Olympics to the public and having to keep up the testing. Olympic Lifting isn't a big crowd drawing sport(it hasn't been in a longtime), neither will Powerlifting. So why would they risk public scrutiny by allowing in a such a thing?

It's moot because ALL the Olympic sports have to abide by (and pass) the IOC testing...so there is no "risk" anymore than any other sport...you either pass or you dont. Plenty of other athletes in just about every sport have failed the test.....

When you think about it, very few jobs are really "productive" anymore. Farmers, builders, lumber jacks, those guys who dig up ore and stuff...these are quite rare. And the only ones I consider "true jobs". They bring money in. With other jobs you just have money that switches owners.
-
We dont make shit!!! The top events pay a couple Grand if lucky. The Big show back a few years ago was the WPO events at the Arnold and hell you were lucky to get your prize money from Kidder. He still owes lots of back prize money that folks will never see. I took 2nd place at the Arnold Bench Bash in 2007 and made 600 bucks. The term "Professional" is VERY LOOSELY thrown around. I cant name one top pro in full power or bench that does not work a 9 to 5 job.
BUT alot of guys do have full supplement deals and get all there supps and most opf there travel expenses paid. Chris from AtLarge treated me very very well helping with alot of my expenses and covered all my supps for the 3 yrs I was at thetop of the sport. Just no money padding the pockets to make a living off it.
-
Not sure how much they make, but it's clearly not enough to buy a piece of cardio equipment... :-\

I bet they make millions of dollars

if anything, Pro powerlifters should have make enough money for a living with the sport. shit, it is more qualified to be a sport than being on stage flexing from left to right.

bearly enough to pay for the gear necessary to be competetive.

It all about arses in the seats. Basketball, Baseball & Football draw a crowd; therefore, the players make money.
BJJ would certainly qualify as a sport, but this is the biggest event in the states and look at the stands:
